  • M25 Ripple effect ? 12 Dec 2002 (Forum)
The M25 has always seemed to suffer from a ripple effect - hold ups which suddenly appear then disappear for no apparent reason. I've hear it is due to the combination of high volumes of traffic and the erratic braking of some drivers. If this is so, why havn't I ever come across the ripple effect on other busy motorways ? Have I missed something or is the M25 a special case for some reason ? Any ideas anyone ?

  • 306 turbo diesel cam belt 3 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Its time to change my 95 306 xrtd cam belt , last time I did this task the most awkward bit was getting cam belt top rear cover removed. The brake resevoir gets in the way, I ended up lifting the resevoir out of the way which of course dumped the fluid all over the bulkhead. Any suggestions?
  • Ford Ka - Seized spark plugs 19 Jul 2002 (Forum)
As my daughter is taking delivery of one soon, I was wodering if any of you tech-heads know of any product on the market to prevent this happening. Would the copper grease used on brake calipers be suitable or not? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Ford Fiesta mk5 1.3 Endura - Grinding noise from mk5 fiesta in traffic 11 Jun 2012 (Forum)
It occurs when the car is moving regardless of whether: the is engine on, off, clutch engaged, clutch disengaged, brakes lightly applied, brakes off, handbrake applied, handbrake off. 2. You can hear it with the window open and closed - it's a rhythmic (and eventual constant) grinding / vibrating noise 3. It can be felt through the gear stick (the whole thing vibrates) and also can be felt through the steering wheel. 4.
  • Peugeot 306 - small list of problems..... 7 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Is this just a case of cable chasing for breaks from the fuse box or would it be something else?  Another problem is with hard braking there is a speed related knocking from the rear of the car. It is NOT the exhaust. The brakes aren't too clever though so would it be possible that the rear brakes are siezed? i cant get the rear drum off to look.
  • Merc C200 24 Mar 2010 (Forum)
To my disappointment though the road / tyre noise at certain speeds (90-120kph) was quite loud. The parking brake was the work of the devil.  I was given a quick demonstration before letting me loose and was told it gets easier with practice!  For those not familiar with these cars, to apply the brake there is a foot pedal on the transmission tunnel (right hand drive car) which is depressed to engage.
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1997 1300 Noisy engine and slave cylinder issue- n 19 Feb 2009 (Forum)
It failed the MOT in August on brake pipes and the inspector said the car was dangerious to drive, the pipes were replaced and since then the fluid losss seems to have stopped, could a slave cylinder repair a leak by itself if gunk got built up or was the leak probably a brake pipe after all?
  • Honda Jazz Hybrid - 4 different tyres on car ..Have I got any rights 4 Nov 2023 (Forum)
My partner checked it over today and there are 4 completely tyres on it and the  Brakes are making a noise. It's a 2021model surely this is not acceptable for a 16k car? Do I have any rights with the dealership?
  • Many,(probably) - Outside Circlip Installation Trick 22 Jul 2022 (Forum)
A cold chisel or screwdriver blade could probably also supply suitable wedges. This was on a bicycle coaster brake but I'd guess there will be automotive examples, though there wont always be clearance for this dodge.
  • MK8 Civic 2.2 - Horn Relay? 30 Mar 2022 (Forum)
Horn stopped working yesterday. Brake lights work,  so assume fuse # 21 is OK. I can hear clicking under steering wheel when pressing the horn switch so also assume "relay" - if there is one (?) is also working properly. Is there anything else to try before pulling the front bumper ( why do they put horns in such inaccessible places) ?
  • Automatic car alternator not charging battery 30 Oct 2020 (Forum)
When driving a automatic car battery dies due to alternator failure when driving up a steep hill, car cuts out and rolls downhill. Brakes do not work, steering neither, handbrake disengages, all due to battery being completely dead. My question is how do you stop the car, Why does it continue to roll backwards even though it is in gear?
  • Ford Focus Titanium X hatchback 2ltr 2012 reg - ABS driver assist 9 Jun 2019 (Forum)
Driver assist setting shows ticked in box / sign on dash window shows car symbol with OFF below, I have tried several ways to change so it will show ON at the dash no joy as yet, plus I have noticed when applying the footbrake it feels as though the brakes are 'grabbing' and releasing quickly
  • Volkswagen Up - Second Opinion 5 May 2019 (Forum)
It's been service every year and has only done around 2.5k miles in past 12 months since the last servicing with a total of 16.5k miles.  The question is, is all of this maintenance (mostly brakes and heat shield) necessary for such little mileage?  https://imgur.com/a/8pBqjaL (Copy of the invoice) Thanks in advance

  • Peugeot 207 CC 1.4 16v - Water ingress into fusebox 20 Apr 2018 (Forum)
Yet again the dashboard lights are indicating a problem with the Alb , steering etc and intermittent lack of braking and steering. Had the fuse box replaced with a second hand part in May last year but the problem is back again. There is mention of water coming from the washer pipe but I've no idea how to check this.
  • VW ABS warning light. 10 Apr 2017 (Forum)
Issue whilst the ABS light was on was no traction control and improved MPG, but the increased MPG may have been due to over easy driving style and more engine braking, as I needed to continue using the car prior to being repaired.
  • Audi A1 Sportback - Stop/start 19 Apr 2016 (Forum)
I feel that Stop/start is a safety hazard in my A1 Sportback S-tronic. There can be a significant delay, foot of the brake, nudge accelerator and then wait for the engine to start.  I have tried to get into the habit of turning this feature off when I first get into the car but I would rather not have to.   I understand that  Stop/start can be disabled in the cars computer system.
