  • Can I decide who services my new Fiat? 1 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I sourced the car by the Internet, and I am not happy with the supplying dealer. They have a dreadful reputation, and I have personal experience of them from when I used to run Alfas. The car is fine, no problems yet, but if there are any I really don't want to go back to the supplier. Can I go to any franchised Fiat dealer for servicing and/or repair work without affecting the guarantee?

  • Redex or Oil Change? 24 Dec 2006 (Forum)
At the last oil change (approximately 3 months ago) I put Magnatec oil in and also gave my 1.9TD Xsara a good shot of Redex diesel treatment. Along with making it run quieter, these two combined took me from getting approximately 400 miles from a tank to over 500... quite a substantial improvement! (I'm now getting over 55MPG down steep, Devon B roads when according to the handbook I should be getting about 45.)
  • Renault Laguna - No drive... Clutch? 16 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Now it won't drive at all, forward or back. The car is a P reg 1.8 RT by the way.... The engine runs ok, but there's now a rattle/grind when the clutch is not depressed (even in neutral). If I depress the clutch, the noise stops after a second or two. If I put it into gear and try to drive all I get is very loud crunching/grinding noise......
  • diesel engine noise and vibration 13 Dec 2006 (Forum)
The engine a non-turbo 2.5 Diesel which according to the RAC man he believes it is from a fork lift truck (interesting). However although the engine runs fairly well it seems juddery and excessive vibration during acceleration mainly in 2nd, 4h and 5th. I have checked the filter and I believe the engine mounts are o.k. due to fault started just before the MOT.
  • Wife wants new car 12 Nov 2006 (Forum)
My wife is currently running a VW Polo 1.4 Match 52-plate. It's a nice little car and I quite like using it. However, she ocassionally goes to visit her mother, and is finding it hard to get a fold-up wheelchair up and over the boot lip so she can take her mother out on a jolly, and un-load said wheelchair.
  • Mk3 Golf Diesel - Noisy Turbo 29 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Given that there is still air in the fuel line which means less fuel getting to the engine, would this cause the Turbo to make the noise or is it something more sinister and expensive ? By the way it runs on Biodiesel, not the homebrew crud but the proper stuff filtered etc... what would the rough costs for a a new turbo or fuel pump be ? any help would be a huge bonus... Richard
  • BP Ultimate Diesel in Pug 18 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Guys, just wondering if any of you has ever tried and found any difference in performance, economy or quieteness of engine by filling up the tank with BP's Ultimate diesel in Peugeot diesel engines. I used to have Polo diesel and it definitely used to work because car used to run more smoothly, quietly and pick up used to improve. I've just bought a 106 1.5 diesel and put it in the other day but I think it'll take me sometime before I find the difference by filing up the tank with a normal diesel and then Ultimate diesel couple of times.
  • problem gears fiat punto 1999 6 Oct 2006 (Forum)
just bought a punto, its a 1999 1.2 16v '85' I bought it with issues (bent valves). Anyway after sticking a full set of new valves in she runs a treat but Im having issues with 3rd gear. Sometimes...not often it will go in but most of the time it just jumps back out of 3rd as soon as you lift the clutch. I believe the cable can be adjusted, if so how?
  • Replacing Corroded Battery Cable VW Polo 4 Oct 2006 (Forum)
A new cable costs around £60 so being of the old school I'm wondering is it practical or wise to just cut back the old cable and seal it off and then run another cable from battery to starter bypassing the old one? and save some money.

  • Triumph TR2 Not Starting 21 Sep 2006 (Forum)
If I squirt easy start in the air intakes, the engine will fire only until that juice is used up. It doesn't seem to want to pull fuel into the engine?? The engine has not been run for maybe 18 months or more, could it be stale petrol? Any ideas? Dave
  • Collapsing Radiator Hose - Mazda 323 19 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I had the actual pipe replaced a month ago and discovered that it had perished quite badly, but changing the pipe hasnt made any difference and it still collapses when cold. Once the car has been running a few minutes it fills out normally. The car doesnt overheat and as far as im aware, has no cooling issues, so its a bit of a curiosity as to why this is happening. Car is a 1986 Mazda 323. {Added to subject header where people will see it without necessarily having to open your post first - DD} Thanks in advance!
  • X Trail Recall Problems 11 Sep 2006 (Forum)
The recall was for timing chain and tensioner replacement. They replaced both and the parts failed or were fitted wrong. The engine was run and suffered piston/valve contact. Jamming valves in the head. I have asked for a new engine but they are only changing the head. People are telling me that the engine could be damaged more and will not show up for some time.
  • A different type of starting problem 9 Sep 2006 (Forum)
If however I stall when the engine is warm, the starter motor refuses to turn at all... if I wait for the engine to cool a little, the starter motor will turn begrudginly - like I've got a flat battery (I haven't) the SM will only turn at full speed when the engine is cold... New alternator, rectifier checked, head sent away to exclude cracks, my mechanic has now run out of ideas... Any help out there? ATB,J.
  • vauxhall replacement exhaust 9 Sep 2006 (Forum)
What are others views of OEM versus aftermarket parts - I've had aftermarket exhausts before on another car ( deleted - please don't name the brand if you are going to be negative about them - DD ) and they were really awful and I don't want to make the same mistake again. Any thoughts you guys have would be much appreciated as I seem to be running out of luck at the moment (new discs pads, shocks and rear springs in the last two weeks!)
  • 97 Passat airbag light 23 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Took it to Main Dealer and they wanted £800 for a new wiring loom and labor on top of that to install it. I have just repaired my boot central locking by renewing the wires that run underneath the LH boot strut which had perished cos the strut pushes on them when the boot is opened and closed. I am hoping that this airbag issue is similar i.e. a loose connection or a broken wire.
  • Residuals, mini's, options. 23 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Whilst I know its a very good car in it's own right (handling, styling etc etc)...my biggest potential reason for buying it will be because with my own money (£12k-ish) will be for residuals and running costs - with such decent performance AND mpg of combined 48, it would seem ideal (except I'll miss the space of my Focus should I do it). I'd obviously pay for the service pack - but which other options from Cd-changer to Sat Nav to keyless entry are likely to recoup some of their value do you think?

  • a sausage and a chrome wheel 21 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Ok before you say I told you so, I won't do it again! Running a bit late today, was eating brekkie in the car, and pulled out of petrol station to make a left turn, whilst eating a sausage with one hand. ANyway, kerb to my left was 6 inches high and drove into that as I made the turn, hence I have a kerbed chrome rim and one big hole in my Pirelli P Zero!
