Classic case of going overboard with a spray can & some stickers & devaluing a car IMO

I really wanted to be generous and say 'each to their own'...I can appreciate a well executed 'pimped' ride. But didn't he notice it was a estate? And the nox bottle with pride of place bang in the middle of the cavernous boot?? Quality.

Bet it's a fake bottle, too. Does he not get the point when even his eBay listing describes it as a carvan?! :)

The ZZ4 is a 350ci (5.7L) small block with about 350bhp and 400ft.lbs out of the crate. With a reasonable amount of work it's an easy 500bhp motor.

So presumably with CVT it will do 50kph in reverse as well!
What are the limits on type approval etc? Crashworthiness?
If it comes under the microcar approval, presumably it can be driven with a restricted license in France for example?

Despite some more recent and paler imitations, this remains my favourite supercar. Unfortunalty i'm around £85k short in my piggy bank.
One question though. What's the funnel shaped thing underneath car at the rear?

One question though. What's the funnel shaped thing underneath car at the rear?
It is a diffuser, aids flow of air under the car.
|
|
One question though.
Another question.
Re "With only approximately 500 miles it is most likely the one with the lowest mileage available (when delivered from the Jaguar factory, all vehicles had been tested with 300 miles already)."
"...it has also been started up and all fluid checked each month during its life"
Yes but that is 40 miles per year so what problems are awaiting the next owner?
Oh and how much per mile will it be in depreciation?
(when we know the final price)
|
|
Very nice. Compared with Toad the Supra it looks very simple under the engine cover, and yet is, depressingly, much faster. But I suppose I could not get one for 15k; nor could I get it serviced at a local dealer for less than £200.
Anyway, I'd rather have a decent Ferrari!

A rather colourful entry:

|
I like the description, is actualy funny rather than the guys that try to be.
As for Bernadine the Jagwaar, what a machine, and all for the price of a baby Aston as seen in the background (or is that a DB9? - they all look the same from the front anyway, no bad thing really) would be interesting seing what they would both be worth in the future, seeing what classic prices are doing at the moment. One has dropped as low as it will ever be and is as close to new condition as possible and even has a movie heritage, the other (AMV8) is at the top off the depriciation curve. My money would be in the Jag.
|
Where and how did the seller get it from? Looking through some of his feedback, nothing to suggest he would be dealing in XJ220!!

rich people still need to buy normal things too, so I'm told.

Nice one, assuming he is not out bid the one bidder at £0.01 is going to have to pay £50-00 for first class postage.
|
Out of interest, can they legally enforce that? Given that nothing will get posted, or if it did, wouldn't cost £50?

The buyer would't pay and would get a bit of negative feedback at worst though I can't imagine that this guy would be able to give negative feedback to anyone with what he is taking.

