Hj Media Appearances - Tom_Huggan
No Dosh closed the thread (fair enough) so I have to
start a new one to tell you why there was no
warning. It's because there was no warning. It was a last
minute thing.

I read you column from time to time HJ & enjoyed your R2 comments last night! (That's how I found the site.)

Road closures is a complex issue without an obvious solution. I'm sure motorway closures happen more now than in years gone by. Either more fatal accidents are occuring or investigations are going over the top.

I once saw 14 miles of tailback for a lorry crash and I thought then that hassling 400,000 people for the sake of 1 fatality is getting the balance wrong. Some of those people will have something essential to do. Collective misery for thousands to gather evidence for a careless driving offence that will almost certainly be dropped seems pointless.

So yeah. Investigation of fatals is important, but the world is for the living.

I agree with the guy on the other thread: If I'm killed by a dangerous driver and half a million people have to be hassled to catch him I'd rather he go un-punished. Between those 400k people held up for 2 hours will be collectively giving up 80 years of life! Which is more than I've got left!

Keep up the good work HJ!
