Hi, I am absolutely new to the mechanic world, but have been reading and learning a lot.
Yesterday I changed the fuel filter of my Vito W638, and it didn't start anymore. I also disassembled the EGR to see how dirty it was, to discover it had a "plug" to make it not to work.... Read more
I am struggling to find the new tax rate for my vehicle from April. Its current tax class is PLG and the current VED is £345. I am worried it will jump significantly once the new rates are introduced next year but cannot find any info on PLG class Read more

Certainly good advice here to shop around, I had a look at the other big garage chain around here (Protyre) and some similar examples showing up in my size. Something called Runway for £77.35/corner vs Good Year EfficientGrip 2 at £89/corner. ...
Hi,
I’ve read lots of posts on this and would love some advice, there is a particular post from Middleman that points towards thiswhich was a very helpful read but not sure which tack I take…
I have received 2 charges on the SJPN, firstly the failure to provide information and secondly the speeding notice itself.
I have never received anything and knew nothing about it until now (genuinely)…
However I have read that they are not likely to go with the deal (accept speeding notice if failure to provide is removed) just because it wasn’t received.
I have also had a speeding fine previously and have paid immediately, leaving something so serious is not in my nature.
However, this year has been an incredibly tough year with my father being seriously ill with cancer and managing many 6 hour trips to visit, we also have adopted twin 8 year olds, one with many special needs and I probably don’t need to justify why our life is hectic right now….
Not sure which to mention and whether to go for the deal…
Any advice very much appreciated. Read more

Where have you read that? One of he most common reasons for offering the "deal" is just that....

I was fearing that! fiddly job to take apart so I've heard.
Seem to be a dissenting voice ( surely not) on a boating forum about the use of a motorcycle brake hose to replace a hard steel oil line on Yanmar 1GM and 2GM marine diesel engines.

I think this is quite risky, because these hoses wont be built for and tested long term with hot mineral oil, but I dont actually know what the flexible core is usually made of, or how much this varies.
If its a flourocarbon plastic I suppose it might be OK, but if its rubber (and I know there are A LOT of different rubbers), maybe not so much.
The proposer of this fix has responded stating the lining is teflon, and if that's always the case I suppose my concerns are probably unfounded... Read more
Flexible pipes in braking systems are lined with EPDM rubber which resists brake fluid.
EPDM is not to be used for mineral oils....

It's a bit more than 'adding up the sums', unless you are seriously strapped for cash. If you have had the car long enough to trust it and become attached to it, repair is probably the way forward if you are only arguing about a few hundred quid. Insurers usually send repair jobs to a preferred repairer, while you may know of a reputable one nearer home than theirs.
My car (the one I still have) was written off 8 years ago. The damage was largely cosmetic (car still driveable) and I had it repaired locally for about £250 more than the payout I got., and I didn't have to go through the hassle of finding another If you are tempted to do that, make sure your insurer hasn't gone too far with arrangements.

If it’s only an advisory, there can’t be much wrong with it. If it’s a multi bulb light , then only 50% of it needs to work for a mot pass .

Service schedules indicate otherwise. My last diesel specified a diesel filter change every B service.