Really? Ebay item 4608035326 - a proper boy's toy.
cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4608...1
|
For some reason certain commercial vehicles do not require MOTs.
To my knowledge, these include tractors, fire engines and breakdown cranes. So it is quite possible that the grown-ups' Playmobile crane doesn't need one either.
I do remember a trick was to fix a simple crane on the back of a LandRover, so turning it into a breakdown vehicle and MOT-exempt.
Also quite useful.
|
No tractor that had belonged to a farmer for a week could possibly pass an MoT test, even if it was still running.
I know a fireman who once boasted of sliding a fire engine complete with several tons of water on a wet roundabout. No doubt these vehicles are kept in racing fettle by their own mechanics and the MoT is redundant.
|
www.direct.gov.uk/assetRoot/04/00/95/92/04009592.p...f
The following vehicles are not subject to the requirement to produce an MoT certificate in support of an application for a vehicle licence:
(a) track laying vehicles
(b) articulated vehicles not being an articulated bus
(c) works trucks
(d) invalid carriages not exceeding 306 kg unladen weight
(e) vehicles used only in passing from land in the occupation of the person keeping the vehicle to other land in his occupation and not used on the road for distances exceeding an aggregate of 6 miles in a calendar week
(f ) hackney carriages or private hire cars licensed to ply for hire by certain local authorities authorised to carry out roadworthiness checks on their vehicles
(g) hackney carriages granted licences by Transport for London
(h) electrically propelled goods vehicles
(i) tramcars
(j) trolley vehicles that are not auxiliary trolley vehicles
(k) vehicles authorised for use on the roads by a Special Types General Order made under Section 44(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1988
(l) vehicles used exclusively on certain islands that lack a bridge, tunnel, ford, or other suitable way for motor vehicles to be conveniently driven to a road in any part of Great Britain.
|
>>(b) articulated vehicles not being an articulated bus
This puzzles me. That wording would seem to cover articulated lorries. Yet with articulated LGVs not only tractor units but also trailers need MOTs. Has the law changed on this?
|
No tractor that had belonged to a farmer for a week could possibly pass an MoT test, even if it was still running.
perhaps LUD could perhaps explain this a bit further
|
Perhaps I exaggerate. All I can say is that the farmer I know best, a rational man in many ways and very able, treats all mechanical devices as if they were axes or sledgehammers. From general observation, he isn't the only one.
|
|
|
I think that's the point - it's not an articulated vehicle, strictly speaking, but a tractor unit pulling a trailer and therefore effectively two vehicles as far as the MoT is concerned, even if the train only carries one VRM.
|
I think the articulated vehicle refers to something like those things for muddy/steep terrain where the front and rear are connected by a flexible joint so the front and rear axles move independantly.
|
With 12ft diameter wheels and fly-by-wire controls up in a little glass box on the front corner, 2,000 hp, 100 tons payload, 35mph maximum, yeah!!

A bit sad really in a way. By the way a cracking read is Vulcan 607 - the story of the longest range bombing raid in history in 1982. Motoring link is weak but here goes.....
1. Jeremy Clarkson reviewed it
2. To get one Vulcan to Stanley involved 8,000 miles of flying, one Nimrod, two Vulcans, 13 Victors, 19 in flight re-fuellings, 42, 1000 lbs bombs, 90 aircrew, and 1.5 million pounds of fuel enough to propel 10 family cars around the globe 1.5 times. Now that's something.
|
There is a Vulcan stored not far from my house at Southend airport. You can see it quite clearly as you drive past on the Southend to Rochford road. (motoring link)
A local landmark and talking point. Occasionally they roar up and down the runway.

I'm seriously tempted as i'm a 70's child as I suspect most backroomers are.
Live out your fantasies as Regan or even Carter!
What a fabulous car!, no wonder the Granny dominated the executive market in the 70's. How times change..
|
I once had one of the later Ford Granadas, the square shaped version, which I bought second hand as a stop gap car. I didn't need a car that big (and the old Granadas were huge), but at the time it cost less to buy one than an Escort of equivalent age, as I guess people were frightened by the potential running costs.
I kept it for about a year. It didn't exactly drive like a Mercedes Benz and the low tech 6 cylinder ohv engine had very rattly tappets, but for such a cheap car it was comfortable, quiet and relaxing to drive.
Tyres were expensive as they were a weird metric size called TRX (42cm wheel diameter IIRC). I never did manage to persuade the central locking to lock and unlock all the doors at the same time but everything else felt very solid and surprisingly well engineered. Oh and it wasn't possible at the time to convert it to unleaded. Happy days...

I was born 8 years after that car was first registered but even I think that there's something about it that just looks good.
I always moan about how modern Fords look so alike nowadays but you forget how similar (headlights wise at least) that looks to the first Capri.
|
Oh dear, I want...........
|
I had the next model Granada as a compnay car. Nice, nothing exciting: absolutely lethal in snow (nothing that 100kgs in boot would not cure), started to rust in front bulkhead after two years.
An excelent ad but it would be a perpetual battle with rust. Been there , done that, never again... If you were a perfectionist ... it would take imo a full body strip , rebuild and repaint to get it 100% rust free..
On the other hand as a nostalgic glimpse of the past for those who liked the 1970s it would be ideal: flash, no style and basically rubbish:-))
madf
|
'I always moan about how modern Fords look so alike nowadays but you forget how similar (headlights wise at least) that looks to the first Capri. '
Because different models raided the same parts bin, particularly door handles and suchlike. Also the later Granada was a Sierra on steroids.
