Neilly

Been looking at the prices in the deal listing of 7th May and am unable to find any of the prices quoted matching the websites listed.

One example £12603 becomes £13578
another
£14840 becomes £15844

Seems bit dishonest if you ask me. But perhaps someone can answer it for me.

Maybe there is something added to the websites prices fro some reason?

Seems odd that they are out by £1000 on some models.

TIA

Neil.

I'm considering buying a new sat nav unit and wonder if its worth the extra premium to have the lane guidance feature?? Does anybody have any experience of using this feature??

Thanks

I've got it on our TomTom 520 and it's handy, makes it a lot easier to glance and see which lane one should be in at a complex junction. Also had a Nissan X-Trail with a similar feature and it was equally useful in that.

Have had to use a TomTom ONE this past couple of weeks on hols and this doesn't have the feature-must say it's the one thing I missed from our unit.

If it's not much more £££ then I'd definitely go for it. I _understand_ that the feature is being retro software updated to the ONE and XL TomToms, but pocketgps.co.uk will give you more info on that

Hi Everyone,

My Dad has a 106 1.5D which is losing coolant. It has only lost 1/4L of coolant over ~2000 miles / 3 months so doesn't seem to be too bad - yet.
It seems to be coming out of either the head gasket or the vaccum pump(?) at the thermostat housing end.

We're currently thinking it is the head gasket that's gone. No emulsion in the coolant so it looks as though it's not getting into the cylinders.
Engine starts instantly as well and no smoke.

Still getting 55-60mgp on a run.

Is there anything else it could be? Read more

I've got a couple photos if they help:

Just to check are you talking about the housing attached to the right of the head that the vaccum for the master cylinder comes off of?

Thanks.

If that's OK check the leads from the battery to the fuses, also check the earth lead from the battery to the engine.

Hi Guys,

Hope you can help me with a minor problem I'm having with my Mondeo Estate. The centre rear seat belt buckle has stopped functioning. I can locate one fairly easily from my local salvage yard, however it is prooving difficult to remove the existing unit. Firstly the buckle is connected to the anchor for the centre belt. I cannot seem to separate the centre belt from it as it seems to be riveted in place. My second idea was to take the seat back out (belts and all) and change the whole unit so that I need not strip anything down. This seems straight forward enough however, my problem is that I cannot remove the base seat cushion to gain access to the buckle retaining screws. It is not the usual hinged type that I have had on most of my previous fords. Instead it seems to be clipped in four places. I had a look in my Haynes manual which just rather helpfully says "remove the bolts" - which I can't find!

Apologies if this is a silly question but can somebody please tell me how to remove the seat cushion as I'm really struggling and I can't really take my family out in the car until I've sorted this problem out. Thanks very much for your time and I hope you can help. Apologies again for what I am sure is probably a very simple oversight by me!

Hi there, having had a little time on my hands last week I managed to spend a little bit of time sorting out the problem. I found out from another website that there is a small release button on the back of the centre buckle to release the centre belt. It is very small (around the same diameter as a paperclip). I used a keyring bent out into wire in order to give the necessary force to push in the release button. I then managed to gain access by pushing the belt buckles through the holes in the seat base and then I was able to pivot back the seat base enough to gain access to the torx bolts holding the bubkle in place without releasing the clips. I managed to source the buckle from a local salvage yard for £6 so it was much cheaper in the end than a new seat back for which I was quoted £25 - £50. I've posted this info in case anyone else has the same problem and I hope it may help.

Many thanks, Paul

Hi

I have a Ford Focus Ghia 1.6 100ps 55 plate vehicle, which I have owned from new with no major problems before.

However since February when driving the car, when slowing down such as approaching a roundabout or climbing a hill, when the revs get to 2000 (sometimes 3000) then the car jumps, like a kangaroo until it disappears by keeping your foot hard on the accelerator.

Just recently the orange warning light appears intermittently on the dashboard when this problem occurs.

Is this a known problem with this type Focus and what could it be?

I have booked it into an Auto Electrician / Garage tomorrow to get some diagnostics done to see if there fault has registered. On the phone they mentioned it could be the coilpack?

Anybody else had this problem, I just wanted to make sure I get an idea of what it might be so I don't get ripped off tomorrow. Read more

Hi All

I have been looking at buying, a Vauxhall Vectra C (1.8 ?Design? 06) and Part Ex my current Astra G (1.6 8v ?52).

While im not saying that im defiinitly going to buy it I would absoloutly love one and am seriously considering purchasing it from our Local Indie Car Sales Garage.

I have been offered £1.5k for the Astra and this Vectra would be £5.5K, its on a 06 plate and has done < 20k miles

I have not had the car out for a drive yet, and will be arranging to do so this Tuesday, the car is in immaculate condition ? I have read the CBC and I just have some concerns, and would be very grateful for opinions.

ASFAIK this will be the 1st car I?ve owned that operates on the ?CAN-BUS? system while I think I get what it is, it likely to give trouble, and what?s the reason for using this system as apposed to the traditional way of operating electrics

I have never had to take my Astra to get its fault codes read, would the Vectra, with it being a lot more complicated going to throw error codes every ten min, or are they generally reliable

I have been reading about parking brakes releasing, is this a common problem that Im likely to experience, as I don?t want to shell out a lot of money to have my car roll into someone?s house or something.

I have been through this forum and found a few topics on where the Dashboards on Vectra?s cut out when starting in cold weather, but these seems to be on older Vectra?s has this problem been contained to the older ones.

What are servicing costs likely to be, is the car to complicated for its own good ? or would it be worth sticking with the Astra, that is relatively easy to work on?

Thanks in Advance this Vectra is lovely and my heart, and my head are battling out with each other over this car.

My brake warning light came on today with an alarm. It went off again after about 30 seconds and then did it again. The manual says to check the brake fluid and check that the Handbrake is off which I've done, the front brakes were done recently on the MoT. Any suggestions as to what may be going on.

Many thanks.

I have started a collection of fragments of coil springs that I find on the roadside during my walks. They are becoming more and more common, and I have visions of a car driving past quickly and throwing one at someone's windscreen.

I can't remember ever seeing them until recently, and drove for many years in Africa where the the main roads have far more potholes, and much worse. Can one of the BR experts tell me whether the cause has anything to do with the modern rigid tyres (45 profile and below) and non-flexible alloy rims passing too much shock to the springs ? The older tyres were so much more compliant and cushioned the spring from the worst of the shock. Read more

Oh, I forgot to include...

One tubular bracket, shaped as though for the attachment for a rubber exhaust hanger piece. The bracket is made from bright steel tube, 11mm o/a, 270mm developed length and having two bright steel welds at one end that have obviously been attached to an unsuitable metal body member. Or, the base metal has not been cleaned.

That would have made a mess of somebody's car. The road verge hasn't been swept for a least a year that I know.
