Does my Qashqai have a fuel consumption problem?

I recently bought a Nissan Qashqai 1.5dCi and have been disappointed with the average fuel consumption of around 35mpg, and with the power and smoothness of the engine. I have been told by one friend that I should use premium diesel, but another said to use a fuel additive such as Miller Ecomax. Can you tell me if it makes sense to use either method?

I'm currently getting 67.5mpg from a BMW 320d on Shell Fuelsave without any additives. The measured fuel economy average for a Qashqai 1.5dCi is 48.1mpg, so there must be something wrong with your car. See: www.honestjohn.co.uk/RealMpg/Results?manufacturer=...n
