Oh well, here we go again..the dreaded HDI engine....this may be a new one though after reading ALL the other posts!!
Here goes. I bought the car with the engine in bits as the head gasket had gone. Reassembled the engine and then eventually got the damn thing running.
Whomever had butchered it took things off that didn't need taking off, so starting the engine called up many fault codes.
Cleared all the fault codes using a cheap code reader (won't do codes with P1 0r P2). Tried starting the car loads of times before taking it for it's MOT. Ran the car to the garage, parked outside, waited for the test, the car wouldn't start and to this day hasn't since!!!
Checked with the fault code reader and no faults apart from the heater circuit (which I've since mended).
To ensure that faults were still being read, I disconnected the HP rail sensor and sure enough, it came up with P0190.
Still, even though I know that you shouldn't mess with the HP side, have loosened the couplings to make sure there's diesel at the injectors, and, there is!.
So, if anyone has any thoughts.....Please please please, give me a clue.
For further reference, the injectors have only done 2,000 miles and the pump in the tank is getting supply and pumping.
Thanks for any help in advance.

Um. The spray-can by-passes the immobilizer since it goes through the air intake and not the fuel pump. So I'm at a loss. Might be worth checking the cambelt is still on OR whatever contraption they decided the Hdi needed instead of a cambelt.
Diesels were supposed to be uncomplicated/easy to maintain. It makes me mad that they still call them diesels with all this computerised crap attached! Ooops ranting.

Anyway, turn a diesel fast enough, with jumpstart/easystart going in and it'll have to go unless the engine is completely broke.

Hi All,

I have a 2006 307SW 1.6 petrol with 55k on the clock.

It runs fine, no error codes are present, but.. most times, not all, it's lumpy at idle. The rev counter doesn't show any variation, sticking at around 700 ish but you can feel it missing a beat. It's got a full Pug service history and was serviced about 4 months ago, I did ask my local main dealer to have a quick look and he said it's fine and even hooked it up to a fault reader which showed nothing. Various sources have told me it could be throttle position sensor, throttle potentiometer, throttle body, hydraulic tappets, blocked jets, dodgy HT lead or plug. So you can see I'm spoilt for choice :-)

Have any of you guys got a "speaking from experience" idea as to what it is or some suggestion as to what to check (idiots guide please).

ps. I already done the BSI reset procedure.

Thanks all Read more

Sounds expensive! any ideas on diagnosis and possible repair costs?

What would cause failure, it's a 3 year old car with full service history, 55k on the clock, surely they should last longer than that.

Also, would this cause an intermittent problem? The idle seems fine when I pull up but gradually gets lumpier the longer it idles, I've also noticed the odd flat spot under acceleration at about 3k revs, although again it's only now and again.

I hate intermittent problems, I think I'd rather have a complete failure, at least you know where you stand.

Hi,

first post to forum so I hope this is correct.

I have a Mazda 6 sport 2ltr 04 reg, which starts fine, but after about 40 minutes, it start losing power, and when I stop at the lights and run in idle the engine management lights come on and it won't rev over 1500 rpm. This is easily cured by reseting battery. The car then sounds like it's missing.

I have taken this to my local mazda dealer, who can find no fault on the computers :-( they have since changed 2 injectors 2/3 and this has not cured the problem either. The car is at a local garage now and they can also not see what is causing the error.

Any help or suggestions would be of great help

But insurance companies are so poor you know, they don't make any money at all, so they have to rip you off left right and center.

More than 25 miles of motorway have been closed in Somerset after a car left the road and struck a pylon.

Motorists have warned of "considerable delays" on the M5 after the crash brought down power cables.

The motorway is shut at Junction 22 northbound and junction 18 Southbound, with exit slip-roads also closed.

Closures are expected to remain in place for much of the day, the Highways Agency said. Diversions are currently being put in place.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said: "Decisions to close the motorway are never taken lightly as police officers are aware of the impact this has on people.

"However, the power cable presents a hazard to any motorists and in the interests of public safety the decision was taken to close the road."

Emergency repairs are due to be carried out by electricity company Southern Power

"At this stage the danger from the power cable is such that it is not safe for other motorists to use the motorway," the police spokesman added. Read more

..My first was red and the current one is cornflower blue...

I bought one earlier this year, apple green with British racing green extremities.

It's mainly for use at my caravan in leafy North Yorkshire, so it's a country Brompton.

Good tool - anyone thinking of a folding bike would be well-advised to consider one.

Hi. The heater fan on my wifes Ford Puma has started running continously. It runs faster on position 4 but seems to run at speed 3 on all other positions including the off position. The temperature control and air conditioning are working ok.
Looking at the diagram there is a wire from the heater control module, but that connects to the position 1 slow fan speed.
Could the heater blower resistor cause this problem? It usually causes the fan to stop working on positions 1 to 3.
Has anyone ever experienced this problem on a Puma or Fiesta?

I disconnected the switch today and all was ok. Checked the wiring ok. Put it back together and connected the resistor and it now works fine. Very strange.

Hi guys,

I have a 2004 2.2 diesel Renault Espace. A couple of years ago (just months out of warrantee) the turbo charger went. I had it replaced by an experienced Renault mechanic but NOT a dealership garage. However, I did opt for the more expensive Renault part rather than a cheaper 'copy' part. Everything seemed fine for a while though the car definitely suffered from more turbo-lag than before. Last winter I started to experience some serious lack of power when pulling away at junctions and roundabouts, and in stop-start traffic. It was especially bad on cold mornings - how I wasn't hit up the rear end on more than one occasion I'll never know! The problem was very intermittent and whenever I asked advice from the Renault service guys or the mechanic I used, nothing could be found. Some days the car would drive fine, other times I'd put my foot to the floor and limp out into a roundabout or busy slip-road like a slug overdosed on Night Nurse. Then, after a few terrifying seconds the turbo would kick in and all would be fine. Eventually this problem seemed to cure itself. Until today.....

Twice today, I have been in stop-start traffic and have put my foot on the gas to pull away, and ....nothing. It's picked up eventually, (foot pumping wildly) but I feel I'm in for another long tough winter of 'roundabout russian roulette' that I don't wish to repeat. Also, (not co-incidentally?) upon switching off the engine, there has been a very loud and alarming noise which sounds not unlike a Boeing 747 about to take off (the cooling system?) which seems to be going into hyper-mode.

I have had the battery, turbo-charger, brake discs and pads replaced on this car, and now I'm told (by Renault) that I may spontaneously combust any day unless I replace the cam belt (as standard procedure) I have done 44,500 miles. Should I get rid now, before this car bankrupts me? Your thoughts and advice will be gratefully digested. Read more
