Mk3 VW Golf GTi Queries - VWJohn

If anyone out there could help me answer a any of the questions I have regarding my Mk3 VW Golf 2.0 8v GTi (1996 Nreg) it'l be much appreciated.

1) Having looked all over the engine i can't find the engine number anywhere. Any idea where i may find it?

2) I've had my tracking done a couple of times but find the steering wheel becomes misaligned withinn a couple of months, ie when going in a straight line the steering wheel isn't straight, it looks as if i'm turning slightly.

3) Tick over isn't as quiet as i believe it should be and sounds as if its 'hunting'. This also shows when travelling along the road in any gear around the 1500-2500 revs mark when it feels as if the car is juddering slightly.
