Next door a surprise appearance by a 1,900 mile 2003/53 reg new shape Lexus RX300, without Navigator, didn’t arouse the interest it would have done in Top Car, starting at £26k and running out of bids at £27k. Bargain of the day was also next door: A 2001Y Passat TDI PD 130 Sport in regulation Silver with a lumpy 81k miles went for £8,250. There will be a big BMW open sale at Blackbushe next Monday 16th February, together with the usual Lex Executive sale, so put that date in your diaries. -
First Diesel Engine to Meet Euro 4 Emission Regs 17 Dec 2002 (News)
This is a Vauxhall press release, as it came (the car in the photo is the 2004 Astra):- The new Vauxhall Astra 1.7 CDTi, the first diesel model to meet the stringent Euro 4 emission standard, brings with it better performance, greater running smoothness and greatly reduced exhaust gas pollutants. The 1686cc 16v 80PS four-cylinder ECOTEC turbo diesel, with two overhead camshafts and common rail direct fuel injection, produces a maximum torque of 170 Nm and a top speed of 108mph in saloon and hatchback models. -
MINI News 6 Sep 2001 (News)
The Hydrogen powered concept MINI will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Showon 11th September. It runs solely on hydrogen and shows the potential for a virtually zero emissions vehicle which still offers outstanding performance in an affordable package. Its engine uses internal combustion technology, like the BMW Clean Energy cars, and is based on the current 1.6 litre, four cylinder petrol unit. -

Other American cars which sold were a 1944 Jeep which made a high £3,800 (£4,113 inclusive) because its running gear was in excellent condition, and a smart 1955 Ford Thunderbird in black with period accessory chrome wire wheels which made £13,100 (£14,177 inc.). A 1955 Ford Fairlane Sunliner bid to a provisional £11,200 and a 1966 Fairlane 500 Convertible to £5,400, also provisional. -

The safety of the car’s occupants was catered for with copious padding. SRV5 The final SRV car was based on the Austin/Morris 1300, perhaps an odd choice in view of how close the car was to the end of its production run at the time. -
Celebrity drivers at Silverstone Classic 18 Jul 2011 (News)

Internal combustion engined vehiocles are far more efficient for long runs. Neither are good at both unless combined into a hybrid, such as the Toyota Prius, Honda Insight, Lexus LS450h, Lexus RX450h, Lexus LS600h, Mercedes S400h, Chevy Volt and Vauxhall Ampera. -
Auction Values Continued to Rise in April 13 May 2009 (News)
Year-on-year, April 2009 values are ahead of the April 2008 average figure of £5,406 by £235 or 4.3%. It is the second month running that the year-on-year figures have shown growth, following falls throughout much of 2008. Stock remained at relatively low levels in April, with P/X volumes falling after showing some growth last month. -

Road registered as DEN275 on 9 May 1955, the resultant Lister-Riley duly lined up for the Bol D'Or 24-hours Grand Prix de Paris some six days later. Running against Porsche 550, Maserati A6GCS, Ferrari 500 Mondial and Gordini T15S opposition, the Lister was forced to retire with big-end failure. Returning to the UK, it was then entered in various domestic meetings, but met with little success. -

Car buyers over-55 less likely to choose electric, survey finds 15 Nov 2019 (News)
Interestingly, when looking at the most important considerations when buying a new vehicle, emissions and environmental impact only ranked fifth. Running costs were cited as the top priority, followed by purchase price, fuel/energy consumption and driving experience. Having the ability to charge at home was cited as the most important need by over half (53 per cent) of consumers when considering whether to purchase an electric vehicle.
