Could anyone recommend a rat trap for indoor use? I'd rather use a device that kills instantly than poison. Read more

There are special glue traps for indoor usage. We catch all mice this way.

How do you despatch a live mouse stuck on one (or do you just let them starve to death)?...

Many years ago, I lived with my parents in a terraced house. In front of the houses were three parking bays. My father told me that there was a dark line in the road in front of all three parking bays and that depicted the parking bays behind the line as classed as private land. I now live in a block of flats and there was a line similar to the one at the old property in front of nine parking bays until they resurfaced the road and covered this line over. Was my father correct in saying that this line depicts private land? Read more

My road has 3 small residents' car parks. Each car park is divided into a number of bays (2 per house). The markings on the tarmac have long since worn away, but the title deeds has a map which shows which house owns which spaces by annotating them with the same plot numbers as the house plots. Not every house in the road has spaces in the car parks, but some of their occupants either don't know that, or don't care and park there anyway. The road itself was adopted by the council, but the car parks remain private property.

Had a great day out at Hendon yesterday visiting the RAF museum.

Walking around the Lancaster, and the Avro Vulcan was a joy, and seeing in the flesh the various smaller planes that feature in some of the books i have been reading over the years was intersesting too. a few old cars and support vehicles to see as well, also a lot of" modern" kit, Lightnings etc on show.... If you’re ever up north, I can recommend a visit to Elvington air museum, among other aircraft, they have the victor tanker “ lusty lindy “ , not sure if they still do it but they used to fire it up every so often and give it a blast down the runway, once it managed to partially take off but as it’s no longer airworthy, they had to shut it down pretty quickly, I’ve been to shuttleworth, and bovington, and thoroughly enjoyed them both,

The new rules should be welcomed, and should be extended to other services such as breakdown assistance providers who offer attractive introductory rates and then massively increase them at renewal.

Once new and existing policy holders are treated equally there should be less need to shop around, although it will still be wise to check that premiums are competitive before renewing. People who allow their policies to renew automatically are simply lazy. Read more

“Roll em over lay ‘em down and do it again” is the chorus of an old 1950s ditty

Still applies to lots of insurance, not just car and breakdown insurance

D&G operate our Worster Bosch boiler cover, and tried to increase the premium from £21 to £28 per month recently. When challenged they dropped it back to the £18 we were charged when we first took out the cover 5 years ago ! I think this was a D&G scam, rather than WB.

Actual W-B cover is very good btw, they have replaced almost everything on this 16 year old boiler over the years within the subscription fee, so no complaints there .

Some insurers make a point of reminding customers what their last year’s premium was with the renewal notice; a very good practice in my view which all should adopt.

I don’t auto-renew any of my insurance policies, everybody needs to beg for my business !

Hi all. Having a problem with my 2014 2.0 TDI BMT Passat.

Just this morning a loud clicking noise has appeared when the heating or aircon is on. The noise appears to be coming from the drivers side, near the pedals.

Online research suggests that this is a faulty blend door actuator / air recirc flap motor.

Any video I have looked at on YouTube is for a LWD and doesn't fill a novice like me with confidence.

Would any kind soul offer advice on how to fix this on a RWD? Money is low so near Xmas so want to avoid the garage if possible (been told its easy to fix lol) Read more

Could it be a leaf drawn in through the plenum chamber? Lift your bonnet and have you lots of leaves at the back of the engine bay?

In the index list for this forum it shows the date & time of the latest reply for each topic, but when I look in the actual topics often those posts are not always visible. This has been happening for about 2-3 days. I have tried different browsers on Linux, Mac and Android and they are all having the same issue.

Is anyone else experiencing this, or is it just me? Read more

I did a bit of testing earlier and it looks like this problem is fixed. Please comment in this thread if you find there's still a problem.

Came upon this great video clip on Youtube showing a ratty but otherwise standard looking (except for the roll bar) 1948(!) Willy's Jeep negotiating a couple of fairly extreme off-road situations.

Will WBAC take care with a noticeable judder? My focus judders and I've already paid out for a clutch replacement several years ago.

Have people had problems selling Focus with these powershift issues?

Hi all, this car has a new battery, but the starting problems continue, particularly after a run, although no messages or warning lights on dash.

Is it possible the alternator is faulty, but not SO faulty that it doesn't throw a dash light, or error code?... Read more

refurbed alternator was £110, fitted for £50, battery was dead though, so needed a charge, other than the alternator, fine since!

Driving home in early evening gloom the vast majority of cars had their headlights on. Those who didn't were relatively new. I wondered if they were on automatic.

Then it is not your decision to put on lights but a rigid decision making system.... Read more

The DRLs on my car (VW Group) are, as far as I can tell, the dipped headlights. Also the tail lights are on all the time too. That seems like the sensible solution and it should become standard practice in the motor industry.

I never have understood why some cars come with 'side' lights on only and then the tail lights only come on when the dipped front headlights are on. Do the manufacturers think drivers want to only be seen from the front?
