After many years on a multi car policy (not always the same company) this year it was worth splitting into 3 policies, saving over 10%. Interesting that the most expensive policy I kept with the same company with no penalty after removing 2 cars. Total smoke and mirrors I think, or a benefit of renewing just before the pricing rules change? Read more

Re-did our Muticar (2 cars) a couple of weeks ago after getting quotes elsewhere (multicar and individual). Our existing company (Aviva multicar) was the best quote and that was over £200 less than the best individual price.

The annoying thing (as always) is the renewal quote seems expensive but if you ring up instead of simply renewing on-line you get a discount. Ours dropped by £50 for the cost of a 0800 phone call.

Dunno if anyone else feels the same but its seems to me that more vehicles than ever are driving to the limit of the ACPO guidelines.

My reasoning - Despite having a GPS speed indicator in my car I will normally set my speed limiter or cruise to the specified limit for a bit of margin, however sometimes I will push the speed up so the GPS indicates the specifies speed. In a 50 limit in my car this is normally 53mph on the speedo, 50mph on the GPS. Even at that increased speed cars and lorries are passing at a good few mph faster than me. Given that in a 50 limit ACPO guidelines allow a true speed of 57mph, that would be around 60mph on most speedos, I reckon that is is the limit that is being pushed by more drivers than ever these days.... I had always thought that the tacho's on lorries would be accurate and that explains why lorries can legally pass a car doing 50mph on their speedo. Thanks for confirming.

As I've said above, in 50mph average speed zones when driving at a gps speed of 50mph cars and lorries are flying past. Presumably pushng the 56mph ACPO guidelines. That was the basis of my OP....

I boil the coolant in situ (into a funnel fitted tightly into the rad fill port) by running the engine with the fan disabled.

I suppose this will degas it, though I do it to remove air pockets rather dissolved oxygen....

He mentioned a cutoff date beyond which IC engines will actually be banned. Not no longer produced, but actually prohibited from use. Think it was 2050, IIRC

I understood that to mean fossil fuelled engines, there was talk of turning them into Hydrogen fuelled engines, which imo would make sense and keep them going as they will be clean for the atmosphere ...

Demand has pushed the prices up so if demand drops the prices will come down. Customers buying now could take a hit when it comes to selling cars on in the next year or so. Read more

Of course the trade are going to say prices will remain high! They’ll say that because they don’t want to catch a falling knife when the market crashes. Why will it crash? Simple, the cost of living is going through the roof and people will simply hang on to their car as they won’t be able to afford to replace it. Combined with the increased availability of new cars, the used car market will crash. If you wait 6-12 months, it will have returned to normal.

Anyone who has worked through a winter in Moscow will remember that it was common practice to remove the car battery in temperatures of minus 20 and take them indoors.

The Zoe did much worse for occupant protection in the most recent test than it did the time before.

Reading a bit into what's changed in the test method, they have added a "being crashed into by a big SUV" test, which I suspect is where it may have done less well if it wasn't designed for that test. Interestingly, there is also something on the Top Gear website news section about this which says that Renault have changed the seat mounted side airbag and made the protection less good than an earlier version. A bit of slightly unwise cost cutting perhaps?
