Disappointing fuel economy

It's a nice small car. But you would expect with a 105bhp 1.6tdi that 60mpg would be easily achievable in maintly motorway / A road driving. Unfortunately, it's virtually impossible to get above mid-50s mpg, and sometimes as low as 45mpg in mainly town driving. 50mpg is average which compares unfavourably with our 1.2 petrol Suzuki Swift, which averages 52-55mpg.
Inside, it's ok, but not very space efficient. Rear seat space is limited, so don't expect to fit 4x 6 footers comfortably, again, compares unfavourably with the Swift, despite being a similar size. So, the Audi is not very space efficient.
Problems: front windows stick to their seals despite being treated by the dealer. The "media centre" failed completely and is currently being replaced under warrantly. The engine has improved with age, not being run in properly until 25,000 miles. The emissions fix has not noticably changed the engine.
Good points: Comfortable (in the front seats, nippy and pulls well, good on the motorway; nice to drive with good roadholding & handling. Bad points, lack of rear seat space for size of car, small boot, fuel consumption nowhere near VW claimed figure. 17" alloys have an unusual tyre profile and are stupid money expensive. "Media centre" is fiddly to use.
Sum up: nearly good but let down by dreadful fuel consumption.
