UK's best-selling cars finance deals

Each month the SMMT releases sales figures for the ten best-selling new cars in the UK. And here's the place to find our picks of PCP deals on the most wanted motors of the year.

See all the deals on the UK's best-selling cars we've seen

1. Ford Puma - 3695 sold in May

£324 a month: 3 year PCP at 1.9% APR

The Ford Puma was the best selling car in the UK in 2024, just as it was in 2023, as has popped back to the top of the UK's new-car registrations in May. Ford’s small family SUV has benefitted from a facelift this year to keep it on the pace. The Puma is very well equipped as standard, which is why we've chosen the entry-level Titanium model here.

Ford Solutions PCP Puma offers include a low 1.9% APR, so you'll pay less than £1000 extra to finance the car, and reasonable 9000 miles per year limit. Vehicles are generally in stock and ready to go, too, so delivery times are as short as one week.

2. Kia Sportage - 3256 sold in May

£272 a month: 3 year PCP at 5.9% APR, £1000 deposit contribution and zero deposit option available

The Kia Sportage slips from the top spot in May, but only just, with dealers shifting cars to make way for the Sportage facelift that arrives later this year. Excellent value for money, as long as you don’t opt for the top of the range models, the Sportage has a practical interior, lots of standard safety kit and is relatively cheap to run.

The Sportage Shadow features black 19-inch wheels, black chrome detailing and front and rear heated seats, and Kia is currently offering it with a £1000 deposit contribution. A 37-month deal with 10,000 miles a year is £272 a month with a £8300 customer deposit. Zero deposit is an option, taking monthly payments up to £584.

What is the cheapest month to buy a car?

If you're buying a new car and not bothered about having the latest number plate, the best time to buy is the months of February or August. This is the month before the bi-annual plate change - when dealers are looking to offload stock before the new registration period.

If you're buying a used car the best time is during March and September when the plate change happens, with buyers selling their used cars for new ones or trading them in at dealers.

Will UK car prices drop in 2025?

New car prices are likely to continue to increase in 2025, as they have done sharply for the years since the pandemic, when demand for new cars severely outstripped supply. However, with uptake of electric vehicles still lying just behind the levels required to achieve government targets, incentives and price reductions on EVs are your best bet if you're looking for a new car bargain. If you're looking to buy something pre-loved, used car prices have fallen slightly in the last couple of months. However, don't expect to see big drops in used car prices this year as the car industry is still suffering from demand outstripping supply.

What car is the best buy right now?

The best car to buy depends on your needs and budget. So we reckon the best small car is the Volkswagen Polo, while the best family hatchback is the Ford Focus. If you're after a small SUV then we reckon the Ford Puma is the best choice, while a larger family SUV like the Volvo XC60 is a great buy if you need the space.

If you're thinking of making the switch to electric (or already have) the Skoda Enyaq is certainly worth a look. For more inspiration check out our best car guides
