Conservative Party leader David Cameron has announced that he wants the UK to be a world leader when it comes to hydrogen fuel cell or battery power vehicles. The politician questioned why Britain is lagging behind the US when it comes to the technology, when the US has "been slow in getting climate change". -
New 307 Beats Golf on Emissions 23 Oct 2001 (News)
Peugeot's new 307 2.0 HDI 110bhp diesel models with FAP particulate filters use even less fuel and emit less CO2 than the excellent new VW Golf GT TDI 130. Figures for the Peugeot are 54.3mpg in the combined cycle and 138g/km CO2 compared to the VW's 52.3mpg and 148g/km CO2. Both cars qualify for the lowest 2002-2003 VED rate for a diesel of £110. -

Frankfurt Motor Show 2015: Toyota Launches New Prius But Holds Back Details 15 Sep 2015 (News)
The press release tells us its new Prius "heralds the next generation of Toyota's signature hybrid powertrain" but is strangely reticent about the details. It talks of making its next generation hybrids easier and more intuitive to drive, that fuel economy is improved and that the new drivetrain is more compact. We get two statistics: that the thermal efficiency of the new engine is improved by more than 40% over its predecessor and that the new hybrid system targets an 18% improvement in fuel efficiency. -
Insurance prices on the up 28 Jan 2015 (News)
The average premium for a 17-year-old is now £1983. The rises are partly linked to decreased fuel costs and economic growth – with more traffic on the road there is a greater likelihood of accidents. The new battery offers a greater electric power only range, enabling the Prius PHEV to achieve an astonishing claimed fuel economy figure of 128.4mpg while CO2 emissions drop to just 49g/km, almost half that of the standard Prius. Toyota says the new Prius Plug-in Hybrid will offer drivers the best of both worlds with an extended EV driving range for shorter journeys in towns and cities, while the hybrid petrol engine gives the car long range capability and the very low fuel consumption of the standard Prius. -

Eco-driving tips offered by IAM 1 May 2009 (News)
