  • Bmw compact - Bmw 318 vs 325 (n42 vs m54) 19 May 2015 (Forum)
my current car is a 100bhp rusty ford so either car is better for me but I would like to keep it for several years so reliability is a must.  Running Cost wise both the 2.0 and 2.5 are similar on insurance and fuel economy. Obviously the 2.5 will cost more but not a great deal.  So Can someone advise me on which to get? I've decided on a bmw so no comments telling me to get something else.  Thank you.

  • BMW 5 Series E39 - Won't start when hot 29 Aug 2014 (Forum)
But what he did find when he was in the car and everything was quiet is no fuel pump noise-not turning over with the ignition on. Ok, no big deal I hear you say, what new? The big difference is that there was no power to the pump(cause is suspected ECU not sending message to power the pump).
  • Nissan Micra K11 1.0 - Lack of engine response 12 Aug 2014 (Forum)
It would start easy enough and idle OK, either cold or hot, but would not rev when I pressed the throttle, and was virtually impossible to drive as there was just no power. I tried replacing the fuel pump, but that made no difference. I then tried disconnecting the Mass Air Flow Meter, and the engine sprang to life and the car drove fine. I took out the MAF, and found that if I reconnected it when it was away from the air flow through the throttle body the engine response was fine, but I got the old symptoms of no power or revs as soon as I fed it back into the throttle body.
  • Peugeot 307 04 plate - Fault Codes 4 Aug 2014 (Forum)
My first thoughts were either EGR OR DPF, so I plugged in my newly required solus pro ( this was also a case for me to play with it to get some experience) and it threw up the following codes, My thoughts pointed to the DPF and additive, but would that also link in the MAFF, Turbo boost sensor & DPF sensor a? • Ford Fiesta Mk5 - Ford Endura DE: intermittent starting trouble 11 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Even if does so, continuous cranking must start the engine right? But this does not happen. Engine keeps on spinning without diesel. 4) The plunger in the fuel filter housing is tight enough. 5) I already changed the diesel pump start/stop solenoid, so that is ruled out. Going to Ford for this means, a long list of 'replacements', which i don't want to do for this decade old car.
  • BMW 3 Series Touring (99-05) - Car for High Mileage Commuting 9 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Over the last few weeks I've been trying to find myself a good used car that will fit the bill for my 600mile/week commute (mostly motorway cruising). The primary requirements are- Good on fuel economy (I hope for +50mpg on a 70mph motorway cruise) Likely to be reliable covering high mileage General Running costs should be affordable   BMW hasn't actually been on my list to look at.

  • Ford Focus - Ford Focus - Which Diesel Engine? 6 Feb 2014 (Forum)
However, as my daily journey is 90% motorway cruising, I'm wondering if the larger 2 litre would be reccomended? Does anyone have any advice on how much difference I would actually notice in terms of fuel economy and performance?   If you have any experience with these engines I'd love to hear your comments - and in particular what sort of mpg I can realiticaly expect for motorway cruising.

  • Renault Clio II 1.2 Petrol '99 - Clio 1.2 has intermittent starting issues 8 Mar 2013 (Forum)
The next stage is that you then cannot start the engine again - it will just turn over as if you have run out of fuel. Call the AA, wait 20 mins, by the time they arrive, it will start again and then drive perfectly fine to another 3 weeks or so. In reality, the not starting issues are random and can happen any time, but usually a few weeks apart.
  • Spacious family car to seat 5 circa £9 - £10k (used) 31 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Hello, Here is the criteria: £9-£10K Decent passenger room in rear (preferably to fit my missus who is a petit size 6) in between two child seats for kids age 4 and 5. Safe - 5* Encap if possible. Decent fuel economy Reliable My daughter is very prone to car sickness, so the car should be resonably refined. Air con a must That's more or less it.  The car would be used fora short school run during the week and then days out at weekends and possibly holiday in the summer.
  • What car for a long road trip across Europe... 3 Jan 2013 (Forum)
It's a total of 1600 miles each way and I need to buy a decent car that will be great/epic on the fuel consumption, be comfortable and won't break down leaving me stranded out in the middle of no-where. I know no-one can guarrantee that last one but hey, at least a good chance of it not going wrong. I have a maximum of budget of £1000, maybe a tad more if a great car pops up.
  • Mercedes C-Class - Estate 2003 CDI - Engine - pick is very slow 30 Nov 2012 (Forum)
Otherwise car engine is fine no smoke or anything like that - I just got it serviced locally as they thought it might be fuel filter etc etc - but no improvement. Car dash doesnt show any malfunction as well If you can please help and let me know, what can be the likely cause of this problem and what will be the damage  Many Thanks  S
  • BMW 3 Series Touring - Steering Vibration on BMW 19 Oct 2012 (Forum)
So - a new caliper, two new discs and a new set of front brake pads completely cured the problem AND gave me a much livelier motor with much better fuel consumption. Bentons quoted a similar occurence with another customer who had similar problems after driving the length of the M11. No problems for most of the journey but with an increase in use of the brakes when nearing the end of the M11 steering judder occured - problem due to brake caliper binding
  • Very Cheap small 4x4 16 Oct 2012 (Forum)
I am looking at three possibles for a cheap 4x4 Landrover Freelander XEDi 5 door Subaru Legacy 2.0 or 2.5 estate Jeep Cherokee 4.0 or 2.5TD   I know I can find a good one of any of these for under £1500. I will only be doing around 5k miles a year so fuel not a problem. What I know so far.. Freelander- The old diesel engine seems to have a good reputation of maintained and they dont seem to suffer from rust but dont drive like a car Legacy-Owners seem to have great things to say about these cars but some also say that fixing problems can be expensive Cherokee-far more agricultural than the other two but highly regarded by owners if not car reviewers !
  • Peugeot 307 CC - Conked out! 9 Aug 2012 (Forum)
Hi, I recently bought my Peugeot 307 style HDI diesel (3 months ago), and it has up until now been brilliant... but yesterday, it bleeped and a warning light appeared (engine) and it conked out almost immediately. I was on the A38 at the time, and the AA were called.  It was low on fuel (but not to the point that the warning light was on) so, he topped it up with diesel and it started. However, he couldn't get our car 'to talk' to his computer, and so was unable to diagnose the fault...
  • Diesel or petrol... can't seem to decide 26 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I do a fair bit of mixed driving right now but in a few months I'll be making longer trips (60+ miles to 120miles+ return trips). My thinking was that a diesel would be the answer to my prayers (fuel cost wise) but I'm being scared off Mondeo diesels with stories about the DMF and turbo problems. I have driven a Rover 220 SDi before and never had a problem with the engine components (always electrical).
  • Toyota RAV 4 (2000 - 2006) - 2002 2.0 Diesel Flywheel failure? 9 Dec 2011 (Forum)
    If so, is it a common problem and has anyone else got a goodwill contribution? Interestingly, one comment on the other forum suggested that changing the fuel filter cured the problem - any ideas? Thanks, Mike {amended to include drop down menu selection}
