mercyme

Hi, Had maf sensor replaced and air filter 4000 miles ago. Ever since, have had film of black smoke causing traffic to back off.
Nothing at all wrong with performance of car, mpg very good, no unusual noises, slightly smokier if kickdown is used for quick acceleration.(2 or 3 seconds)
Fine when not moving. Any words of wisdom, please. Read more

Bugatti for sale. One year old. Less than 700 miles and just had its first annual service. Huge saving on new!

Anyone want to chip in for it???

Assuming this is a British car, do you think this has been someone who has suffered credit crunch? What would otherwise be logic of buying in 2008, doing very little mileage, paying for its annual service and then seeling at a discount?

Would it be easy to do more than 621 miles in one of these in Britain? Surely if you bought one of these you would have at least taken it on a right good run, say a London to Edinburgh and back?

Wonder if there are any owners who actually use it as their day to day transport? Read more

There's one owned about seven miles from where I live which is out and about on a daily basis - the younger offspring and I have assumed, at the very least, it is used for going to and from the owner's place of work.

Are you saying a Ford Ka has 'W'rated tyres ?????....that's a 150 mph+ rated tyre....or is the thread title wrong?

If the drain plug is jammed then I'd do the same as me, use a ' laser oil extractor' 40 quid from Screwfix.

What has it come to when you can be put through all this because you may have had a fake MOT cert ? Could they not have simply seized the cert and sent it for examination, following up with a summons if that had been the case.

Even if it had been a fake, is it really such an horrendous crime ? Read more

Check your MOT cert? ~ I bet some Backroomers have never had a car old enough to need an MOT!

Hi - I'm looking at a rear mount cycle carrier for my ford fiesta 5dr 1.25 zetec, W reg (2000).

I've been looking at the Thule 978 ( www.roofrackshop.co.uk/Car-Products/Bike-Racks-and...x)

Some sites say you can't use a rear mount cycle carrier if you have spoiler. Does anyone know what cycle carriers I should be looking at?

Many thanks

I would suggest your thule would be ok so long as the clips go over the spoiler at the top of the tailgate and actually grip the metal
if they dont then nothing would be suitable as this is where most forces are to throw everything off
is there a dealer that can confirm this is suitable near you? rather than an internet site?

Having just been made redundant, I am taking off to the US for the Chicago Blues Festival. Departure date is 11 June, Blues Festival ends on 15th, I have a pass from Mrs S to stay for a bit so have decided to take a trip down and back up again.

Having looked at maps on Google, I've come across a load of places names I know mostly from songs which I have formed into something of a route. I also would like to see the Deep South. However, exactly what there might be to see at any of them, or whether I'm missing something altogether more spectacular I have no idea.

I will be roughing it a bit as I really shouldn't be spending too much on this, without a job and all. I'm thinking of buying a cheap tent so I can camp in some of the National Parks, or using low spec budget hotels. I'm considering whether I should have the convertible or the compact(half the cost!). And I'm open to ideas or comments about places to see/miss. Here's the list I have so far:

Illinois Chicago

Missouri

Kansas Kansas City
Smoky Hills
Salina
Dodge City
Wichita

Oklahoma Oklahoma City
Tulsa

Arkansas Hot Springs?
Little Rock

Mississippi
Hattiesburg
Tupelo
Jackson

Alabama Mobile
Birmingham

Georgia

Tennessee Chattanooga
Great Smoky Mts
Nashville
Memphis

Kentucky Lexington

Indiana Indianapolis

Ohio

Illinois Chicago

Already had the Mustang earlier this year when coming back from Key West to Orlando. It was a shared hire so costs were kept down. And it was great.

This time I'm on my own therefore bearing all of the costs. I've found some great deals, and am staying in everything from Holiday Inns to a "primitive" camp site for a weekend festival. Just booked a log cabin with outside hot tub in the Great Smokey Mountains (which is only a happy coincidence) for a couple of nights.

This is going to be a memorable one!!

flunky

A couple of incidents in the last couple of days.

While crossing the road at a fairly complex junction yesterday (three separate sets of lights, four streams of traffic), I observed a young man, who crossed the first part of the junction (two lanes of traffic from the right) successfully while texting and listening on his phone. He then continued to cross - but the traffic from the left was pulling off. He paid no attention, continuing at a normal walking pace, resulting in a car passing very close to him, amidst beeping horns.

I put this down to distraction by the phone - in that situation any sensible pedestrian would either have waited for the lights to change again, or on seeing the oncoming traffic, run.

But perhaps I was mistaken - while out walking today, I saw a young man of chavvish appearance (with three companions of similar age and countenance), dart into the town centre traffic (30mph) cross the road in the face of traffic, causing disruption and a loud beeping. He then dallied back across the road , again oblivious as to traffic and causing a driver to slam on his brakes (the man walked in front of his car) - to which he responded by pressing his body against the car and bringing his fist down as if to smash the window (which he did not actually do).

He did not appear to be drunk (not really the time of day for it), and his companions seemed utterly indifferent to his behaviour.

Now I realise that this behaviour was a symptom of his total contempt for everyone but himself, but is it getting more common?

I assume the perpetrators know that drivers will make an effort to stop - knowing that the police would come down like a ton of bricks on decent people committing a single malfeasance whereas the police are entirely inured to the behaviour of the underclass, who will spend their adult lives demonstrating their contempt for society.

(PS. In certain circumstances 'assertiveness' with traffic is normal, such as in Central London - a large group of pedestrians can stop a stream of traffic - but jumping out in front of cars is not really that. BTW, this occurred in low-crime Surrey rather than an inner-city ghetto.) Read more

She'd only waited on green man and set off on the red one...........no wonder they get run over !
