  It's immaculate and has clearly been well cared for, with a clean MoT history save for an advisory over corrosion on the spare wheel carrier.  Being an SLi, it has such luxuries as a sunroof, central locking, a rev counter and a radio-cassette (what more do you need?) and comes with the CVT automatic gearbox. Apart from a reputation for being a bit snatchy when cold, the Metro/100 CVT is one of the better automatic boxes to be found in a contemporary supermini - like all CVTs it makes some fantastically weird noises, but it's set up to keep the engine revs at their peak performance, and - coupled to the 84bhp 1.4-litre engine - that makes the CVT the best performing non-performance Metro there was.

The 1974 Capri was originally a 2.0-litre Ghia automatic, but was resprayed in BMW Dakar Yellow and modified with the fitment of a V6. Alan carried out the work to replicate the mk2 Capri driven by John Wayne in  the film Brannigan, which features a car chase across London and a Capri jumping over a half open Tower Bridge.

  Debuting on the Focus in early 2012, the Door Edge Protector system should reduce the number of claims for damaged and dented paintwork. The system works automatically when a door is opened, with a protective flap opening in a fraction of a second to prevent damage to both the door and other cars against which the door might be opened. A dented door repair can easily cost £250, and according to Ford’s research, only 85% of British drivers believe perpetrators would admit causing damage by carelessly opening their door.

  IAM: Car insurance database must be reliable 17 Apr 2009 (News)
  Databases used to check whether drivers have car insurance must be reliable, the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has warned. Commenting on government proposals to automatically fine those who do not renew their cover, the organisation said it was backing the scheme but was concerned about current systems used to house information on consumers. "There are regular instances where the [Motor Insurance Database] has provided inaccurate information to police enforcement units, leading to mistaken action against drivers and vehicles which are in fact insured," remarked IAM chief examiner Peter Rodgers.

  Manufacturers could help improve road safety in the UK by ensuring motorists buying a car benefit from Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA), it has been claimed.
