We'd recommend a Kia Picanto. The latest model arrived in 2017 and represents excellent value for money on the used market, with a reliable automatic gearbox and efficient 1.0-litre petrol engine. It's easy to drive and should be very cheap to run. The Hyundai i10 is well worth a look, too.
