Was going to reply to the earlier thread but the Mods locked it before I got the chance because of comments by one poster.

Why do the Mods do this, surely they should simply remove the post rather than locking the tread, it cannot be that hard. More people (including myself) may have had valuable comments to make.... Read more

Hey. Thanks to all who commented on my previous post. I have acquired a C70 convertible which I'll be using during the spring/summer, (have a Toyota Carina for the other seasons). My question relates to the automatic transmission fluid on the Volvo. The car is very smooth shifting, but there is no history of the fluid ever being changed. The car is nearly 20 years old. A famous American youtuber called Scotty Kilmer has said that changing transmission fluid on an old car when it's never been done before could lead to problems with the transmission shifting properly. Do you agree, or should I change the fluid? Thank you, Alfie

<< Andrew you're winding me up i think, good one though :-) I of course am referring to sump in this case as the gearbox sump. >>

Sorry, GB, it wasn't a wind-up. I thought a gearbox was just that, with gear oil in it - no 'sump' as such ?...

Can anyone comment if breakdowns data held by the big recovery companies is available to the public?

There's an interesting YouTube channel run by a mobile mechanic who specialises in DPFs and related issues, he gives a real insight into how diesel emission systems work and how the majority of main dealers and other mechanics don't understand them.

Well worth a look, especially for owners of vehicles with the JLR V6 diesel: www.youtube.com/@ORileysAutos/videos Read more

AIUI, commercial vehicles DPFs can be cleaned successfully, not so with passenger vehicles.

I love this programme but just wondered how that guy can change the brakes without getting a spot of dirt on his white t shirt when I get covered in oil just pulling the dipstick out! Read more

I seem to remember that Ed China did do a proper job: that may be why he left as the powers that be thought this was not very entertaining. ...

Hi hope to get some advice please, my van battery was flat over this winter so I purchased one of those power pack jump starts from amazon. It worked and got me going. Then two weeks after I was driving and electrics went off, engine was still running I wasn't far from home so managed to get it back home even though power steering went off. Whilst this was happening all warning lights started coming on until eventually they were all on. Once I got home I turned engine off, then tried to restart it but it just made a ticking noise and wouldn't start, it has been Christmas holidays and havnt needed it so left it 3 days before looking into it. So 3 days later I tried too start van and it started first time everything working as normal so I'm confused and looking for advice on what the problem could be before driving it again. Hope someone can help me. Thanks Read more

OK thanks, so this would mean new alternator needed if it's below this? I just don't understand why if it is alternator why would it start first turn of the key 3 days later?. Thanks for your reply.

Could just be a slipping belt. Or, as already suggested, a wiring issue. For the latter case you could use your digital multimeter to do voltage drop testing, which can help you locate the fault....

Hi Guys,

I was thinking of buying a Skoda Karoq 1.5tsii, but read on a different thread that the VAG group 1.5 tsi engines have knocking in first gear.
I read about a software update being rolled out, did it resolve the issue?

I am specifically talking about the manuals.

Just wanted to confirm before meeting my money on the 1.5

Cheers
