I've started a new thread for advise on cars I may consider, to make it easier to follow.
I've taken notes on all the advise offered on my previous post (automatic gearbox advice) and am trying to follow them. ... Read more
Hi,
I was hoping for some advice. I found this car and hopefully going to look at it this week and test drive. Has anybody got any experience on owning one and what it's like? Mainly for the servicing and running costs for parts.... Read more
Done a bit more digging and it seems that the early 2 litre Ecoboost used the Mazda L block but no other parts. Later versions used a different but weaker block.

I'd appreciate Back roomers' recommendations for a replacement for my son's Skoda Octavia Estate 2.0 TDi which is now 10 years old with 150,000 hard/abusive miles on the clock but been absolutely faultless.
His mileage pattern is a 30 mile each way commute 5-6 days/week and occasional trips plus an annual trip down to southern France. He's 6'7", one of his son's is 6'5" already and the younger son is catching up fast so passenger space is important as well as luggage space for their camping trips.... Read more
If ending back with another Octavia (which as you say is no hardship, they are good cars), is there any particular reason not to get a bit longer out of the existing car? 150k miles doesn't seem OTT to me, if it's been properly serviced.
It's a case of pre-empting potential future issues - they are 150,000 hard/abusive miles as my son doesn't take after me in that respect.
Hi all.
I never been good at all those parking signs on the road so I just wanted to clarify something and I need your help. ... Read more
Thanks for your answer. You've been correct. I just received an email from council to clarify that matter. Cheers
If I had a 2 year old car with say 20,000 miles on the clock and the suspension failed, I think I could get it repaired under warranty.
The car has always been serviced by Toyota to fulfil the terms of their 10 year warranty:... Read more
We had similar with our Honda Civic. Water ingress into both front side marker lights. Almost certainly poorly designed and manufactured but not covered at 3 1/2 years old under extended warranty. Around £300 a pair too.
Hi, wife has got a galaxy mk3. Starts up in the morning and drives, after about 100mettes goes into limp mode. Stop the car, turn off and restart and is fine the rest of the day. Next day exactly the same. Only seemed to start with the recent cold mornings. Any clues before getting it diagnosed. Thanks for any ideas. Sparky 100. Read more
Stop this random checking of stuff.
As much fun as it is, it's almost impossible on modern stuff....
Is this the silliest thing ever.

Re the lack of police, I'd assume this kind of thing could be enforced semi-automatically via CCTV/speed camera stylee remote sensing, plod participation free, so the offender just gets a picture of their illegal lights through the post along with a fine....
Good morning,
We may be purchasing a new car over the next month or so. Likely to be either a Hyundai or a Kia. It will be a cash purchase and unlikely to have a part exchange. I have never ordered a brand new car before so just wondered what the process is. I appreciate all dealers won't be the same but just wondered what the norms are. To be honest I dont enjoy the car buying experience. Especially now they are so expensive. ... Read more
Thanks. I have had a look again at the deals on Carwow and Autotrader. Only for the Stonic though as this is my wife's favoured choice (for today anyway). In both cases I think our location goes against us. We live in the South East.
On Carwow we don't get any responses from Kia dealers anywhere near local to us. The nearest ones are about two hours or more away. Plus once you factor in the cash price plus a metallic paint (we don't want a solid yellow) we are virtually at the same price point as our local dealers. ...
Hi all.
For the second time my garage has charged for diesel fuel additive during a full service (helps keep the exhaust and emissions system clean supposedly)... Trouble is that I've fitted a locking fuel cap with a separate key that wasn't handed over at either service.. ... Read more
Did the invoice emerge from a computer controlled printer? Service invoices probably say almost exactly the same thing, so the printer might be made to print out the details of all the tasks with just a very few keystrokes. In my previous life as a GP much time was saved by such elementary programming. For instance, I could create a detailed record of a common problem and a printed prescription with merely a couple of clicks from my 'favourites' list. The problem for a big garage is the person doing the service might not be the same person operating the printer.

You can check your engine mounts wheather it's loose or not which can cause clicking noise in high r.p.m.
Have you also check you exhaust issues or is there any turbo-related fault??
