My daughter's car (2010 Renault Modus with 90,000 miles in very good condition) has been scratched by another car - she got the details. If she makes a claim against the other driver's insurance, I am concerned it might affect her insurance premium when she renews, as she will been "involved in an accident" (however minor, and not her fault). Please can anyone offer advice on this? Many thanks. Read more
All this talk of Suzuki has made me think it might be time for an update.
I've had my Vitara for just over a year now. It's a 1.6 auto SX5 (the 'posh' one...) allgrip on an 18 plate... Read more
We’ve had our 2020 1.4 2WD Vitara for nearly two years. The 1.4 turbo is good, much more entertaining than our daughter’s previous 1.6. If you can resolve the belt/grass issue it might be worth considering a 1.4.
As for fuel consumption it’s around mid 40’s but that includes a fair bit of town driving. I reckon it’d be 50 plus in a run....
can someone recommend a diagnostic tool. i've a toyota 2017 yaris hybrid and need to find fault with the mmt gearbox. so needs to be able to read gearbox faults and be able to learn settings.i'd like to keep it under £200 from ebay Read more
If you don't have any luck, google "planet owners map" to find fellow Peugeot owners with the Lexia and DIAGBOX dealer-level diagnostic kit. They'll be happy to help you for a beer.
If you want the kit yourself, you can get a cable online for around £80, but you'll need a laptop to run it on. But a second hand machine for about £100 will be more than capable.
i have a bmw 2015 65 plate bmw x3 with 52,000 miles. Im looking for an ev as replacement. not sure what ev would be suitable for a small family of 3. My office is 310 miles from home and i have to go in once a month. Rest the car is driven about 5000 miles more for trips and general local commute. Im a bit confused as whether to buy brand new or buy used? Looking at lease deals even though tempting I hate to see money being thrown to pay a depeciation for a new car which is not owned by me. the x3 was bought on HP and is fully paid for. So looking for this to trade it in and buy something used/new.Max budget for monthly payment would be 500 pounds a month.
I have a drive so can charge at home but would have to get the setup installed.higher range 300 plus miles is needed. Rest not too bothered but if we can get similar higher driving position it would be great, if not also fine.... Read more
I would go for a fairly small low range EV like a Nissan Leaf or one of the Kias or Hyundais. You can probably get one for the value of your X3. Then spend part of your £500 a month on trains and taxis to work and have the rest left over.
Today, whilst driving home from B&Q in Weston-Super-Mare in my entirely unremarkable Suzuki Vitara, I overtook the Vampire. It's the UK land speed record holder and nearly rid us of Richard Hammond in 2006.
It was on a trailer. Read more
I knew what you were talking about, I just found the wooden jet fighter more interesting, and not much more distant from actual cars.
Congratulations on your overtaking victory though....
Dunno if I have done the right thing, but I bought 2x Pirelli P7 for front of car. They are dated 2022 and tread depth is practically as if brand new.
No issues so far with these.... Read more
I'd take the PIrellis over Rotalla if there's no visible damage.
Definately....
Is there profit to be made buying cars in mainland UK and shipping them out to Ireland or elsewhere?
I used to work as a trade plate driver and I was forever collecting vehicles from auctions and delivering them to docks – particularly Birkenhead for the ferry to Belfast. Given that the customers who ordered the vehicle deliveries will have been paying out quite a lot for both the deliveries and the ferries, I assume they must have sold for a considerably higher amount in Belfast to make it worth their while!... I'm intending to drive in Germany this summer and need to know how much tread I must have on my tyres. I found an old thread on here that said categorically that a minimum of 3mm is needed, and even if you are on that limit you won't be allowed to drive away
Searching online I find that the minimun legal tread depth is 1.6mm, same as it is here Does that mean the German authorities are enforcing a recommended tread depth and not the legally permitted minimum.... Read more
Ed, I think you may be mixing things up. The requirement to replace all four tyres is for AWD vehicles to stop the differental being stressed. Nothing to do with a German requirement.
Pretty sure I;ve seen it stated as such in an article on used tyres, though if so I still couldnt be sure it was true, and on reflection it does seem a bit unlikely...
Sorry now public.
Thanks all, particularly for the video Mord.
It certainly isn't as clean and smooth sounding as that, but doesn't sound hugely different and intend getting it tuned and any work done ASAP....
Second year running that my Nissan Pulsar 1.6 has failed its MOT on a broken coil spring (different side each time). Roads round our way are terrible these days. What’s the best used sub-£10k pothole proof SUV? I’m sure most of the “soft roaders” out there will be no tougher than my Nissan. I do a very low mileage so not too concerned about fuel consumption but no diesel, please. And would need to be ULEZ compliant, certainly not paying the Khan tax! Suggestions welcome. Read more
How about a RAV4 petrol.
Well within your budget , 2 or 4Wd . Great reputation for reliabilty as long as you choose the petrol version. ...
Tying up a loose end: daughter got a quote of £40 from a helpful local lad in a body shop. The perp gave her £100 and she gave the lad £50 as he fixed both the scratch and other existing scratch damage. It helps to have a nice smile :-)
