i have a 260 dual fuel ford transit van with a leaky sump. I have been told that I will have to replace the enitre sump and not just the leaking sump tray due to the fact that the model is a little odd/old. But as 260 transit van does not seem either to me, and I wonder if I am being taken for a ride here... Read more
my 2002 tdci mondeo auto recently split a turbo hose, lost some power, but main clue was a loud whooshing noise under acceleration, when replaced it just blows the new one off, clips are really tight, any idea why there is what seems to be excess pressure in the system? Car has done appr 85000 miles. Read more
Please can anyone help?
I am trying to register an L200 in the UK that was originally registered and used in Southern Ireland.
It?s described on the registration certificate as an L200 CREW CAB 4DR. It?s a 2.5 diesel and was first registered in February 2002.
The chassis number, I am told, shows that it is not a ?grey import?.
DVLA want evidence of ?Type Approval?.
Mitsubishi in Ireland can supply me with Type Approval numbers for Emissions, Brakes and Noise, but not one number for the whole vehicle.
After a lot of back and forth the local DVLA office are now saying I need to take it for an SVA test and, because it was not me who lived and used it in Ireland, some curt woman at VOSA says it has to have an SVA [enhanced] at the cost of £190.
Am I the only person who thinks that?s ridiculous?? It has just passed an MOT test which shows it is road legal for here.
Does anyone have any experience of this? Does anyone have that magic ?Type Approval? number? Do I have to just give in to bureaucracy gone mad?

Sorry - in my moment of 'Oh hell - wish I'd never started' I forgot to say thank you for the replies. Thank you.
This has certainly been a learning curve for me and I think I will have to keep going now as I have already spent money on it. Hopefully it will be worth it in the end and I wasn't intending to rally in it although I very much doubt the previous owner kept to 56mph!
Any other hints, tips or gems of wisdom will be gratefully received.
As the title says i have noticed the rear brake lights (all 3) are not working, all other light are ok. According to the manual they appears to be no fuses for the rear brake lights
I have had a look at the bulbs on the nearside they look fine- surely not all 3 would not go at the same time would they
Can anyone point me in the right direction

It turned out to be the brake light switch, for some reason the plunger at the end of the switch was jammed in and would not move out therefore the light was always in the off position.
I would like to hire a Ford Kuga for a week in May this year.
2 reasons - firstly I need a larger vehicle for my UK holiday and secondly I am considering a Ford Kuga as a company car and I thought hiring 1 for a week woud be a good way of finding out if it really is the right choice for me.
Question - does anyone know a company in the UK where I can hire a Kuga from? Most car hire firms I've looked at seem to offer a type of vehicle (e.g. compact, luxury etc) rather than a specific make and model.
Anyone know? I though Ford used to have a car hire business but it seems I was mistaken or it no longer does. Read more
A lot of companies will allow you to hire a specific car rather than a category, check out their websites or give them a bell and ask them, it may cost slightly more that way though.
i was in my local petrol station today for a fill up and decided to get some silicone spray (as you do this time of year) and next to the product was this item........ any thoughts?

I love the fact it's Australian. I can picture the marketing team sitting round a table discussing what they're going to call their new product.............
Week after next I'm on a business trip to Scotland. Now, some of you will know that I am a Scot but have been ex-pat for many years. Also, when you live in a place you don't tend to pay to sleep there !!
Anyway, thing is, I normally just use Travelodges and so on because they are relatively cheap and convenient and are usually clean. I am self-employed so cost is relevant but I was just interested to know if anyone would like to make any suggestions re the overnights. I shall be alone so four posters etc are not high on the list of requirements.
I do use Expedia and Late Rooms.com sometimes but I am more interested in personal recommendations.
So...here's my trip
Monday - drive up to central Scotland, finish day in Auchterarder.
Tuesday - Start day in Helensburgh, finish in Linlithgow.
Wednesday - Start day in Aberdeen, finish in Glasgow.
Thursday - Start day in Hawick and then drive home to Cheshire.

Well, if you are going for luxury, try the Roxburghe just off the A68 !!

:-) Well spotted Manatee. HJ and jbif make the news.

I'll lock this now as it was debated before. Will merge it later.
First post, be kind to me.
I am looking at buying a second hand C4, possibly 55/56 plate and am wondering what happens to the prices when the new 09 plate comes in. Is it best too wait for a few weeks or will it make no difference?
I have been to a dealer and they refused to give me anything of the price of the vehicle on the forecourt. He did offer me a couple of litres of petrol lol. It was very well priced to be honest. I did walk away though.

I would buy one when it was car-shaped and not looking like a robot ;)
The central locking system has stopped working when the driver's or passenger's door is locked with the key. The symptons seem rather intermittent in that sometimes when the driver's door is locked the pump in the boot whirrs for about a minute but has no effect on the other door or tailgate locks. Ususally, however, the petrol filler door locks. Similarly, when I press down the passenger's door knob the pumps whirrs but again no other doors lock.
I've opened up the driver's door and all (i.e. wiring and pipe) looks OK but haven't removed the lock as yet.
I've also opened up the pump and it looks clean and dry. I've also removed the yellow end cap and have noticed that the valve (which I think is supposed to detect a vacuum and stops the pump) sometimes flaps from side to side when activated as above. Occasionally locking the driver's door will OPEN the adjacent rear door - very strange.
I have a feeling that these problems only started after the icy weather when I had to enter through the passenger's door.
Is it possibly a problem with the door micro switches? Is it possible to test the system by disconnecting the pipe from the pump and sucking or blowing?? How can I be sure the pump is functioning correctly?
I would appreciate any suggestions as to how I can diagnose the problem before I start to strip each door and attempt to trace the vacuum tubing or replace any parts.
Thanks in advance. Read more

Car is now with my local garage and they are investigating! Have spoken to a few people and none have seen this problem before, thanks for your ideas, hopefully it will get resolved this week.
