2 weeks ago I had my car booked in with Nissan dealer to major service (£269), air bag recall and MOT. Picked it up, paid for service booked stamped,, passed MOT no advisories, said all done.

Then I had a call last week to say they hadn't serviced it or checked air bag recall even though they'd charged me and stamped my book. So they can and picked it up today, which they did. No offer of goodwill gesture or courtesy car but they did pick it up from home. Then they called to say the brake pads and rear wiper blade needs changing. The brakes will cost £156.

I said why wasn't it advised during mot, he said it was noted down and it's probably on your advisories which if wasn't. I told them I want them to pay for it because either they are charging me for something that doesn't need doingg or they should have put in on an advisory. They agreed to do the work free of charge in the end and I now have the car back, I also said I need the car back to take it to quick for 2pm as the middle part of exhaust needs changing. He said cancel quick fit then and we'll also do that. Then he phoned to say they wouldn't do the exhaust because quick fit hadn't done it properly to take it back to them.

Also I had phoned them yesterday before the service to ask if they could do the middle section of the exhaust while they had it today (had the back box done a quick fit but still making a bad noise and quick fit said middle probably needs doing) but Nissan said they wouldn't get the part in time.

The man who collected my car for the belated service this morning said at that's rubbish and they could've easily got it in!

The way I look at it 2 weeks ago they had it in for mot, service and air bag recall. They only full filled one thing the mot which they left off the advisories.

Do you think I should complain higher up? I wouldn't if they'd offers a good will gestures to start with. Read more

Firstly,I would say poor show from the dealer, but looks like you have a mixed bag of issues here. The rear wiper is not tested as part of the mot. Also the brake pads would need to be very low for an mot advisory. The exhaust system leak is not Nissan,s fault.Take it back to quick whoever. You have had the work done for nothing,so fair play on their behalf.Take the car elsewhere next time.Find a good recommend independent garage.

My Citroen C5 had dual mass wheel failed make noise, gargae said. On my service history the previous owner had fit new DMF at 56,000miles then again at 92,000 miles. Now it is my turn at 140,000 miles so that is aprrox every 40,000 miles that's how long DMF is last must be the weight of car. I have read lots of people have DMF failed is not so reliable is prefer to replace to solid flywheel. When I use to own Peugeot 306 2.0HDI 90 it has got a solid flywheel which I never had a issue from 70,000 miles till 245,000 miles on the clock. So it make me wonder if I took off from Peugeot 406 2.0HDI with 90bhp which has got a solid flywheel and swap to my Citroen C5 to stop get other problem in the future.

What is advantage and disadvantage of Solid and DMF?... Read more

There is an official Peugeot DMF to SMF kit available for the 110bhp 1.6 engines, I think its for the 307.

Anyone got any experience in using brake fluid testers. Dealer says fluid needs changing every 2 years as per manufacturer, but surely would it be better to test it and decide based on result if it needs changing. seen a Laser one for about £20. Is it worth checking and deciding if it needs changing or just change anyway every 2 years ? Read more

However the stuff in my separate clutch reservoir was well outside tolerance after ten years of never being changed!

I shouldn't worry. It would probably work as well with just Blu-col. The fluid in my 1980 TR7 clutch reservoir was only completely changed in 2011 when it needed a new clutch.

I'm skeptical - why would a tyre manufacturer advise car owners to run their tyres for longer and thus reduce sales....unless their tyres are going to wear quicker from now on! Read more

Beware.
Continental appear to have reduced tread depth on premium eco 6 even Further , was 8mm, then latest reports 6.7mm.

Just purchased two new tyres checked tread depth at new, and its down to 5mm.

I have asked the Garage for a explanation.

Three year ago I was convinced by everyone to change my 2.0 ltr auto diesel to a new economical 1.6 auto diesel I still need space so peugeot eHdi came up as a car goes it's ok the gearbox is a total disaster area the egc automated manual is crap! Never again.

But the worst thing about it my Skoda superb always retuned 45 mpg running around town and some motorway and 62 on a run of200 motorway miles. The pug best mpg to date is 40.2 mpg.mostly it's around 35 mpg I got more from a petrol 2.2 2002 Vauxhall omega auto. This car has been a total disaster when it come to economy.if you do any sort of motorway travel you can for get economy the engine is under powered and the car to heavy put 4 people and luggage in her and it drinks diesel like a Scot drinks free whisky quickly and lots of it!... what are peoples thoughts on where i stand? i left my 2010 ford focus diesel in to get serviced. when i went to collect it the guy was going in about the turbo not working. i said i had no problems with this before and he said to go see what it was like. i picked the car up half an hour before he closed for weekend. the car had no turbo whatsoever and within 15 miles the engine management light came on so i drove it home easy and there was a terrible burning oil smell. i phoned him and took it down the next morning and now he wants to "try" things to fix starting with and egr fix costing about £200 for part alone. my ? is who do you think should pay for this? i never had any issues before the car went in for service. thanks Read more

JohnF, that video you mention is from the bottom right half of the link page i think (turbo failures?), interesting though it is, have you clicked on the bottom left, the PDF file, the Inner Hell of the Diesel of Doom it could have been titled.

The pics remind me of the black death from years ago, which seems to be making a reappearance.

Avoid any car that's not been serviced EVERY year. This is particularly important on modern turbocharged engines. If this has the 1.6 PSA diesel in it it's best avoided anyway. It's a notoriously fragile engine.

It's common for leasing firms to offload cars this age in this way, it's the main source of stock for non franchise dealers who sell nearly new motors plus it's not the original leasing firm to blame for the skipped service. The seller bought it in 2015 as a 1yr old car which was due its first service. They bought the car cheaply at auction then they dodged the cost of its annual service and now plan to offload it privately for more than they would get in part ex. I'd walk.

If you're knowledgeable enough you could go to a lease disposal sale yourself and bag a bargain. Make sure it's been serviced in accordance to the manufacturers guidelines and any car under three years old will still have its warranty to back you up which takes a lot of the risk away.

Don't try it if you don't know what you're doing and don't buy a 1.6 diesel Ford, unless you're buying nearly new and offloading before the warranty is up. Even at that, the trade know all about the problems this engine suffers from and value it accordingly used.

Did the older Octavia have a 75bhp engi e at some point? Wow - that must've been a really slow car! Even the 122bhp version wouldn't be that swift, given how big the Octavia is.
