If a car was registered to someone before me - can I reject the car and have my deposit back? 13 Nov 2017 (Ask HJ)
I put down a deposit on a car from a main dealer, but he now says I have to wait a few weeks for the logbook to arrive. Can I have my deposit returned? -

Sick Alfa 156 2.0 TS Man 9 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Took 3 months to order in parts by which time car tended to understeer and vibration developed at all speeds through front of the car, (also changed tyres to Potenza S03's from Pirelli's wished I had put Michelin on). 4. 22 months old, dealer finally fitted new front wish arms, repaired rocker cover gasket and the engine braking improved but the suspension did not. -
Audi Q3 - Car on order with all the things Backroomers hate! 15 Mar 2020 (Forum)
Obviously, for us, it's not an issue, as it's a contract-hire agreement, including servicing, insurance, VED, breakdown cover, tyres etc. A really good deal. Picking it up Friday 10th. I'll keep you posted on whether we have any issues over the coming months. -

Mazda 6 - Mazda 6 engine failure due to oil blockage 3 Oct 2017 (Forum)
They also said it wouldn't have found this issue. I am now waiting for the warranty company inspector to review the car. The cost of a partial engine would be £6700 at retail who his out of the question for me to cover! Thoughts appreciated! -
Ford C-MAX - ford cmax only 2 years old from new, clutch gone 16 Nov 2015 (Forum)
CAn we drop the gearbox (instantly costing money). we are pretty sure its the clutch and that it won't be covered as it will show "abuse". Oh, and they reckon at least £700+. I'm no boy racer! Been driving 23 years, never had a clutch go, don't ride the clutch. My last car also a cmax from same garage, no problems. -

Car decisions - can't get past the warranty 8 Feb 2012 (Forum)
I can get a (diesel) Ceed for £10k easy, probably a year old with hardly 5 figures on the mileometer... but the cheery on the cake is it will still have 6 years warranty to cover it.... We also love the Insignia, Astra, 1-series and a few others but similar spec cars to the ceed would be at least 3 years old and out of warranty... if I understand correctly, the Vauxhall warranty is not transferrable at all so unless buying from (overpriced) Network Q then we only get the sale of goods act to rely on... -
53 Plate Honda Civic 1.7 cdti (manual) - Honda Civic Woe's; Starting & How to tow ? 15 Sep 2011 (Forum)
This leads me onto my next question; my ford fusion has 2 very clear towing points, one under the rear bumper and a hidden recess in the front bumper, which is under a small removable cover. The civic has the usual rear towing eye/hoop but I cannot see any towing point at the front, does anyone know where the towing point is please ?. I aim to tow the car 5 miles to a mechanic, have a tow rope but can't figure out how to attach it to the civic. -
Fuming!!! 8 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Returned to my work car park one night last week to find the rear bumper of my car badly scratched at one side and covered in turquoise paint. As I work for a bus company with such coloured buses it did not take a genius to work out that one of my workmates had managed managed to hit it whilst driving a bus (the car park is right next to the bus depot entrance). -
Don't judge a..... 27 Jul 2003 (Forum)
;) Whatever, you get the gist.. I look like I'd be all girly and drive some so called hairdresser type car - but I'm not, and I don't (unless it suits to play that card sometimes to fob someone off "oooh no, I really couldn't make a decision on buying that lovely double glazing, you'd need to talk to my husband") Anyway, once, I had a car to drive (through work) that had been worked on by a team of apprentices - amazing paint job, would get you noticed wherever you were, chrome exhaust, even a chrome engine. -
Shogun discs 22 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Anyhow, after about a week, I consult the Mitsy dealer over a few niggly bits which we all suffer after buying a used car (dont we?) and they were more than happy (as usual) to get the car in and put it right for me. One of the complaints was a very slight brake shudder at high speeds (braking from 70mph), they inform me (after initial inspection) that they want it back to skim the discs next week. -
Astra H 1.6 petrol - Should I have my Repairs done? 8 May 2023 (Forum)
For maintenance purposes I’m also having the water pump, thermostat valve, coolant drain and refil, aux belt, rocker cover gasket, oil change and filters. I service it myself every 5k miles. My repairs will be quite costly so I’m pretty sure I will have it done because the car has never let me down yet. I do 15,000 miles a year in it for work. -
Volvo XC90 2008 - 44k engine blown - Mapfre Warranty not paying 14 Dec 2020 (Forum)
The car is within its "5-star warranty" with Mapfre Abraxas, who have had an engineer to inspect the damage...but the outcome is that they will not take the claim. They say that the damage is due to "low oil or heavily carbonised oil" and that this is not covered. -
Advice with a Parking Fine/ Magistrates Court 30 Jul 2018 (Forum)
This feels like extortion, but I dont want to risk having to pay £1000. I've tried contacting solicitors in the towns nearby and none cover parking litigation, so any helpful advice is highly appreciated. thanks SA@SG4 -
Bin lorries - is the driver allowed to leave cab? 14 Apr 2018 (Forum)
Had a google on the legality of this, with conflicting results 1) The engine of the bin lorry has to be on for the compactor and hydraulics to work 2) There is a safety switch at the rear to cut the engine if needed 3) The law that says its illegal to leave a car unattended and running is not applicable to vehicles that require the engine to be running for loading/processing purposes, eg. refuse lorry, skip mover, cherry picker etc. I accept 3) in principle, but not so sure the safety aspect is adequately covered in the 'use case' of bin lorries, where they're stop-starting down a road, without parking, every 2 mins. -
