Peugeot 307 CC - Conked out! - summerhousejo

Hi, I recently bought my Peugeot 307 style HDI diesel (3 months ago), and it has up until now been brilliant... but yesterday, it bleeped and a warning light appeared (engine) and it conked out almost immediately. I was on the A38 at the time, and the AA were called.

It was low on fuel (but not to the point that the warning light was on) so, he topped it up with diesel and it started. However, he couldn't get our car 'to talk' to his computer, and so was unable to diagnose the fault...

The only thing that has occurred to me is that our friend decided to scrap his van but had a full tank of diesel which he kindly gave to us... this was without problem for the 400 miles or so which I have driven since. However, I am now wondering if this is the cause of the drama from yesterday? Is it possible that sediment from his tank was transfered and this caused the engine to conk out?

If it is the cause, can anyone advise what would be the remedy? I'm especially anxious as I have a child with a disability, and breaking down with him isn't really an scenario that I care to relive! So any advice would be most welcome. Thanks!

Bit late now but the fuel should have been filtered, a stocking is ideal.

How was the fuel removed from the van, was it syphoned out or drained from under the tank, first is preferable as unlikely to drag up water or clumps of gunge, second is very likely to cause grief, and what container was the fuel transfereed via, please don't say it was a TFR (traffic film remover) drum.

Most importantly though, this van hasn't been running on bio or other muck i hope.

First thing i would do, assuming the car is now running well and pulling strongly is to drain the fuel filter and reprime, if you collect the fuel via the drain valve through a pipe into a clean jamjar you will see if any water is present (sinks), then reprime the filter and carry on, i would get the fuel filter replaced after you have run a few tanks of fuel through anyway.

Course it might have been nothing to do with the fuel you were kindly given and you simply ran it low.

Also, it is a Pug 307, expected to conk out regularly...:-)
