  • Brake lights keep blowing - Fiesta 11 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I've had to change my rear brake lights 3 times in the past 200 miles, every single other bulb works fine as does every other electrical item. The blown bulbs look blackas if 20v as just gone through them. What could be causing this problem?
  • Peugeot 307 Brakes Squeal Like A Sailor 30 Jan 2007 (Forum)
You know when an important sailor goes on board a ship and they blow that funny little whistle?...thats what my newly purchased wifes Pug 307 sounds like when I dab the brakes... Should I just go Kwik-Fit a new set of pads or is there an alternative? Just bought the car and its done 100,000 miles....should I entrust to Halfords to do a cam change?...can they test/look at it to see if it needs doing?...
  • Stationary with foot on the brake pedal 20 Oct 2006 (Forum)
In a similar vein to the lack of indication by selfish drivers, I am astonished by the amount of drivers that sit with their foot on the brake pedal when stationary at traffic lights, level crossings etc, usually dazzling the person behind if their car has LED type high level lights. I used to think it was confined to drivers of automatic cars but it's too widespread nowadays.
  • brake fluid life! Honda Civic 16 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Just been ringing around a few Honda dealers to find out how much a 37000 mile service is for my CIVIC TYPE-R, and very surprised to hear that this will be the first time that the brake fluid will be changed. Correct me if i'm wrong, but i understand that it should be changed no later than every 24 months(car is 30 months old). Last service was 6 months ago. No wonder the pedal is nearing the floor!
  • Brake pads - Xsara 25 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Just had my Xsara MOT'd and an advisory was that the front brake pads were wearing thin. I trust the garage and it makes sense, as they haven't been changed for at least two years. The garage recommended I have them done within the next 2000 miles - I suggested waiting until they start screeching but mechanic said that means they're knackering the disc. 1) Is this true?
  • Mondeo - braking problem 31 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I've got a 2001 MK3 Mondeo 1.8 Zetec that has recently scared me silly! 3 times now, when I've pressed the brake pedal, it hits the floor before the ABS kicks in and I finally start to slow down. Every other time it is fine. 2 of the times were within 200 yards of my home, but the third one was about 10 minuted into my daily commute.
  • Rear brakes sticking on X Reg Corsa 30 Nov 2004 (Forum)
If I park my car and leave it for any more than a few hours, the rear brakes seem to lock on. As a result when I get in and attempt to move the car it wont budge and takes a great deal of popping it into first & reverse gear and putting my foot down to get it to move again - yes I do release the handbrake first.
  • 'Crunching' brakes 19 May 2003 (Forum)
Normally my brakes seem fine but on occasion and when going slowly (approaching junctions etc) I can feel and hear a 'crunching' coming from the front wheels. In addition to this when driving along I can hear a 'rubbing' sound which slows down and speeds up with the speed of the car.
  • Any AFAIK (Yamaha RZR in this case) - New Trick for Brake Piston Removal 26 Apr 2024 (Forum)
New to me anyway. Usually I just use the brake pedal, not available in this case. Plug the banjo bolt with the end of a chopstick and PTFE tape. Fill the caliper with 75% ethanol and seal with above plugged bolt Drop caliper in a pan of boiling water.
  • BMW X5 (2016) - Mileage indicator for brake pads (front) replaceme 15 Feb 2023 (Forum)
Hello, just wondering if you can clarify on the following.  My X5 (2016) had had 3100 miles until front brake pads replacement indicated on the dashboard for quite some time. Brought it for a regular servicing at BMW where front brake pads were confirmed to be at 7 mm.  Immediately after I collected my car the same day, the reading changed to 1200 miles till replacement (ie minus almost 2K).
  • Does your car have adaptive cruise/brake assist? 23 Jun 2022 (Forum)
So as this may turn out to be a common event, it may be worth forum members (with adaptive cruise/brake assist) giving extra consideration to where they park. If in a car park for instance, parking with the nose as close as possible to a wall.
  • Hyundai i30 - Servicing costs 2 Jul 2021 (Forum)
Had my 2019 Hyundai i30 serviced today by main dealer- 2nd year 'major' service. Included a 'clutch/brake'  fluid' change. For previous cars I've owned, I've always been asked if iI wanted a brake fluid change and, if I declined, the price quoted  over the phone, was suddenly reduced from £39.99 to £19.99.
  • Seat Ibiza - Rear Brake Discs Faulty? 13 Jul 2020 (Forum)
Hi there, hoping someone can help! New 20 plate SEAT Ibiza done about 800miles. I’ve noticed both rear brake discs have some gouges in and find it odd for the age of the car and barely driving over any stoney paths that a stone/dirt could hit both rear brakes but both front discs are immaculate. I haven’t heard any noises during my time in the car.
  • Honda Jazz - Extra noise when brake or drove pass bumper 6 Feb 2020 (Forum)
    1) What is the root cause of the problem? Is it due to the nearside rear tyre brake? Or Is it due to absorber at the rear side? Do I need to bring my car to garage for immediate attention? 2) If I need to bring my car to garage, how do I describe my problem to them? Is there a specific term to describe the problem?
  • BMW 320d - Seized brake calliper 13 Mar 2014 (Forum)
The n/s front brake calliper recently seized. The first and only symptoms were juddering at 60-70 when I immediately slowed down to a smooth 30-40. I drove about 10 miles home like this and a further slow 10 miles a few days later to a garage for repair.
  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 06 1.6 Removing rear brake drums 29 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I would appreciate some help on the tools required to remove the rear brake drums on the Focus II. On previously owned Fords I've removed the 4 hex head bolts holding the spindle carrier to the rear suspension and then removed the spindle assembly complete with brake drum.
  • Safety features that aren't! 12 Feb 2009 (Forum)

  • Peugeot 106 (1991 - 2002) - 1998 1.5d Water getting into brake lights 29 May 2008 (Forum)
My two rear brake lights aren't working. I've had a quick look at them and I can see that there is some condensation / moisture in both of them. I had a new bulb fitted on the left one when i had a winter service in November.
  • Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - (99-04)2.2 petrol - ABS problem (UK car in Malawi) 19 Apr 2008 (Forum)
We have a car here in Africa that a customer imported from UK so different to our normal specs. however the brakes are giving a typical ABS pulsing sensation when braking at slow speeds (Brake and clutch together type speeds) and there is a significant grating noise as the vehicle stops. We cannot see any signs of grinding on discs etc and have already replaced ABS wheel sensors, ABS ECU and ABS unit plus replaced the servo (Which on this model is on LHS of bulkhead).
  • Subaru Forester (1997 - 2002) - 00 Brakes coming on when reversing 6 Jan 2008 (Forum)
My 2000 Forester S has a tendency for the brakes to come on when reversing and have the impression may be worse uphill which not normally a big problem but seems to be happening more often. As soon as car goes forward they release so I presume it's something to do with the hillholder clutch mechanism which understand uses some sort of gravity sensor i.e. car facing upwards on slope retains sufficient brake pressure to hold car when footbrake released and clutch pedal depressed, however my logic says that reverse acceleration would be the same as facing downhill.
