  • Insurance claims 12 Aug 2008 (Forum)
There is no driving offence issue under process with this, merely the personal injury claim and what we consider to be an unwarranted blemish against my son?s driving record
  • Lipstick on your collar, asphaltines in your tank. 2 Jul 2008 (Forum)
OK, maybe you`re wanting to write `change the filter` and so on.. but you can`t be let off that easily...;) Maybe the answer is only the presenting question. If belief is the price of sentience, what`s going on in the fuel system and do you really want to intervene? ;)
  • Cars still being flogged to death, no saving then? 23 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Cars surging past on full turbo boost, then braking heavily at the next roundabout. Made me wonder, where`s the evidence of concern for saving money? Everyone was really flooring it on the ring road this AM. (As always) You could almost hear the pedals being thwacked to the floor as they surged alongside turbo`s hissing, braking, surging and then dropping back at times due to lack of anticipation.
  • Alfa Romeo 156 (1998 - 2005) - 1999 2.0 TS - ABS problem. 21 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I have tried to measure the output from each sensor, but they only give a reading of 0.1 to 0.3 mV at speeds between 10 and 30 mph, and the readings are inconsistent. This applies to both rears and the n/s front (I haven't tried to measure the o/s front). The only possible fault I can see is that one of the new rear sensors isn't quite fitted flush with the face of the hub casting. It looks like there could have been some dirt there when it was fitted, and I can get a 0.015" feeler in between it and the hub casting.
  • Good insurance deal 23 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I turned it down as vouchers have a funny habit of ending up in somebody else's pocket. Goodness knows how I am going to be able to sneak the M&S vouchers and buy wine with it, there could well be a pressing and as yet undiscovered need for more towels or worse... MGs

  • Fast forward how many years? 8 Dec 2006 (Forum)
t be: - Living in rural areas, unless there is decent public transport or they are allowed personal mobility at an affordable price - Travelling/driving much for leisure/pleasure purposes - Enjoying so much wealth, because the UK has become expensive and uncompetitive, and the economy has slowed ? certainly in relation to other countries, most of which have not taken such draconian steps. It?s got this way through legislation by successive governments. Is this the way to save the planet, or is it Hell? Maybe it?s both. How much will (people let) happen and by when?
  • Chipsaway 26 Jul 2006 (Forum)
The wife?s car had picked up 3 mega chips in the front bumper (her) plus a scrape about 6 inches by 2 (me). The chips were amazing. They appeared to have gone clean through a top skin of plastic and into some black, coarser plastic beneath.
  • Highways Traffic Officers - Bad Idea? 18 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I appreciate it is dangerous to be on the hard shoulder, but is the Highways Agency answer to this ?slow down traffic so it?s at a standstill. Nothing will hit the broken down car then?? Rant over?
  • Peugeot 307 "Comm 2000" aka indicator 22 Jan 2006 (Forum)
m going for that one, but they biggest worry and question is will it need programming to the car, Peugeot say yes, and it will cost £96, I said that?s a bit steep isn?t it, he said its one hour labour charge, yet it will probably take 5 mins, Does anyone know if this is true and if so where can I get it done cheaper, or can I do it myself? • Mercedes W140 S-Class back a 6th time 9 Nov 2005 (Forum)
I'll try to keep it short ladies and gentlemen. 11 months after a non-fault accident, my Mercedes-approved body shop has failed to get the car in good...
  • Will it come to this? 7 Nov 2005 (Forum)
When I was a kid & went out with my Dad in his truck, we normally started around 3-30 to 4am & would most often than not have the roads to ourselves till at least 7am, this being the late 70's to late 80's. On the nightshift it seems to me that the rush hour is now starting at 3-30 to 4am so that people can get a head start to beat the queues. This is just the suits, never mind your milkie, postie & suchlike.

Do I spend 14-16k on: 1999-2000 Audi A8 4.2 Quattro, solid, goes like a rocket 2000 - 2001 Jaguar S-type, nicer inside (to me), bit more staid As new as possible Nissan Primera T-spec As new as possible Honda Accord Executive Wait til Lexus LS430 is in price bracket (about six months now) Some kind of Merc about which I know nothing but there seem to be a few S-class about at that money.
  • Kick a sport when it's down 2 Jul 2005 (Forum)
From ITV F1: This weekend?s French Grand Prix could be disrupted by protesters closing in on the Magny-Cours circuit and threatening to cause traffic chaos. A march led by regular activist Francois Schneider and his donkey Jujube is reported to be only a few miles from the circuit.
  • Help! Kerb weight VW Passat 26 May 2005 (Forum)
Getting to the point where do I stand under the consumer rights act if VW UK confirm the above as I stand to loose a packet if I need to change my car to a suitable vehicle. Yes you have probably guessed it?s a caravan 
  • Vauxhall Monterey Tyre Wear 21 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Folks, My 3.1 Monterey (rebadged Trooper) has just passed the MOT (aahhh...!), but with an advisory on the front tyre. It's down to 1.5mm on the inner edge of the O/S/F, but has 10+ across the rest. Enough to trap a small mammal, in fact. The outer edge of the N/S/F has some significant "rounding" as well, but not as bad as the inner edge of the other one. There is a small amount of play in the steering box, but this should not affect tyre wear, plus the MOT should have brought up any wear in anything else.
  • Cheap mpv 30 Dec 2004 (Forum)
A friend and I have just bought a s late '98 plate Alhambra 2.0, metallic green. It has 80k on the clock (probably clocked - but nowdays probably is the norm) 6 mths tax, mot only for (two months though). Not perfect condition - but drove well.

  • Police priorities 31 Oct 2003 (Forum)
She then phoned me. 45 mins later, the Police had not arrived {0.7 miles from police station to car park}, so I drove down in the othet car to see. A street away from my wife?s work, I saw a police car, the PC had got out and was booking a car parked on double yellow lines. I got to my wife?s work and survey the damage ? in the end cost about £350 to fix. Anyway ? soon the Police arrive ?
  • Old VW Polo intermittant power loss 24 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Other \'signs of age\' and general recent features have been: - The idle jet has become blocked a couple of times. Easily cleared by AA/mechanic. - The (2 month old) fuel filter put in at the car\'s last service is very dirty for such a new filter. - Developed a slight oil leak. (Typically a few isolated drops on the ground below the engine after a drive). - Developed a slight coolant leak.
