Been having a problem lately with friends "T" reg Saxo, - both front seats soaked one night after heavy rain, so sealed around front and rear screens and under roof mounted ariel with silicone sealant. After a couple of days i tested with judicious use of power-washer and all seems ok, got a phone-call this morning, seats soaked again, interior light full of water!. Car has only been stood overnight in the drive, and hasn't got a sunroof, so am baffled now! anybody any ideas please?

Thanks all,
Ariel it was! my first attempt was a complete failure ;-)

did job properly second time and even replaced her interior light bulb which apparently had blown about 2 months earlier, probably due to operating under water, anyway seats now dry, so is her backside! so mega-brownie points (and chrimbo-pressie! ) in my direction is forthcoming.

cheers

If you just remove the the whole unit with the two bolts you do not have to disturb the Hex bolts, remember plenty of anti squeal paste when fitting the new ones.

In the past couple of years have you or a friend been reported for speeding on the A27 at Fareham?.

If so are you aware of this.

Further one should follow this case.

You know what the most interesting thing is about the 'thisishampshire.net' forum? It's the way it appears to be unmoderated thus allowing the sory of language and personal attacks that belong in a drunken argument. For those that think this site should allow swearing and slacker moderation just read that forum and see if you'd be active here with that sort of 'discussion.'
ps I have been known to utter the odd sweary word but it just seems so much more inappropriate in print.

I just had my Jag xype 3 litre (lpg) serviced at my usual dealer, who had recently been taken over by a new owner.

I noticed that instead of the usual 0w40 they had used 5w30 I know his is what jaguar had recomended in the begining but can i expect any difference in performance because of the 5w30?

I just feel a bit more reassured with 0w40 or am I being paranoid?

Thought you may wish to know of observations I have made concerning the next service due indicator.

Firstly, turn on ignition, wait for instrument display to settle down, press and hold down trip meter reset and distance to next service figure (in 100's) will be displayed in place of mileage. Following this the days to next service is shown.

When my vehicle indicated next service due some 750 miles sooner than expected I contacted SEAT Customer Services to seek an answer to why. They can only state that there are no known issues with the next service due indicator but offer no explanation other than that the vehicle technician had not done their job properly. No response when I point out that a technician may rarely slip up once but not four times!!!!!!!

This leaves me in a position of wondering if other owners have observed similar characteristics.

Could this be common to all VAG models based upon the '5' platform?

Anyone care to contribute?

Thanks

Can anyone give me some advice on the easiest (and quickest!!) way to fit a replacement screen wash bottle to a 1998 Pug 306 petrol.

Cheers, thought the easiest way would be to remove wheel and partialy the arch lining.

My insurance policy (with a very large UK insurer) expired a few days ago, and a month or so ago they sent me the renewal offer with a slightly reduced price. I didn't really have time to go around looking for new quotes so happily went along with it - the letter said that unless I asked otherwise they would automatically renew the policy for me upon expiry. I thought nothing more of it.

The expiry date was the 2nd (Sunday). I phoned them yesterday (3rd) to add a temporary driver for the day. The conversation went like this, after I had given my policy number:

Them: "Sir, your policy expired yesterday"
Me: "Isn't it supposed to automatically renew?"
Them: "Yes"
Me: "Well....did it?"
Them: "No"
Me: "Why not!"
Them: "Don't know. It's set to automatically renew on our system but it hasn't worked. Maybe the computer's broken"
Me: "So you mean I've been driving around all day with no insurance"
Them: "Yes, I think so"
Them: "We'll just get it renewed for you now sir"

!!

Two points come to mind...

What luck I had to call them to add a driver. I'm not the kind of person who would have noticed not getting a new certificate in the post; I haven't even opened the post from last week yet! It could easily have been weeks before I realised.

What would have happened if I was pulled over that morning?

Bromptonaut

I would certainly beg to differ on the last comment from Bromptonaut

I didn't mean to suggest there was nowt to worry about - just that I suspected a small cock up rather than a major one.

My own insurers, current and previous, have sent out the certificate with renewal paperwork. I think Liv Vic asked for it's return when I failed to renew.
Demon

Just thought I'd put this one to the room and would appreciate some wild and maybe some not so wild speculation about the following: On the way to work this morning I suddenly noticed the car (2000 MkII Mondeo 1.8 petrol) wasn't responding properly whilst ambling along at 50. Momentum was enough to get me approx 1/4 mile into a layby where I switched the engine off.
Now on Sunday whilst I was pulling off at traffic lights on a steep hill whilst carrying 50-odd stone worth of people (thanks to a rather large brother in law) what I believed to be a slipping of the clutch occurred (revs buts no pull, put it out of gear then back in and was fine) which may be irrelevant but thought I'd mention anyway.
Anyway, called AA out, said I thought it may be clutch, so he started it up with it in gear and it just stalled. On inspection under the bonnet he told me that the timing belt tension was low (belt hadn't snapped) and that this was what caused me to conk out. My instant thought was that I've now got a knackered engine although Mr. AA didn't seem to think it would be quite so severe. Won't get a diagnosis from my mechanic until Thursday so am sitting here until then wondering whether one week from now I'll have my beloved Mondy back, or will be in the market for a £150 banger!
A big lesson in 'not getting around' to things. AA upgrade to get me all the way home has already set me back early £90. As per usual I was just weeks from getting this done (car's done 103k) and bet if it hadn't dragged 50-odd stone of people 60 miles on the weekend it would've held out. I will gladly listen to anybody's views and experiences on this! Read more

Forgive my ignorance, chaps, but I've never heard the terms 'black top and silver top' used in reference to Ford engines. Would someone kindly enlighten me, please, and does this apply to 2L as well as 1.8? Does it refer to the rocker box cover?

Many thanks Waino
