Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.6 High idle and creeping revs 19 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Engine braking does not seem to be effective either with this fault. It?s clearly a sensor problem, does anyone know what it could be? TPS perhaps? I have heard of 'resonance' as well. Could this be a possibility as well? -
Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - 2004 1.9dCi Clutch pedal failure 7 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I had the engine idling when being towed the final 7 miles home in order to have PAS and brake servo working. Labour is hopefully going to be mate rate (to be negotiated), but what do you reckon I'm looking at parts-wise? I have horrible DMF and clutch kit thoughts in my head at the moment. -
Volkswagen Beetle (1998 - ) - 2001 2.0 engine emissions warning lamp 30 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Have disconnected and reconnected the air flow meter, both with engine running and when switched off and light remains on. Fluid levels all OK and having done a quick forum search, both rear brake lights are working, as a blown brake light caused the emissions warning lamp to show on someone elses car with the same engine. No funny eggy smells and the car drives normally and isn't in any sort of limp home mode. -
Apology to a BMW Driver 8 Nov 2007 (Forum)
He enters and indicating right immediately moves straight across the two inside lanes and is surprised (I saw the expression on his face) presumably because I don't brake firmly, risking someone rear ending me, to let him into the third lane - He came within a couple of inches! Again I feel I must apologise for denying him passage to his rightful place in the outside lane. -
Lane Discipline & Other Rants 28 May 2007 (Forum)
One of these days I'm going to buy an old landie with huge bull bars and the next time this happens, my foot might not get to the brake pedal fast enough. Since you pulled out in front of me, you'll be the one to blame, and I might have to clean your paint off my metalwork. What else really annoys you when driving? Oh - one other thing. -
1999 Peugeot 306 1.9 TDi Meridian 10 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Just before christmas I was driving along and the car seemed to accelerate of it's own volition - only slightly but enough to make me use the brakes to bring it back under control. This seemed to clear itself up so I thought nothing more of it. A couple of days later I topped up the oil as you do. All was fine until driving alone a stretch of road the car began to accelerate quite sharply of it's own volition, billowing white smoke out of the back as it did so. -
Coming to traffic cop tv soon !. 5 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I followed for a mile and then all of a sudden the pickup took a sharp turn to the left , the tow car braked, the car being towed collided with the tow car and ended up accross the two lanes. What surprised me was that the pickup just carried on his way when he clearly must have seen what happened behind him as there was a loud screeching of brakes and a cloud of dust and smoke from the t.yres. -
Always have an escape route 9 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Not as concerned as a second later when he kept on pulling in until the tractor units wheels were less than a foot from the kerb. I didn't want to brake as I still had half the trailer unit next to me and after the briefest of mental discussions it wasn't the time to wobble about under hard braking so I dived off the bike and onto the grass verge separating the road from the pavement. -
Mondeo estate rear end noise. 8 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Took it into the Ford dealer and one of the mechanics went out and heard the noise and reckoned that it could be a wheel bearing ( 34K miles, still under Ford warranty ) The car went in to the dealer who in their wisdom, changed the rear brake pads ( because there was a TSB saying that a modified part cured a brake noise, when damp and slow moving, which was totally NOT what my car was doing ) they rang to tell me the car was fixed, that they had changed the pads, £135 thank you ! -
lights out all over the place 24 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Do cats eyes look red in the mirrors? You might have left the rear fogs on and the warning lamp failed, or the brake lights are stuck on. In a queue, does the car behind light up red if you dab the brakes? Is the car in front lit up evenly across the back or is a headlight out disguising you as a bike? If you actually use your garage to put your car in rather than store miscellaneous bikes, garden equipment and furniture, you can check the reflections from the wall. -
Smooth driving style 9 Nov 2001 (Forum)
In traffic etc... you should be able to drive without using the brakes if you plan ahead adequately. This is the advocated approach from all advanced driving schools of thought. Rather this than the stop-start-stop-start that plagues most traffic situations. yes/no? -
Main Dealer = Main Stealer? - Update 29 Sep 2001 (Forum)
They claimed nothing wrong with vehicle as it had just been through their workshop. So, I put it in for an MOT. Result - Most brake pipes so corroded that they had expanded plus other items which supported the initial inspection by LR specialist. Testing station deemed the vehicle unroadworthy. Called dealer HO (clue - scribing instrument and fire breathing creature). -
Ford Fiesta Mark 7 (09 reg) - Ford Fiesta MK7 - engine won't start 28 Apr 2025 (Forum)
Good Afternoon, Can you help me determine the fault with my Fiesta, it seems ignition won't start the car: https://youtu.be/Apswi6TYwiM Battery tries to crank the engine but it just won't start. And after around 10 seconds of dash computer starts throwing up several errors: 'brake system fault', 'abs fault', etc.. I've certainly not seen anything like that before. To add: car initially started briefly this morning, and stalled almost right away. It wouldn't start again. -
Skoda Yeti - Skota Yeti auto -- DSG high mileage 29 Nov 2024 (Forum)
Test drove a 2017 auto Yeti Outdoor this morning and liked it, aside from a sticky parking brake and a slight rattle at high speeds. Dealership noted this and said it'd be looked at with a fresh MOT and 6 month warranty. It has done 97,000 miles, so is it a mistake to purchase considering it's a DSG? -
BWM 320i - Legal defence for going through a red light ? 6 Aug 2024 (Forum)
Approaching a set of lights that had just turned amber, didn't think I could get through them in time, so slammed on the brakes. However to my horror the car still kept edging forward. I kept breaking but it kept moving. I put my hazards on as the car partiallt or maybe completely (can't remember) went over the white line. -
Citroen C3 - Alloy wheels 4 Oct 2023 (Forum)
Any recommendations for any products that can simply be sprayed on to alloy wheels to help keep the brake dust down to a minimum ? The wheels in question are a mixture of high gloss black with a polished alloy. I am looking for a cleaner and not something to seal the surface. Previously I would have simply popped them off once a month and given them a good scrub but my health isn't what it used to be. -
Audi A7 Sportback - Petrol cap 16 Mar 2023 (Forum)
It wasn’t a difficult/expensive replacement but the guy said to me it happens all the time as the motor brakes. I’ve had that one for a year and I’ve also got a new Q7 which is about 8 months old. I’ll try to find a link to the exact A7 if it helps but have others had this issue regularly? I’m wondering how long the fix will last or when it will come up on the other car. -
Volkswagen Golf MK6 2011 tdi 1.6 - My Car vibrates on Idle after fuel injector change 24 Feb 2023 (Forum)
I've noticed the car vibrates when idle now at traffic, or when im at traffic and foot is on brake. I've done about 20 miles since had this from the mechanics, should I drive it a lot more to let the ECU learn or something and will this ease the vibrating at idle? Even when the car is on PARK - it vibrates now that is noticeable. -
Mazda 3, 2.0 skyactiv petrol, 2015 - Fuel economy- short trips 13 Jun 2022 (Forum)
We’ve had our car for just over a year, but it’s really poor on fuel on short journeys, if we don’t have a motorway trip on a full tank full then it averages below 25mpg, this is checked by amount of miles to fuel used, not through the cars reading, it’s fully serviced with the correct oil, filters and spark plugs, non of the brakes are bing either, I’m wondering if it’s just the short runs that cause this or if I should be looking for any other issues, motorway journeys average 45mpg, we never had this problem with our 1.8 mk8 civic.
