  • IAM warns of council cutbacks over winter 31 Oct 2011 (News)
Drive so that you don’t rely on your brakes to be able to stop – on an icy surface they simply may not do that for you, but keep moving as much as possible, even if it is only at walking pace. On a downhill slope get your speed low before you start the descent, and do not let it build up – it is much easier to keep it low than to try and slow down once things get slippery.
  • Fascinating Entry at Historics Brooklands Auction 22nd October 14 Oct 2011 (News)
An utterly gorgeous 1973 Alfa Romeo GT 1300 Junior Zagato, with its engine replaced by the gutsy 1750, rebuilt by Alfaholics to develop 183bhp and create a drive to die for. Estimate £10,000 - £15,000 1949 Albion Victor 26 seat coach by Harrington. You’ll need a big garage for this one, but, of course, it could earn its keep working in films and TV dramas.

  • Enhanced Spec Nissans From £7,995 16 Apr 2008 (News)
In terms of insurance, all models get a low, group 2 rating. Nissan’s Note offers all the agility and easy driving qualities of a B-segment hatchback, and all the comfort and equipment of a C segment car. Now the Note Visia+ special edition adds manual air conditioning with a pollen filter and the novel Flexi-Board system.
  • Best Movie Car Action Ever 1 Jun 2003 (News)
Lelouch simply mounted the camera on the front of the car and took us on an astonishing, death-defying drive through the streets of a beautifully filmed 70s Paris with a brutal soundtrack courtesy of the engine, exhaust and tyres. Richard Symons, a documentary film maker (The Cobra Ferrari Wars) with more than a passing interest in fast cars, came to hear of it by chance and managed to acquire a very poor 2nd generation VHS copy.
  • New Geodesy Picks Up Mobile Speed Scameras 23 Jul 2002 (News)
We now expect demand to grow even further as motorists and motorcyclists seek maximum protection. "Apart from the obvious benefit of protecting driving licences, this is an important step in road safety terms, for independent research has clearly shown that those who use devices to identify the location of speed cameras are much less likely to have accidents than those who do not use them."
  • Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 11-4-2015 11 Apr 2015 (News)
They advise just carrying on driving it until it does fail since the cost of having a new timing belt would be more than the car is worth. At my age now, a smaller car would be fine since I now drive only locally with a long drive to Kent perhaps once a year.
  • A Grand Monday: Mercedes-Benz 280TE 3 Jun 2019 (News)
For build quality it could out-Rolls a Rolls-Royce and for prestige it could outmanoeuvre pretty much anything. It was a car with no social class - sturdy, beautifully made and surprisingly agile to drive given its bulk.  Today, the W124 wagon has a decent collector following, which makes this example an especially appealing proposition at just £950 .  The vendor freely admits that it needs a bit of cosmetic attention, mostly to the front wings.
  • A Grand Monday: Jaguar XJ40 3.6 Sovereign 17 Dec 2018 (News)
It's all there and seemingly very solid, albeit with the usual boot lid rust. It's not a car you can jump in and drive - it's been stored in a garage for 15 years and has no online MoT history to back that up, but hopefully dry storage won't have caused it too much hardship. Early XJ40s are rare cars these days - and this is one that looks like it'll make a terrific project.
  • A Grand Monday: Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 LS 8 Oct 2018 (News)
Marketed as a car that made supermodels jealous, the little Vauxhall certainly looked the part, even if some of its rivals were a bit sharper to drive. Buried in the classifieds this week is  a £595 example that definitely needs to find an enthusiast  to love and cherish it.  It’s not perfect – the black underseal on both sills needs thorough investigation to see what nasties it might be hiding – but it’s an astonishing car thanks to its full main dealer service history, with its last visit to a Vauxhall main agent as recently as March 2018.
  • A Grand Monday: Renault 19 Cabriolet 17 Sep 2018 (News)
Let's get one thing from clear from the outset - while this looks like a bright and usable car, it's not one you can jump in and drive straight away. It is, however, an rare example of a rapidly disappearing modern classic. So rare, in fact, that the Renault Owners' Club believes there are fewer than ten examples of this particular model left.
  • Pair of Lancias head to auction 27 Apr 2018 (News)

  • Diesel car sales plummet, while petrol and hybrids are on the up 7 Sep 2017 (News)
The drop in sales has been down to ambiguity over the future of diesel cars, with buyers fearing possible tax increases and charges for driving in cities. In fact, year-to-date, more alternatively-fuelled vehicles have been registered (71,497) than in the whole of 2016 (53,891) -  accounting for a 5.2 per cent share of the market.
  • Exhibition to mark 50 years of the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale 5 Sep 2017 (News)
And now the Italian car maker is celebrating the 50 th birthday of its legendary 33 Stradale. But don’t get any ideas about putting one on the drive way. The car, which is known for its blend of technology and racing mechanics, was limited to a production run of only a handful. Today, prices for one sit around the £2m mark. Designed by Franco Scaglione, the 33 Stradale was first seen on 31 August 1967 - on the eve of the Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix at the Monza.

Top Ten: Cars killed by the scrappage scheme However, Government plans for a diesel scrappage scheme are still ongoing – with a further review promised later in the year. The drive to get polluting diesel cars off the road is being driven by increasing concerns about the UK’s poor air quality. • Racing legend Jack Sears’ car collection for sale 6 Jul 2017 (News)
Even single-seaters formed part of his extensive racing repertoire, with a third place finish in a Formula 2 Cooper at Crystal Palace in 1960.  Sears then progressed to the international stage with drives at Le Mans 24 Hours in a Works Austin Healey 3000, a class win in a Ferrari 330LMB at La Sarthe and a GT class win in a Daytona Coupé while contracted as a Shelby American team driver. Sears was the first to claim the BTCC title (then known as the British Saloon Car Championship) in 1958, and won again in 1963 after swapping his Riley 1.5s for the seven-litre 1963 Ford Galaxie 500, one of the cars being offered by Bonhams and a firm favourite of Jack’s throughout his racing career.  Click here to see a gallery of the Sears collection
