Can I tax a car without a new keeper slip?

Is it possible to tax a vehicle bought privately without a new keeper slip as the whole V5C is still being updated at DVLA?

No, I wouldn't recommend buying a car without the V5C logbook under any circumstances, as the car will be registered to someone else and this will cause complications with the insurance. You will also not be able to tax the car, which means it will be illegal to drive it until the V5C has been processed.
