05 1.6 Programming Key - Ian Roberts
I wanted a new key for my car so I picked up a fob and a key blank off eBay.

I've managed to program the remote fob using the instructions in the handbook, and this works fine. I've had the key cut at a local place and this unlocks the doors fine, but I'm struggling to program the transponder to the car so I can actually start the car!

I have two working keys and have tried the method that used to work with older Ford's, i.e. put key 1 in and turn to position 2, put key 2 in and turn to position 2, then put the new key in and turn to position 2, but this doesn't seem to be working.

Can anyone confirm whether this should work?
Is there another way of programming the transponder?
Or will I need to go to a dealer?

These late Ford models can only have the keys programmed via the diagnostic link.Main dealer or a good independent with the right diagnostic kit.hth

Not all late model fords, I have 2005 and 2007 Fiestas where the keys can be fully programmed using two functioning keys.
