Just been along the M3 southbound and came upon average speed cameras on both sides of the carriageway between Js3-4.
Can anyone confirm if these cameras are "live", as there are no signs stating that there is a variable speed limit in operation for this section.
Or are they left over from the roadworks that finished there last year? Read more
The 50 limit around J2 Southbound is staying, but it's been implemented together with a change in road layout, where the two lane stretch under the M25 filters into one lane (ultimately lane 2), and lane 1 is allocated to the traffic joining from the M25.
It really helps the traffic flow from the M25, at the expense of a Southbound queue on the M3 approaching junction 2 in rush hour as the motorway ultimately goes from three lanes to just one. (one becomes the slip road off onto the M25, and one now disappears). It's fair to say the M3 from J2-J1 is pretty quiet though, even in rush hour, but a 5-10 minute queue here isn't uncommon now.
In fairness, a 50 mph limit on the M3 would make precious little difference to me, as I struggle to get to 50 most of the time I travel on it. It's now that bad!
Cheers

im getting poor mpg. would cleaning or even changing all the fuel injectors inprove it ?? Read more
Fumes in the cabin is not normal! For starters lift up the back seat cushion andd check for splits / loose connections around the fuel pump, accessed through the small circular panel under the seat. FWIW my 156K '99 2 litre - not sri - does 33 mpg around town and 43-44 on a run, mind you I do drive like a granny.
Bought the car, 54 reg 140 tdi( now with 45K) last Jan topped up the coolant for the first time in December in response to the warning light and again last week now the lights on again 400miles later.
Doen't look good but car going fine, no signs of contamination( oil or water ) temp guage ok, no white exhaust smoke.
Is there a test that will confirm for certain HG failure? Anyone know repair cost?
Any help very welcome.

Hiya
Are you sure its not leaking? Does the tank cap seal properly?
When its hot (aka after you get to work) - leave it running and look under it for leaks/steam....
Check under the bonnet with it running too. (will be hot!!)

hi room, i noticed the other day as the misses stopped at the top of the road that the high brake light didnt come on as she stopped, the other 2 brake lights were fine, is this an issue with the mot or are 2 brake lights sufficient, or could the high brake light have been disconnected on purpose by the prev owner ( is it a done thing?) thanks Read more
As NC says, as long as one of the LEDs work in a high level brake light, then it should pass.
www.motuk.co.uk/manual_130.htm
High level stop lamps:-
These are lamps usually fitted in the rear window or boot spoiler of a vehicle and may consist of a number of light sources .
The lamp is one unit, so as long as at least one of the light sources illuminates when the brake pedal is pressed the lamp is deemed to be working.
Hello there,
I was wondering if anybody could be kind enough to let me know the Torque/Angle specified for the crank pulley bolt for my Picasso 2.0 HDi.
It's all back together after a cambelt change, but I can't find my book with the figures in!
Thanks in advance,
Rich

>>i personally can't see the difference between doing it at 67 degrees in one go
Not wise.
Angle tightening methods tend to take the bolt into its plastic region - i.e., beyond yield. Also, after initial tightening, the joint tends to relax over a minute or two, as any asperities plastically deform, and yield.
So, you do the initial tightening, and then after a short while, top up with the 5 degrees to account for the joint relaxation, which won't happen again once the joint is settled.
If you do 67 in one go, you'll overstress the bolt, and the joint will relax further than the inital setting.
Hello,
I have recently past me test and am looking to buy my first car! Any opinions on what I should go for? I need low insurance but I want it to look good!
Any opinions would be great. Read more
"However 18-21 year old may not have any choice but to go with a group 1 or 2 car. "
Groups 1 and 2 are the old system with groups from 1-20. Insurers now rate cars across more "groups" but that is not the main risk factor. You could drive a "group 1" car and cause an accident that results in millions being paid out.
But you're right Rattle. But there are recent cars in these insurance groups but they will cost. And the insurance is on top. They are basically pricing most of the young off the road. Or trying to.
Hi chaps, having spent ages looking for a new / low mileage used small car I liked the Corsa until reading all the grief on here about snapping camshafts, why would anyone buy one with these sort of problems ? is it all models / engines ? I'll have to think again or spend £500 getting my Rover 75 back on the road (when it's only worth £350 trade) - any comments welcome. Thanks Roger Read more
What's your Rover worth when it's fixed?
More than £350, I'll bet.
They are basically sound cars and if you've got a decent garage on the job, I'd say it's well worth spending some money on it.
As Rattle said, I know which car I'd rather drive home in.
I have noticed a significant increase in the number of drivers being stopped by the police. What are they checking on , and is it like me in adult education, that they are chasing targets. Now checking lights and indicators before every trip.
Added a question mark to the title, as it is a question rather than a statement. smokie Read more
The targets that are being mentioned in motoring terms are not the arrestable offences type but the fixed penalty type.
Disgruntled and innocent motorist is all ready to fight it through the courts until their solicitor tells him what it is going to cost, especially if they loose so its a case of pay up and fume.
You know you didn't go through that light on red but who will the magistrate believe - you are the two uniformed officers next to you ?
This is my first post so please bear with me if this has been covered somewhere else. I have read through the FAQs which answered most of my questions but I need some advice.
Long story short, i was rear ended at a roundabout nearly 2 weeks ago. The 3rd party has admitted liability and i have been supplied with courtesy car as my car has been written off.
Now the 3rd party insurers rang yesterday and made an offer of £600 which i found unacceptable so have taken the steps to try and get this increased. In the meantime they have sent me a letter saying that within 72 hours of the engineers visit which was on Tuesday I can expect to have my car removed by their "salvage agents" and i should post them my V%, MOT certificate, Service history etc. Surely if i do send them these documents then they will be the legal owners of my vehicle and I wouldn't have a leg to stand on?
I would have thought that the car would not be collected until a settlement figure had been agreed, are they just trying to pull a fast one?
Many Thanks and again sorry if this has been asked before.

> They offer £xx - you negotiate it up to £yy
That's fine, but when you have agreed the car's 'value' with the ins.co., they are entitled to recover any value they can from the wreck, unless you agree differently with them that you prefer to have it repaired yourself. This would normally be when the co.'s repair cost would exceed the car's market value, while yours might not - or you like the car enough to keep it.

it's OK I've sorted it. I prised off the cover of the pull-handle and found 2 screws. I then just pulled off the panel.
