  • Socially Unacceptable Behaviour 28 Apr 2005 (Forum)
All over the country there are people who are considerably more morally outraged than yow when they see things that, a few years ago, were quite ok to do The question is what?s next? Is it 500 watt bass bins audible from a mile away? Cars more than 5 years old which pollute more? 4x4s? Motorbikes? The middle lane owners club? What would you prefer?

  • Where's the oil going??!!! (Fiesta) 1 Feb 2005 (Forum)
1998/9 S-plate Fiesta, 1.3 petrol OHV engine, belongs to SWMBO. Has lost nearly a litre of oil in the last month. It's not leaking from the drain plug, the filter, the head or the rocker box. There's no blue smoke from the exhaust that I can make out.
  • Pug 306 Fog Lamp 25 Jan 2005 (Forum)

  • New Land Rover Discovery 7 Dec 2004 (Forum)
What an awful looking car. Without a word of a lie, the side profile resembles the "Popemobile" that was used in the 80's when he was in Great Britain. The back end looks like it has been added on to the chassis, similar to a Truckman Top being placed on a pick-up. SWMBO thought that it looked like one of the disguised cars you see in Auto Express with big square taped edges to hide the actual shape of the car.
  • Rust Buckets 4 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I have had a number of cars that have rusted in my time but far and away the worst was a Fiat 128 Sport in the 70's - Great Fun Car but the body got more like swiss cheese every day ... It occurred to me that in these days of galvanised body shells and anti corrosion warranties perhaps the tin worm problem isn't as bad as it used to be.

  • Corsa 1998 cambelt failure 18 Sep 2004 (Forum)

I had to look at motor tonight. severe tapping of camshaft/tappets.valve`s touching pistons.wasnt certain at the time what it was. further look says cambelt split in several places causing cam timing to be well out.Not certain about this motor. But according to vx and independant. cambelt should last 40k. is this well out or correct. if correct may be one off.though I doubt it as its happened before. to friends cars. -- Was mech1
  • Delaying tactics? 17 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Another thread in Technical raised a question in my mind (always a dangerous thing): Is there anything to deter a dealer from failing to resolve (either deliberately or by ineptitude) a serious fault until the warranty is expired and the repair(s) become chargeable to the customer? In such a case does the owner have any realistic legal redress? Surely, if a car has been suffering the same problems for some time and the dealer has failed to resolve them within the warranty period, why should not the warranty be automatically extended to cover any associated repairs undertaken until the fault is found/fixed?
  • Best Synthetic Oil for my Honda Accord. 16 Sep 2004 (Forum)
I\'ve looked at all of the labels on the various oils, but none mention whether they are synthetic or not. Magnatec - just found out above that it\'s not synthetic - mentions synthetic engineering on the label, so I\'m a bit confused.
  • Channel island cars UK or Imports?? 5 Sep 2004 (Forum)
We're trying to trade in our Leon TDi S that started life as a Jersey hire car, then the dealer who imported it had it in their name so we're the 2nd UK owner. SEAT UK say its a UK car and it has the standard UK warranty and AA cover (we have a letter confirming the warranty cover but not the UK car bit), but our local Vauxhall dealer say its an import and value it as such (ie £1250 under the online Network Q thingy from Glass' guide) Who is right?
  • Idle problem with Rover 114 auto 23 Aug 2004 (Forum)
The problem is with the idle speed: it either ticks over too quickly, or not at all. I have changed the temp sensor to the ECU, but the fault\'s still there. Any one out there got any suggestions as to what it could be? All ideas are gratefully received. Many thanks Clown Doctor.
  • MG-ROVER - How can it be saved ?Vol 2 21 Aug 2004 (Forum)
f=2&t=24134 started by Carl_a Why? Why? Still, he started it and you lot have now gone on for over 200 replies, so here\'s vol 2. ND I have never considered owning a Rover. I always thought they were old mens cars. They kept the wrong name. They should have stuck with Triumph. The only Rover I ever fancied was the SD1 V8.
  • Nissan QX 3 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Reading HJ's latest auction report (The day?s best buy was probably the 93k mile 95N Nissan QX 2.0 chain-cam V6 in the photo. No auto, no leather, no air, but a big, solid, ultra-reliable minicab for £650.) made me wonder why this famously reliable car is soooooo unpopular.
  • Car for student 7 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Such vehicles do not provide the right image. She may eventually see sense when confronted with the running costs of older Clio's, 206's etc. but I would be grateful for any other suggestions. Are there any cars at this price that combine image and economy?
  • Golf2 doesnt like wet weather 24 Jun 2004 (Forum)
My Golf Mk2,Driver 1.6,Greg-is getting harder to start from cold in wet weather. It splutters, backfires, and sometimes the battery go`s flat from the turning over.Ive tried spraying wd4o on the leads, coil and distributor, which sometimes makes a difference, but I usually have to hold the starter on with throttle right down;when it eventually starts,it splutters for a few miles before running smoothly. It starts and runs fine in dry weather,so,any ideas what the problem is?
  • Imobilisers - Can the common car thief.. 29 May 2004 (Forum)
Since around 1998 it has been mandatory to fit immobilisers in all new cars sold in the uk. Can these be easily be driven away without the real car keys?? Or is this for the big time boy\'s and those that steal car keys from the ownners homes/bags/pockets? Thanks
  • Stripped spark plug threads.Cavalier Mk3 8 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Cavalier 3. Runs ok but I think one of the spark plug threads is crossed or stripped (not by me!), it\'s fairly tight but feels as if it\'d turn forever. I\'ve read an archive on helicoiling but I think that thread-locking cement might do the trick. So the question is: Which cement? The car accessory shops will sell you anything, I would have thought that it would be critical to use the right one given the temperature it\'ll be exposed to.
  • Advertising used cars 5 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Bought my first car last week, a 2002 Pug 206 1.1 LX. I thought it would be a good seller, but haven?t received a single call yet! It?s only advertised on the Auto Trader website at the moment, so I was after your thoughts on where else would be most suitable to advertise. Also, thoughts on price would be appreciated, perhaps I?m miles off!
