  • Nissan Skyline GT-R (1989 - 2002) - Failed puncture repair 19 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I did drive off quite soon after the repair was done so is it possible the glue just didn't cure properly and a second go would be successful? The tyres on it are about 3 years old max. I think there is about 5mm of tread at least on each tyre so there is at least 12 months life in them. My head says buy 4 new tyres but my wallet is saying no way :-) teabelly
  • Citroen C4 (2004 - ) - ownership experience ? 22 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Good morning I will shortly be getting my Fabia VrS back from the repairers following theft damage. and I will be wanting to trade it in to get rid of the associations of the theft. I've been looking round at various options and the two stand-out choices seem to be either a C-max or a Citroen C4. The C4 in particular because it looks a bit interesting, has a lovely interior (to my tastes anyway !) and would appear to be a relatively cheap and easy car to own. It is also fairly unobtrusive - mind you, I though that about the VrS as well....
  • Speed limiters to Company Cars 19 Sep 2007 (Forum)
So question - how many years before we are all driving 3 cylinder 1 litre diesel cars in this country just to be able to afford to stay on the road - whilst of course it will make minimal impact as housing and industry (not to mention rest of the world continuing to drive what they want) continue to grow and produce greater quantities of CO2. I reckon about 7 years max.
  • MOT diesel Opacity test 17 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I am not sure if the test has changed though this time it was an Opacity test measuring the transmission of light through the exhaust emissions, I understand that the car can go through up to six test cycles to be within the max 3.00, mine came out at 1.46 first time so one application of full throttle for a second or so was all it required. Has the test changed or do different test centres use different methods re diesel emissions?
  • Can you stress a diesel engine? 13 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I always assumed that it wasn't ideal to redline a petrol car all the time because it would eventually reduce the life of the engine and other parts. When we talk diesel, their engines produce max power with little effort, its not like you thrash it to death for it to respond. They can go uphill just as fast in 5th gear without troubles - so how do you / can you stress a diesel car/engine by driving it badly or is it just as solid at any engine speed.
  • Punto 60S 1998 Temperature Help!!!! 30 Mar 2007 (Forum)
You can hear the fan kicking in but that doesn't seem to make it go off - it's not losing water as its water level is just under max - I keep checking it! It's worrying me to death - esp after i've just had a new head gasket / cam belt and clutch to the tune of £450 - I don't want it to pack in again. Any ideas anyone???
  • fiat cinquecento 2 Feb 2007 (Forum)

  • Rover 400 1.6 Electrical Fault Mystery 16 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Recently bought a 98 Rover 400 1.6l for a run around but its beggining to drive me nuts. Heater control worked only at max (common prob 4 these) so thought to check the heating fan resistor which I discovered had been removed at some point. Am still to buy the resistor but now the electricals are playing tricks on me. Keeps blowing Fuse # 13 (Circuit : Engine cooling fan, wing mirrors and of cause, Internal Heating) Have looked everywhere for a short circuit but cant figure it out.
  • Micro Vans 30 Jan 2006 (Forum)
It will be used very much as a second vehicle to help with some house referb & to take his dogs to shows (no more than 50 miles) Any info on these vans would be good only wants to spend 1200 quid max. I seem to remember that the Suzuki engine is only good for about 60k? I know very little about the Daihatsu so anything on them would be good I've tried to get him to look at Citroen C15 as these seem cheap but he has a width restriction by the side of his garage.

  • Nissan Almera 28 Nov 2005 (Forum)
I am ashamed to say, but I had to resort to using the front fog lights for the night driving as they lit up the roads brilliantly. (I did turn the headlight adjustment button to the max but even this didn't help) Just after others opinions on this.
  • Mercedes C Class dilemma 29 Aug 2005 (Forum)
The other is a 97P 180 Elegance with 79k and FMBSH. The car will be used as a second vehicle to be kept for 3 years minimum doing max 5k pa - so I'm not concerned with petrol costs. However am I looking at potentially big bills on the 280? I'm tempted by the 280 but my head says the 180 (with none of the goodies) Anyone got any views on this?
  • Buying used Jaguar XJS 28 Jun 2004 (Forum)
People I have talked to about this fall into 2 distinct camps (great idea/crazy idea) - what do you guys think? Car would be used for max 4,000 miles a year. Stoozguy
  • Oil Consumption on motorbike 26 Feb 2004 (Forum)
In town, it uses none whilst on longer 70 miles + journeys of higher speeds (50-60mph) it can use a little oil (perhaps less than a quarter on the small dip stick between the low and max marks). The bike has been serviced from new with oil changes every 1000-2000 miles. It only has 17000 miles on the clock. I did once overfill the oil a little and rode for 100 miles after which I drained it.
  • Primera heating problems 26 Nov 2003 (Forum)
He has a problem with heating. To get any noticable heat in the car he has to not only stick the heater control to max, he also has to put the fan on full. Without this, there is barely any warmth in the air coming through the vents. The fan works correctly so I suspect it is either a blocked feed to the heater matrix, a blocked matrix or the control rod to the matrix has come adrift.
  • Megane Scenic 1.9 Dti oil level question 8 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Mine started at 6 blobs showing when I first got the car but now shows anything between 1 and 5 blobs (after a few hundred miles). Checking the oil with the dipstick shows it near to the max mark (certainly over 3/4). If the internal display is oil level, why would it go as low as 1 blob? Should I be worried?? BTW The garage changed the oil before I collected the car and seem to have used a no-name filter.
  • Petrol in Diesel URGENT answer reqd pse 2 Nov 2002 (Forum)
My initial advice was not to use further, siphon out as much as possible and top up with clean diesel before further driving, (this is difficult because he is 10 miles from civilisation. Any better informed comments please. What is max % petrol that can temparily tolerated. Car is 1998 306 diesel estate (Not sure if Turbo?). (for David W, yes it is the same 306 with the exploding airbag. Not yet settled by P, but I will tell you the final outcome).
  • Cam Belt renewal - 2001MY Golf TDi 115PS 19 Oct 2002 (Forum)
The issue is that there is just not enough clearance to withdraw the bracket. It fouls against the inner wing. I have tried raising the engine to max height possible (EGR throttle spindle arm fouls against underside of scuttle). Lowering the engine seems to be no use either. I am posting this in the hope I have missed something, and that there is someone who has done this job before.
  • Are winter tyres mandatory in France? 27 Sep 2021 (Ask HJ)
I understand a new French Law requires Winter Tyres after 1 November 2021. Does this requirement include all-season tyres?
  • What tyres should I replace my 18-inch run flats for a smoother ride? 11 May 2017 (Ask HJ)
I must replace the 18-inch run flats on the Mini Countryman Cooper S with something sensible before the car shakes itself to bits crashing around our roads....
