  • 18 y/o Insurance 7 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I have a Volkswagen Golf 1.6 Match 16v and will have 2 years no claims on 30th January, also my 19th birthday, when my policy expires. Can anyone recommend any Insurance Companies that give good quotes to young drivers? My best quote so far is £909. Cheers

There is a sign reading barrier height 5' 9". Nobody notices signs, and the driver didn't. Another resounding clatter and luggage scattered all over the entrance.
  • White van man and unbelted kids 8 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I know the subject has been touched on before but I was this evening, followed by a Transit with the following occupants: Driver, Mum with you child on lap, young child on middle seat with younger child on lap. You guessed it, NO seat belts in use by any of them. The same people who are going to read, digests and act on the latest how to defend against terror book instructions.
  • One for the insurance wizzos 26 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I was rear-ended in a queue of traffic in my company car yesterday by a young lad in an old Jag. Not my fault, reported it to our accident management folks so it will all get sorted out OK. But, I have two other insurance policies in my name, one for my son's car with me as the policyholder & him as the main driver and the other a classic car policy on the Commer.
  • Drivers or car operators - Discuss 19 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Does anyone agree with me that manufacturers have reduced most of us from being drivers to being car operators. Agreed that some innvoation is in the interests of improving safety for the less experienced motorist, but it seems to have detracted greatly from the "skill" required to drive.
  • ANY - No entry except for authorised vehicles 15 Aug 2023 (Forum)
Bank of mum and dad have told him pay yourself. He is an apprentice brickie so when not in college earns a fair bit. Chastened young man. Look on the bright side, Not speeding or traffic light cameras. And have seen him driving, sometimes even following and a pretty good driver for a newly passsed one.
  • Volkswagen Golf 2.0 GT TDI 2005! - Selling an old Golf in COVID when shielding 24 Oct 2020 (Forum)

Maybe some young buck would want to customise it? Just a shame to throw it away
  • A303 Somerset 40 mile diversion for 14 weeks in 09 19 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Car occupiers tend to be young with well used vehicle. Damage visibility depends on paintwork and you would notice it more on your car than others! Only protection is a wide sidestrip which would look untidy.
  • Top 10 lethal roads 9 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Er.....because there are more big cities in the North with weekend bikers who like to go for a blast on the twisties and more young drivers from urban centres out for a run? This lot meeting each other and other slower moving road users like lorries and caravans is a more frequent occurence than in the South. It's not difficult is it?

  • Raising driving age to 18? 7 Jan 2007 (Forum)
While they are about it surely it would be sensible to raise the age limit for driving a car to 18. It could be argued that this will also save lives as young drivers are more likely to have an accident. Being able to drive is like a badge of honour and would compliment being able to buy alcohol, cigarettes and vote, making coming of age a real change.
  • Scooter Deathwish 17 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Having said this morning that I was oblivious to the usual stupidities of drivers not being in control I witnessed this afternoon four young scooter riders - three learners and a fully qualified ( or not showing L plate) riding two abreast at 30 mph paying no attention to the road but laughng and joking with each other.
  • Eyesight Dilemma 28 Jun 2004 (Forum)
One can only question how many other motorists are driving around with similarly impaired vision and why compulsory eye inspections are not introduced for older drivers. I feel so concerned that I ought to report this person before a young child is possibly killed, but am reluctant to shop anybody for fear of reprisals.
  • thought I'd seen it all! 11 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Despite hearing about such things quite a bit this morning was the first time I've seen a female driver putting on make-up whilst driving. Where did this happen? On the main road passing our local infant/junior school? Yep, a mum was driving along with two hands on her make-up, eyes in the mirror concentrating on her blusher and, to make matters even worse, her young daughter rattling around unrestrained in the back no doubt admiring her mum's dexterity!
  • Minor prang - insurance procedure please 2 Sep 2008 (Forum)
My advice to her was to then: (1) Write to the other driver (recorded delivery), politely blame him for the accident, tell him she wasn't yet making an insurance claim but reserving her position. She would then say she is getting an estimate or two and forwarding them to this other driver in due course and expecting his / his insurer's payment (2) Get the tracking / suspension checked to ensure that it's not damaged as this could cost a lot of money to fix and might then lead her to making a claim (fully comp insurance).
  • N/A - Hit and Run 14 Oct 2019 (Forum)
I have phone numbers for these people, and the video even captures them stopping to see if I'm okay. minutes after the collision I was straight on the phone to the police and following that I reported the event to my insurance. I did not claim for the damage, I instead chose to get it fixed myself as I am a young driver and my insurance is already expensive as it is.    Getting to the point, I was originally wanting the police to at least speak to the driver (for details) but I fully understand its 'more of an insurance matter' as I was told by an officer.
  • Hit a wing mirror 2 May 2013 (Forum)
I am just worried she might have noted my number plate down and made a claim for something. I am a new young driver so I don't want to go through insurance as it's expensive as it is and if there is any damage it would be light so I would be able to pay for it. Whats the liklihood she will made a claim? At the time of the incident she wasn't p'eed off at all and seemed really nice about it.
  • My turn for an accident. 17 Mar 2010 (Forum)
At least he was insured - young lad paying over £2k a year for his 10 year old Polo! I'll see how good LV really are now.
  • Courtesy or nuisance 4 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I gave a driver (gender unseen) a nervous breakdown on Friday last. As I approached a three junction traffic roundabout I saw a very hesitant young learner trapped there. The traffic was building up behind him quite badly.
  • What is it with motorcyclists? 23 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Am I the only driver who considers most motorcyclists bad mannered and bad drivers? I live in Bournemouth and there seems to be an increasing number of motorcyclists who:- - While overtaking a slow moving queue of traffic, will push into the queue willy nilly despite no space available.
