The amount of clutter alongside the roads in towns waiting to become the "immovable object" in the case of a minor accident or error resulting in a vehicle leaving the road is becoming ridiculous.
There are lamp posts, telegraph poles, electricity poles, trees and road signs sometimes on average about every ten yards, including many which are redundant and have been chopped off at waist or head height and just left there, often for years.
Can't waiting restriction signs go on a lamp post like they used to? (and why do they always face the road - if you are parked next to them you can't read them through the roof of the car and if you aren't parked next to them you have to stand in the road to read them?)
Must every sign have its own pole?
Must lamp posts be on the kerbside rather than at the back of the pavement with a slightly longer head?
If you are looking for ways to make the roads safer (and less unsightly) much could be done with a little thought.

Unneccesary fencing is a pain as well: the A1M at Doncaster has recently-erected wooden fencing to prevent oncoming cars seeing what's on the roundabout, forcing them to slow almost to a stop. That junction isn't particularly busy with cross traffic, so forcing everything on a motorway to stop for no good reason, instead of merely slowing down and stopping if required seems silly and dangerous. It's not even an ARMCO barrier, so if anyone did hit it, they'd just fly straight though it anyway.

Your comments and suggestions are far too much like basic common sense to be ever adopted.
The total lack of liason and communication between the utility companies never ceases to amaze me. You see a stretch of road being dug up by the Gas providers one week, only to be back filled and within weeks you see the same stretch being dug up by another utility.
All this duplication costs an enormous amount of additional money, and it is us "Joe Public" that has to foot the bill.!!!
