Can't believe everything you read but you may only be able to buy electric or hydrogen cars by 2035. Dosen't need a crystal ball to see the huge problems coming. Read more
I seem to remember there is an a 'wizard' on this forum with regards to electrics and electronics for vehicles. I have a Volvo XC60 D4. From new, 3 years ago. I had a Silent Witness dash cam installed and hard wired. The mounting is just right of the mirror cluster, fixed to the windscreen. The camera will detach from its triangular mounting. It is the most disappointing piece of equipment I have had the misfortune to buy. Difficult to use, no instructions at all. You have to go online and download all sorts of stuff even just to playback on your laptop. Has been temperamental and now the residual battery does not hold charge so when detached it is dead. I am fed up and simply and want to ditch it and replace it. This presents two problems. Firstly what to change it for? Then secondly i suppose the mounting will be exclusive and therefore useless for a replacement. But can the wiring and same position be utilised? The current location is ideal and unobtrusive with no wiring on show at all. Any comments from personal experience would be welcomed.

Too true GB. The warning bells started early when I was told I had to 're-format' the device every few weeks. Also had to buy and install a 28bit SD card for more video storage. No instructions so after the demo I had to go online. Their website is confusing and apparently not all laptops can download their software to read the camera footage. They have their own software which is not generally compatible with a lot of kit. All in all a bit of a mess. The camera worked well, but now plays up. The images were clear and sharp but everything else about Silent Witness is a nightmare. Do not go near one unless you are a techy or in the trade, they are not user friendly which really is the prime requisite for anything sold to the public. I will change it as soon as I can.

More batteries needed which contain rare metals, most of which come from the Congo. These minerals are extracted by people working under slave labour type conditions. Where's the lefty howl of outrage about that then? Oh, silly me, it's all about climate change and any sins can be excused. Read more
This my fav car I really this one Best SEO services in delhi
A few days back I posted in a thread (can't remember which one) that the Mazda USA website revealed their cars there are fitted with Telematic Control Units which are activated by Mazda before delivery and thereafter automatically transmit a vast amount of data back to Mazda. This covers both the functioning of the car and your driving, including GPS data. As there is nothing equivalent mentioned on the Mazda UK website I asked them about my car and received this reply.
Although UK cars currently contain a Telematics Control Unit (TCU) which works in conjunction with the eCall system, there is currently no data being collected by the vehicle and transmitted to Mazda. Our 7th generation vehicles will have this capability pre-installed as a dormant feature that can be activated in the future if required. This will enable Mazda to collect diagnostic data from the vehicle and provide enhanced services to ensure customers receive the very best service. However, the architecture to support this is still under development and our current understating is that this feature will not be in place until 2021; where a suitable privacy policy will then be available.... Don't think mine is phoning home much, but in the UK video camera surveillance is probably sufficient for a yes to your title question without any on-board micro-moles..
I keep looking at reliability survey's on cars on various sites many of which contradict eachother. does anyone know much about reliabilityindex.com Read more
As far as reliability is concerned my choice would be the Toyota Yaris Mk 1 built in Japan.
Bought an auto on a Y plate for dil three years ago . No service record and it’s been totally faultless....
There's a bad rattle in the dash, about behind the radio/wheel just below the windscreen. As if there's a loom or fitting come loose. It's got to the can't-stand-this-any-longer stage, even the Mrs is finding it annoying.
I've been upside-down in both footwells and can't see or feel anything. I'm fairly sure it's not in the engine compartment.... Read more
I think I would be looking in the engine bay , up near the bulkhead, wiper linkage area .
Hi guys new member her
I am just after some opinions of what you think my Insurance company is probably going to do to my car.
The backstory:
I parked my car at work which is tesco and they have signs which say the don't accept liability which is fine. Between 8am and 12pm my car got damaged although the third party went and spoke to the security guys instore and left me a note with their details and signed for accepting full responsibility of the damage. The damage in total was 2 hard plastic bollards took out, a dent to my passenger side door and a cracked bumper and a knocking sound from somewhere behind the wheel even though the wing is fine apart from some minor scratches.
Because of the damage to my car and the age of the car which is a 62 plate fiesta 1.4 tdci zetec do you think they will replace the parts or call it a write off?
Thanks for your reply. Read more
Then I would suggest the insurance company would deem it as beyond economical value and give it the lowest write off rating.
Which if that is so means you will get scrap value but can continue to drive it providing it is safe to drive, so I would ask the insurance company about the category if they decide to not repair it....
Hello everyone! I’m new here...
Apologies for new topic, hope it’s okay, got issues with my ford.
it’s 2.0 TDCI 59 plate
She’s done high mileage 230K, had her for two years no issues whatsoever, in fact received plenty of compliments about how mint she’s been going .
(cambelt replacement, full service done, MOT’d few months ago)
Since two days she’s got loss power, as soon as I press accelerator fuel consumption goes from roughly 7l/100 to 32-40, surprisingly when on cruise control fuel consumption goes right down.
No smoke coming out, oil filled, no lights on dashboard , unplugged battery overnight to reset computer- tested on OBD today - no codes) car starts on first turn of the key, other than being sluggish no other issues. Doesn’t overheat either. No sounds from the engine or so.
any ideas what it could be?
I’m worried it might be turbo failing... or injectors ?
She’s a brilliant car, never failed gotta admit I struggle financially (just sorting my move up north etc) ... any advice would be appreciated!

If you have a laptop I recommend Forscan. You need an Elm OBD connector and Cd or download. Can get it all on internet auction sites.
It's great. Buy one and see what error messages you get. Only cost about £10
The 30 year old lump of wood that I put between my jacking points and trolley jack has finally split. now that I have got over the loss I was wondering if anyone makes a suitable replacement ?
I hate to see various tyre fitters simply stuff a trolley jack under my cars and jack away without any regard for my paint / sills / jacking points. Read more
i've a rubber from the rear suspension leg . fits my 76 year old Bradbury trolley jack perfectly.

Apparently the government (in the form of Grant Shapps) is considering bringing forward the ban from 2035 to 2032. This might be a case of pushing on an open door because a lot of manufacturers will probably only make electric cars by then anyway.
