Insignia safety results may impress car buyers

Thu, 27 Nov 2008
People considering buying a car may be impressed by news the Vauxhall Insignia has been awarded a five-star adult occupant rating in the Euro Ncap crash tests.

In addition to this, the vehicle received four stars for child safety and two stars for pedestrian protection.

Commenting on the rating, Hans Demant, vice-president of engineering for General Motors in Europe, said: "We designed, engineered and built the Insignia to be one of the safest cars on the road."

The vehicle features intelligent adaptive forward lighting which allows the motor's headlamp beam to adjust automatically to prevailing road and weather conditions.

It also includes an anti-lock braking system, electronic stability programme and three-point safety belts.

During the Ncap tests, the model was awarded 35 points out of a maximum of 37 for adult protection.

Meanwhile, the Insignia was recently named the 2009 European Car of the Year, after receiving 321 votes.
