Hi All, hope your 2020 is finally calming down. I need help to choose a good reliable car. I currently drive a Peugeot 308 1.6lt diesel and I want to stick with the diesel models. I have 1500 to spend atm and with the repairs i need on the 308 i might as well get a new car.
So my question, what car can I get with a reliable largish engine for £1500-£2000, whats best to avoid and whats best to look for. i have a Honda Civic 2.2 in mind but i keep reading about bad clutch and it costs a lot to fix. ... Read more
If you've been fairly happy with the 308 size-wise, I'd look for an older 307 with the 2L 90bhp diesel engine.
There's a few around which are still fairly low mileage, cheap to run and much more reliable than the 1.6 diesel which was fitted to later models and the 308....
You are all f***ing t***s you really f***ing are stupid f***ing idiots

I've now disabled his account and will watch closely in case he comes back under another alias.
And changed title heading in the first post which doesn't look good on a public forum.
We are looking to sell a used car privately in Scotland and I'm wondering what people are doing with regard to advertising and test drives.
We initially said no test drives in the ads, but we would demonstrate the car running and could video a drive but we've had little interest even at a decent price.... Read more
Nobody is going bother with all that hassle. What are you going to do if someone test drives the car and decides they don't want it?. How are you going to sterilise the car for the next prospective customer?. How are you going to hold their licences, proof of insurance and indeed money, without touching it or contaminating any of these items in any way?.
If you really need rid of the car now, We Buy Any Car (or similar) is the only sensible option (assuming they are trading during the lockdown?)...
An MG by badge only and made by those nice (just ask Hong Kong) people in China - why on earth would you buy one Read more
When the Chinese have bankrupted the rest of their competition they can then up the prices and hold the rest of the world to ransom. While our manufacturing industry turns to being just distributors of Chinese manufactured goods. Unfortunately most people think cheap is good, reviews of products hardly ever mention that the PRC made the item, and the British company that is selling the item had nothing to do with the manufacturing of it. Rarely there are some British designers, but these then get labeled as "Designed and Engineered in Britain" with a Union Jack, no mention that the Chinese made it! Many people still think we manufacture these goods, plus the fact that a great deal of the products are just genetic models that established British companies sell as if they made it. My neighbour bought his MG thinking it was at least assembled in Britain.
I don't see how the Chinese support of thousands of jobs in the UK is warranted, long term the aim is to eliminate the competition. Buy up the British brand and then transfer any production to China, wake up!
Scrappage for Electric vehicles. Same old story but getting worse.
Those who can afford relatively expensive electric vehicles are already subsidised by the tax payer to the tune of up to £3000 in the form of a grant.. So those who pay tax, but can't afford one, help pay the grant for better off purchasers. As a Social Care Worker (think "key worker") on the huge rate of pay of £9.05 an hour AND a tax payer, I would willingly pay even more tax to help the rich to drive a car I can't afford.... Read more
Yea, like THE DARTFORD RIVER CROSSING ,I.e. the QE2 BRIDGE, when it recuperate its build cost, it will be free to use, what a joke, and I believe it's operated by a French company. This country doesn't invest in anything that will benefit this country.
Three zone climate control?! Presumably the other two 'zones' are the glove box and the boot, as to be of any real use, an air conditioning 'zone' has to be fully partitioned off from all the others.
Are going to get an 'A/C zone war', rather like the 'which manufacturer can build the mens' razor with the most blades' or the car with the lowest profil tyres, or such and such?
Utterly ridiculous. All that happens is that you get a small localised difference in temperature on the person's skin and the system fights itself all the time. Read more
Three zone climate control has been out for years.
We have had 2 cars with 2 zone climate control and its pretty pointless. In a space like the inside of a car the air will mix virtually instantly and all the passengers will get the same temp. Giving rear seat passengers a different temp will never work since they get all their air from the front anyway (unless they have individual vents and a glass screen).
We always press the button that links the 2 zones together, if you don't you have to make 2 adjustments which can be a pain when driving.
With Covid they may give us all special temperature regulated suits to isolate us in the future.
Not surprising, the service from dealers is shocking, they couldn't give a f*** about customers. Buying a new car is a painful experience. Read more
If you do not buy cars built in the UK we will have no car manufacturing left, with 10,000's on the dole. France looks after it's workers, Spain looks after it's workers, Italy looks after it's workers etc UK government doesn't give a s*** and forks out billions of taxpayers money in benefits. Just think the difference all that money would make invested in manufacturing, ensuring a future for our children and our childrens' children.
It's about time the government started to turn the economy around from a service industry to a manufacturing base. Do you really need apprenticeships for McDonalds, Costa, Starbucks etc.
Think before you buy this car it's not built in the UK despite having a Vauxhall badge.
Has the cost of a barrel increased? Oil Co's have us over a barrel! Read more
No surprise at all to me.
These greedy lot from the Oil Barons to the Supermarkets, they shouted a lot about the drop in fuel prices during the lockdown knowing full well that the vast majority of people were unable to take advantage of the cuts due to being cooped up and not allowed out!
This tells me, the same greedy lot will have reserves of fuel not used up and therefore obtaining MORE greed money at the expense of us motorists.
Lo and behold, now we are free to drive our cars for pleasure, they have hiked up the prices!!
GREED, GREED and more GREED!!
Nowt changes.
