  • Hyundai i30 (2007 - ) - Review 20 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Top speed is 120, for those wishing to chance their arm and licence. The gear change is still a bit notchy. The four-wheel disc brakes seem powerful to me but I had never driven a car with four to date. I do mostly medium and long journeys, keep mostly to speed limits, use block changes wherever feasible, have the aircon more on than off (otherwise the front windows mist up) and mpg to date, according to the computer, is 42.2 (although I make it 39 ) giving, if true, a useful range of nearly 500 miles.

Drive the car around for a week or two to get used to it and how it feels in corners. Try and drive the car 'balanced' through the corner, brake firmly before the corner and then ease of as you enter into the corner - its a Subaru AWD, so although you can floor the pedal and it will hold on (which is how the typical WRX numpty will drive), for fluid driving you should really just apply a little throttle as you go through the apex, just enough to overcome drag so that the car is balanced and neither accelerating nor decelerating.
  • What tools are really used for.... 19 Nov 2005 (Forum)
HYDRAULIC FLOOR JACK: Used for lowering an automobile to the ground after you have installed your new brake shoes, trapping the jack handle firmly under the bumper. EIGHT-FOOT LONG DOUGLAS FIR 2X4: Used for levering an automobile upward off a hydraulic jack handle. TWEEZERS: A tool for removing wood splinters.

Electric Hand Drill: Normally used for spinning steel Pop rivets in their holes until you die of old age, but it also works great for drilling rollbar mounting holes in the floor of a sports car just above the brake line that goes to the rear axle. Hacksaw: One of a family of cutting tools built on the Ouija board principle. It transforms human energy into a crooked, unpredictable motion, and the more you attempt to influence its course, the more dismal your future becomes.
  • But for the Grace of God.... 6 Oct 2005 (Forum)
After being told by the Tennessee state troopers that we would be sitting still until the clean up was completed, I set my brakes on the truck and got our to stretch my legs. Other truck drivers did the same, and at one point there were 5 of us standing there by my truck, complaining. Sitting right beside me in the left lane, were two elderly people in a Silverado pick up truck, which was loaded quite well.

Can be disturbing when you are following it in the fast lane at 80kph and it doesn't have working brake lights. Ally this to the Filipino disposition which regards any and every law, rule and regulation as a challenge to be circumvented by whatever means and you have serious congestion. Nowhere more than here is any form of policy or legislation honoured more in the breach than in the observance.

Interestingly the remainder of the engine including the radiator is not armoured on a B6 vehicle. A base model B6 Fieldmission weighs in at 3,520 kg empty so the suspension, brakes, tyres, rims and various body items are beefed up. For instance, a door is, on average during the life cycle of the vehicle, opened and closed 50,000 times. Obviously the standard hinges are not up to the job when the door is so much heavier and they are replaced with an in-house CAD design.

  • Cheaper than cycling - Recommended to Merc owner 27 Apr 2013 (Forum)
This morning a woman in a BMW tried a s***ty low speed lane change right in front of me. For a brief moment I thought about not touching the brakes and just driving into her. I’ve got black, unpainted bumpers. She’s got 26 payments left on that 318i and the deposit was more than the value of my entire car. But that wouldn’t have been very nice.
  • Aisin (Japanese) Carb-equipped - The Snake Pit : Stripping a Late 80's Carburettor 16 May 2016 (Forum)
Its had regular squirts of carb cleaner down the intake, but I've never been very convinced by carb cleaner. For this job I've been using brake fluid for cleaning, which (touch wood) seems to be quite a lot more effective.   I don't have a manual for this car but I have a scan of the G10 manual. This carb (AISIN Model 87773) seems to be very similar, but the photos are of the "remove tiny black dot from somewhere in the big grey fuzzy mass" school of 80's photo-impressionism.
  • Micra automatic 1.3 1998 - My Micra won't start; Please help !!!!! 8 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Lately, it has got a bit louder, but a new problem has arisen; When the car has been driven for a while, say on the motorway, and then driven on a normal road and parked, at the time of slowing down before parking, (this seems to happen when the foot brake is applied), the car makes a very loud slipping screech sound and the car lunges forward, as though the wrong gear had been selected, and slows down. This is intermittent though unlike the other problem, but has been happening more often lately.

