  1997 with brake problems. NSR shoes had delaminated and drum fell off easily. Will the offside come off??!! Rotates freely, but roughly, but will not budge, even with puller. Any suggestions? SL tweak

  The handbrake warning lamp stays on ,on the dash when the hand brake is on or off, i disconected the switch and it still stayed on. I thought the switch was at fault,i fitted a new one ,but the light is still on. Any ideas Gti Jo

  We have a 2.5 v6 x pack Ford Cougar on a W plate. It needs servicing and the light to say it needs new brakes has come on! What price are we looking at? Being a woman i'm paranoid that the price will be hiked up!!

  Could anyone give an estimate of the price a garage will charge for fitting new brake pads and discs to a Micra, year 2000 1L. Would you say it is best to have the discs replaced at the same time as pads if there is just a little corrosion. Thanks.

  I own a 94 Golf VR6, my problem is i find the brakes to be only just adequate(would like them to be better). Does anyone else agree? I know after 95(i think) VW put bigger front discs on the vr6.

  I have just started getting a grating noise (like metal rubbing on metal) when I press the brake. The brakes are working fine and it is only when I press the brake pedal that I get this sound. What is it liely to be and is it going to cost me a fortune to repair?!!

  1956 LWB petrol. Just changed the rubbers on the master cylinder and am having real difficulty bleeding the brakes. I'm told this is always a problem with these Land Rovers. If anyone knows of any trick which would help, I would much appreciate it.

  Could someone confirm that a DOT 5 brake fliud is a higher spec than a DOT4 - eg higher boiling point or similar? As with oils, is there a problem in putting, say, DOT 5 fluid in a system originaly specced for DOT 4? Are these specs (American Dept. of Transport) on the Net?

  When it's time to move off, put your foot on the brake, release the handbrake and then move your foot from the brake to the accelerator. The hill start assist will prevent the car moving backwards while you do this.

  I need to change just  the rear part of one of the brake cables. The part which attaches to the brake shoes and exits the back plate and then joins with the rest of the hand brake cable. The problem is where it joins with the rest of the brake cable  via a metal sleeve.

  I'm very upset by articles advocating left foot braking in two-pedal cars, ESPECIALLY by the older generation.  My father, who is now 84 and has in the past 10 years only driven DSG cars, has taken up this practice (for some reason I cannot talk him out of) and as a passenger, I can tell you it's a genuinely horrible experience; lousy control, jerky braking, sudden stops, occasional ABS activation for no good reason, actually hitting objects at low speed from time to time, and all because of poor brake control.

  Now when I drive the car either first thing in the day or initally after it has sat for a while and apply the brakes, I notice some squeaking from the brakes which seems to disappear once I have driven a mile or so. Do you think this is normal and if not should I go back to the garage again ?? Thanks ps Do you think the calipers need attention
