• Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1999 1.8 Manual gearbox service life ? 1 Oct 2008 (Forum)
  I own a UK Ford Focus which uses the IB5 manual transmission. The car is a 1999 T with 76000 miles on the clock. Can someone please tell me how many miles and/or years this type of gearbox generally lasts for. Additionally as the service guide that comes with these cars does not mention needing to change the manual gearbox oil, does this mean that most people don't bother to have this done and so just hope for the best ?

  Can someone please help me identify the 'ingoing' fuel line to the engine under the bonnet of a ford focus 1.6 TDCi? The 'in' and 'out' line are near identical and close together and I can't see any labelling to help me. So if you know which one is the 'in' line to the engine - perhaps you have picture or diagram I can look at - I'd really appreciate it.

  I would appreciate it if someone could answer this question I have. I have just had the rocker cover gasket replaced on my ford focus 1.8 petrol. Before I left the garage I looked underneath the bonnet and noticed that the technician had forgotten to connect the breather hose back onto the engine. What damage, if any, could occur by driving without this hose connected up and would it depend on how long you drove it for ?

  Does anyone own a Fiesta Ghia 1.6? If so, I'd appreciate your thoughts. I could buy a 2005 5-door model with 25k miles from a Ford dealer for some £5.5K. Would that be a good deal and how much discount could I ask? I've tried my local very large supermarket here in West London, but most of their vehicles have too much body damage, for the money they are asking.

  I have a Ford Mondeo TDDi 2.0L 2001 and I've done a very silly thing. When leaning across to fetch something from the glove compartment, the plastic handle/doorcatch (flimsy piecece of kit) snapped off in my hand leaving the compartment jammed shut!

  I have just realised that two of my brake lights are not working, the high one in the middle top of my rear window works fine but the left and right ones are not working when I brake but they work fine as lights when not braking so I assume the bulbs are OK. Is this a common problem with this Ford? and is it easily(cheaply) fixed and likely to be a warranty exclusion as wear and tear ? ( I have two months warranty left). Thanks any suggestions

  Hi I just bought a 03 Ford Fiesta Zetec 1.4 TDCI. Its has 43k on the clock and has a full history. Now the car doesnt sound that good on tickover, It sound very ticky and a diesel rattle. But also there is a smell of burnt exhaust gasses, The smell is like a cold started deisel smell, Even when the car is at normal temp.

  Hi, I have a mk5 Ford Fiesta 2000 w reg 1.25 zetec ghia which is only blowing hot air, even if i turn the heater control to cold. Also the air conditioning is not switching on. Could you please give me some tips. Also the passenger side central locking is not working for both front and rear doors.

  According to the Mondeo forums, Ford has just announced a software update for 2.0 TDCI MK4 Mondeos have a stalling / cutting out problem either on cold start or sometimes simply when depressing the clutch. Some owners have found that the engine cuts out at low rpm, on the approach to roundabouts etc.

  Hello all. I have just bought a ford focus sport 1.6. 06 plate. I have two questions well maybe three. Firstly does anyone know if it is a Zetec engine? I assume so. Secondly does it have sports suspension. I asked the guy but he gave me a very generic answer.

  I have the chance to buy my aunties Ford Focus from Motability. It is a 2005 (05) 1.6 LX 5 door in Metallic grey. Its done 38K with FFSH and one owner. Cosmetically it has a light crease in the door and a ding in the back bumper. 1.What is its market value?

  The alarm goes off sometimes when it shouldn't - as it wakes the neighbours he is having to leave it unlocked (bad idea) Local Ford garage wants to charge £100 just to look at it - no guarantee of fixing it. I thought maybe we could just disconnect the alarm so he could at least lock it, but Hayes manual eminently unhelpful. Any ideas, anyone?

  But if you try and drive it misfires under load .Whan I first got it it misfired on tick over so I changed the usual plugs, leads and the coil pack, which cured the misfire on tick over but not on initial throttle openings or under load. The vehicle has been back to Ford but they cannot find anything wrong on there diagnostic machine.

  Hello there, can anyone help me? I recently bought a ford focus 1.6 LX T Reg, and it has a 6000 cd RDS radio installed (the one with the rocker switch volume control). This is not working with the steering column radio controls, I have been told that it can, but the original radio which was installed was a 5000 radio cassette type.

  Hi all, I have just fitted an RDS 7000 in place of my old 5000, everything is hooked up ok (speakers, cd changer) using the standard connectors, but the steering wheel control stalk has a smaller socket on the rds 7000. does anyone know where i could get a connector to change it from the old long one to the newer small one? looked on fleabay and cant find anything, would ford sell it do you think? cheers in advance

  now i have physically taken out the front pads and checked them..they are almost new..altho they are not original fords. and....they done have any sensor wires on them so they arnt registering any sort of fault cuase theres no wire!!!! so do they rears have any sensors??? if not.what is causing the light to come on then back off then back on. etc etc -- www.storme.co.uk

  Anyway, interesting story and I do wonder what happens in these cases where a part fails-what does Ford have to do? Anything? Take the car back and strip it down? If it is a recall issue they would have to act soon. Ultimately it could have been a one-off however.

  I bought a Ford Focus TDCi Ghia estate 02 plate via an auction trader. It had a "4000 RDS" radio cassette stereo system, with steering column controls. The trader kindly replaced this with a "6000 CD RDS E-ON" radio CD player, but said he could NOT connect this to the steering column controls.

  Hi there, i have a ford galaxy 2.0 glx auto with a problem with the gear selector cable which means it is constantly in and out of the garage . the cable keeps snapping therefore leaving me unable to start the vehicle . i keep taking it back into the garage where they fit another one and a few weeks later the same happens , it is in the garage now . the time before the garage changed my stabalising bar thinking that was the problem , that the engine was moving (pulling ) the cable . any ideas . thanks.
