Seem to be a dissenting voice ( surely not) on a boating forum about the use of a motorcycle brake hose to replace a hard steel oil line on Yanmar 1GM and 2GM marine diesel engines.

I think this is quite risky, because these hoses wont be built for and tested long term with hot mineral oil, but I dont actually know what the flexible core is usually made of, or how much this varies.
If its a flourocarbon plastic I suppose it might be OK, but if its rubber (and I know there are A LOT of different rubbers), maybe not so much.
The proposer of this fix has responded stating the lining is teflon, and if that's always the case I suppose my concerns are probably unfounded... Read more

It's a bit more than 'adding up the sums', unless you are seriously strapped for cash. If you have had the car long enough to trust it and become attached to it, repair is probably the way forward if you are only arguing about a few hundred quid. Insurers usually send repair jobs to a preferred repairer, while you may know of a reputable one nearer home than theirs.
My car (the one I still have) was written off 8 years ago. The damage was largely cosmetic (car still driveable) and I had it repaired locally for about £250 more than the payout I got., and I didn't have to go through the hassle of finding another If you are tempted to do that, make sure your insurer hasn't gone too far with arrangements.
Hi all, my OSR tail light (single filament) flashes with rear indicator/hazard lights. Its dull, but its definitely flashing with indicator!
Ive swapped bulbs over with NSR, and same thing happens!... Read more
If it’s only an advisory, there can’t be much wrong with it. If it’s a multi bulb light , then only 50% of it needs to work for a mot pass .
My car is a DFSK Glory 580. There is no anti-freeze (corrosion inhibitor) in the radiator system and I wish to add some.
According to the basic specs sheet the type of anti-freeze required indicates FD-20. I have a locally produced anti-freeze water mixed (green) which is 10 -20% Monoethyleneglycol. Will it be safe to use this and what is the quantity that I should use?... Read more
There seems to be no reason to expect 'better' corrosion protection with higher concentration of anti-freeze ?
Simplistically I would expect exactly that, but, since I don't know how it works, I could very easily be wrong....

Isn't the service logged on-line now? A stamped book is easy to forge anyway, I would prefer to see invoices.
Problem with service books is that unless you left yours on the passenger seat (for example) often no-one remembered to stamp it - and if you handed it in at reception it might get lost in the office. If the on-line entry is forgotten it's much harder for the customer to [a] be aware and [b] do anything about it until a reminder may come a year later ?
Hi, does anyone know what are the best obd scanners are at a reasonable price. I’ve seen one which is a v519 which sounds ok on websites but just wondering if anyone has any experience of it. Thanks for any replies. Sparky 100. Read more
Generic OBD scanners are just that, generic - much better to get one specific to your car brand, eg the Ross-Tech VCDS for Volkswagens.
A family member has a 10+ year old A6 3.0 TDI quattro with the 7 speed DSG. The box I think will be a DQ500/0BH
It appears to be suffering from clutch slip on the even gears which is why I think it's the clutch pack. It's 10+ years old with something like 70,000 miles.
Suggestion is that if it's 'only' the clutch it might cost £2,500 + to replace. Replacement clutch packs on a quick search see to be around £700, which suggests this is a very labour intensive job.
Should it really be so expensive? Read more
Yes , Quattro more to take apart and about 8-10 hrs labour .
Thank you.

You have every right to take it back and ask for a full refund. They have no right to decline.