Apart from the steering I am really happy with the car, though I have though reported some other (minor) issues to be looked at. 1. Parking brake is ineffectual ? cable probably just needs tightening 2. Electric controls for front passenger seat stopped working and seat doesn?t slide forward when backrest is tilted to get in the rear, in fact the seat base seems jammed in the full forward position, this may have been position there by my daughter who is quite small. 3.
  • Priu$ Worse Than Hummer 22 Mar 2007 (Forum)
As any physics major can tell you, it takes more energy to get an object moving than to keep it moving. The battery is recharged through the braking system, as well as when the gasoline engine takes over anywhere north of 30mph. It seems like a great energy efficient and environmentally sound car, right? You would be right if you went by the old government EPA estimates, which netted the Prius an incredible 60 miles per gallon in the city and 51 miles per gallon on the highway.

Undertaking, overtaking, weaving from lane to lane, all conducted with binary approach to throttle and brake, and at great speed along what were once impressive (and still are for sheer scale) boulevards. The masses of locally built cars and a reasonably smattering of mass market cars that we would recognize serve merely as mobile chicanes.

ELECTRIC HAND DRILL: Normally used for spinning steel Pop rivets in their holes until you die of old age, but it also works great for drilling rollbar mounting holes in the floor of a sports car just above the brake line that goes to the rear axle. MOLE-GRIPS: Used to round off bolt heads. If nothing else is available, they can also be used to transfer intense welding heat to the palm of your hand. OXY-ACETYLENE TORCH: Used almost entirely for lighting those stale garage cigarettes you keep hidden in the back of the Whitworth socket drawer along with the Viagra (What wife would think to look in there?)

Then we did some foot up riding round traffic cones (easy, except Leni fell off hehe!) and practiced panic stops. We learned the back brake for steadying the bike not for panic stops and that the bike weight goes on the front wheel so use the front brake. Highsides and lowsides and how they happen and what not to do. Jake he says all the time don't be scared of your bike but know it and how it will react.
  • Ford Focus 1.8 TDCi - Intermittant judder problems 40-60mph range 6 Aug 2022 (Forum)
In these cases my foot doesn’t completely leave the accelerator, let alone move to the brake pedal. Can very, very occasionally, in 50-60mph range get the small flutters without me consciously having had to ease off the accelerator, although it’s not to say there hasn’t been a small change in position in my right foot.
  • Downsizing one car - which and to what? 27 Mar 2022 (Forum)
Seat Arona – versatile.  I note that SE trim cars with 16” wheels are equipped with drum brakes on the rear so perhaps FR or Xcellence trim better choice – gives a bit more power and 6-speed gearbox. Quite spacious interior and boot, 1.0 tsi engine seems to be well thought of.  Nice looking for a crossover.

Initially done in Citroen dealer network then by local French Car indy but last was DIY. On it’s third set of brake discs, fifth pads and probably fourth exhaust – they tend to suffer metal fatigue at pipe/rear box join before the box/baffles give up. Tyres do about 30k with new ones going on rear. Local Formula One fast fit usually has good deal on either Michelin or BF Goodrich  - £60/£70 fitted and balanced.
  • FIAT Stilo 1.6 2002 16V - Car keeps cutting out 28 Nov 2012 (Forum)
My mechanic was tearing his hair out, and having sleepless nights over the car. I've been told other things to check are the brake sensor? ABS sensor or sensors. And the PCV? But not being an expert I have no idea where to find any of these things. This is pretty much my last hope! Here's hoping someone knows!
