Which manual car with a large boot to replace my MG ZR?

I have driven my MG ZR for the past eight years and have enjoyed it but would like to pass it on to my grandsons. Can you give me some advice on a suitable replacement? Must be reliable with a decent size boot for golf clubs. Not an automatic. I only travel on average 60 miles a week local trips with the occasional motorway journey to visit my family. My budget is £8000 to £10,000. Also do you think Car Supermarkets are a good idea or would I be wiser to go to a local dealer?

At the moment the used car in this class and price range that I rate the most is a previous model Honda Civic 1.8i ES or SE. They are cavernously commodious, decent to drive, and I've seen 45mpg from one on a long run (I've seen 48mpg from the latest Civic 1.8i). Going to local dealers keeps them in business in your area, which can be very useful if anything goes wrong.
