Is my Audi A3 EGR valve fault linked to the emissions scandal?

I've got an 2009 Audi A3 1.6 TDI that's been recalled for the Volkswagen emissions scandal. It went on a diagnostic machine, coming up with that problem and the EGR valve. Could the Volkswagen emissions scandal have anything to do with the EGR valve fault?

To my mind, the colossal number of expensive EGR failures of the EA189 1.6 TDI engine are too much of a coincidence not to be connected with the engine mismanagement system that is designed to hide a fundamental fault. Join one of the class actions.
