Guys, just wondering if any of you has ever tried and found any difference in performance, economy or quieteness of engine by filling up the tank with BP's Ultimate diesel in Peugeot diesel engines.
I used to have Polo diesel and it definitely used to work because car used to run more smoothly, quietly and pick up used to improve. I've just bought a 106 1.5 diesel and put it in the other day but I think it'll take me sometime before I find the difference by filing up the tank with a normal diesel and then Ultimate diesel couple of times.
I'm quite interested to know what you guys think about it and if it works in Pug diesels? Thanks

No idea if it works in Pugs, but makes a difference in my Accord. Mostly to torque low down before the turbo comes on, and makes it more responsive.
All the above could be placebo, but the 3 mpg or so improvement suggests not (used about three tanks brim to brim of each to compare, so okay but not proof as such).
Shell Extra is not as good, but better than ordinary diesel while priced at the same level as ordinary. And there's a station just down the road from me.

I'm trialling it in my Yaris diesel. Only 140 miles so far .. First impressions are Slightly less clatter at cold and slightly smoother idle.
As far as fuel consumption is concerned, a nromal brim to warning light flashing is around 450miles (about 60mpg) so wait and see - I document all my fuel (sad!) so will not know until another month or so. Will post when I do...

No experience of Pugs but I have tried a tankful in a Mondeo TDCi and felt it made no difference whatsoever, except to my pocket. I presume you have to try these things over an extended period in order to 'gain' from them and, even then, I suspect it's all a bit of a rip-off!

I used to put 3ltrs of new veg oil in with £20 worth of diesel in my Rover 1.5D and 405. Both ran much nicer with the 'additive'.

Well I have completed my first tankfull and rebrimmed the tank.
Average fuel consumption before: 57.3mpg
Average during last 470 miles : 58.3mpg
For all intents and purposes the same.
I've gone back to normal diesel as it is about 5% cheaper.
A triumph of hype over reality imo

Miller's Diesel Plus achieves something like the same effect without costing ?p/litre more than standard diesel. £9 worth treats 500 litres of fuel.
|
So that's 1.8p a litre then?
|
I guess so! It is certainly a lot less than the price diff between ordinary and Ultimate diesel, although there is some guff about getting an extra 28 miles per tankful! In what car, what is the tank capacity etc? Is it worth the extra. I get 660 miles per tank so 28 miles more wouldn't excite me much.

People that believe in this stuff say you sometimes have use 3 tankfuls before it makes a difference. Well I've tried it (and Millers) and neither seem to make any difference in my car (MB C270CDi), and I speak as someone for whom Optimax (petrol) made a *huge* difference in a 406 Turbo (petrol).
