Hi all,
I wanted to get some honest feedback from people who actually care about cars and insurance.... Read more
Safe drivers with no claims are a lower risk and are charged less.
It is dressed up as a "no claim discount" to encourage the idea that it is a reward for safe driving and not making a claim. It is illusory like many discounts - it all depends where the "normal" price is set....
I've had building & contents insurance with M&S (Aviva) for 5 years now.in the past two years it has gone up from £210.49 to £495.26 an increase of 135.6%
I claimed in December 2023 for escape of water. A copper pipe hidden behind a false wall in the kitchen had split. Damage was confined to walls and woodwork total repair cost £2939.... Read more
Comparing home insurance prices can be more difficult than car insurance! Houses vary a lot. Location, type of house, history of claims etc. can massively affect one's premium.
My home insurance is circa £350 a year (building + content)....
Hi forum,
Can you help me to find most optimal 12V battery for Tuscon NX4 1.6 T-GDI MHEV.... Read more
I’m not totally sure how the system works on these , but on many Mhev cars, the starting function can operate through the ISG 48 volt system. ( integrated starter generator) . However, the 12 volt battery does need to be tested .

I am umming and ahhing about this.
The one an hour away is what my mum uses and used them before no problems.
I am wondering if it is better to drive the hour or so back just for the MOT test. Are there advantages to that or should I pick any nearest to current location?
I know the official line is that all MOT centres will test perfectly equally but the word on the street seems to differ. Even besides the MOT they might be grumpy or any manner of other things that would make them disagreeable.... Read more
The main problem for me would if it failed at the remote garage. If they are majors it can’t be driven. There is no grace period and the failure is online immediately. So you either have to have it repaired in situ or towed to another garage for repair for anything beyond your own capabilities. Doing this an hour away is adding complication.
I would try to find a local MoT garage who could do work if it’s not a DIY job. Hopefully it will all turn out OK whatever you opt to do,
I'm having trouble finding a replacement part for my 2008 Iveco daily. The drivers side window is very noisy, the reason being that I once threw away a large piece of rubber (about .5M long, 4cm wide that I found when I opened up the door to replace the regulator), now realising this had a dampening role). What is this called? All I'm getting in Google search is window seal. Read more
Hi there,
I am looking for a British (always the best looking classic cars in my opinion), modern classic convertible. I love a classy looking car for Goodwood days etc.
I have whittled it down to the MGRV8, Jaguar XJS Convertible or the TVR Chimera.
I live on the South Coast and am looking for a car to do my usual 1hr commute to Brighton 3 days a week (about an hour). But will also take the car down to France from time to time.
I love the looks of the MG, but realise it’s not the biggest.
The Jag would be great for motorway cruising and is probably the sensible option, as well a classy looker. But I can’t get past the fun I had while test driving the TVR, but will this be short lived?
I’m single with no kids, so don’t need to worry about back seats etc.
I have around £17k to spend, so should be able to get all in budget.
Just wondered on your thoughts please, given the above scenarios and that I hope to buy within the next couple of weeks?
Many thanks Read more
£17K is just the deposit. As a daily runner the owner would likely be on first name terms with the local garage and forking out regularly to keep the car on the road.
At a modest £17K budget (in today's market) I would probably downsize my ideas and buy myself a fairly recent / low mileage Mazda MX5 and enjoy a reliable soft top ( + a tin top for the cold months).
Taxi trade loved Vauxhalls fitted with the old 1700 Isuzu turbo diesel, it was a huge mistake on Vauxhall’s part when they didn’t carry on using later versions of it in the Vectra and Insignia. The taxi trade just couldn’t get on with the Fiat designed replacements.

Baffled by this as I see nothing at all within the looks of the new RAV4 which remind me of the Freelander?....
