Hi,im going to trade in my honda accord 1.8(2001)57k which has 2 small trolley dents on the doors . Would it be better to get it repaired regarding trade in value . Also do car supermarkets expect you to haggle on a deal. Thanks Read more

Thanks Bairn. Not been quoted on anything yet but i should think it would cost about £150 to be smart repaired,so it probably wont make much difference trade in,good idea though on buying near the end of the month.I will wait till then and go for a bit of haggle as well. Thanks

Buying a Peugeot 207 for £7,995 (2006 model with 11k miles on the clock). Is this a good deal? Have Peugeot finally got a reliable, good quality vehicle on their hands? Read more

If you cast your eyes to the right you will see that due to the new system of classification when you post (drop down menus) that any car that fits the classification will be displayed for you under "Honest John's Road Tests".

Whole point of the thing really.

A thought. Can a brake servo filling up with brake / clutch hydraulic fluid through a failed seal draw it into the engine to burn it as white smoke?

I keep my car at my university in the halls of residence car park. There has been a green peugeot parked next to my car for the past few days and i have just noticed the passenger side of my car is VERY damaged. There is even the remnants of green paint - the same colour as the other car - on my car. Is there any action, legal or otherwise, that i can take to get the other party to cover the costs of repairing the damage they have done?? I feel physically sick that another person could do this. blondiebombshell,

I know it won't help regarding your current damage but my past experiences (40-odd years worth) might help for the future.

When I had dark coloured cars (dark green and dark navy) they suffered a disproportionate amount of carpark damage. I made what I considered to be the connection and started buying highly visible bright coloured cars ~ initially yellow (when that colour was available) and then mainly bright red ever since. Lo and behold, no more carpark damage. What colour is yours?

I'm also very selective about where I park in a carpark. I won't park next to any car which (a) has existing bodywork damage or looks uncared for (b) isn't reasonably in the centre of the slot (c) has been left with the front wheels turned at a significant angle, or (d) has wide doors, particularly if they are high up off the ground and have outwardly turned lower edges. I won't park directly between 2 cars if the space is significantly reduced by either or both of those 2 cars. I won't park directly next to another car unless it is absolutely necessary to do so ~ I look for slots which have a vacant slot both sides.

I try to park (a) where I can go in forwards and have a wall or hedge in front ~ the rear of a car is more able to accept damage than the front, and (b) where at least one side of the car is protected by a wall or hedge.

Following having had one car severely (and I mean severely) damaged when it was parked on the road, I will no longer park on the road at all.

I learned by experience ~ no doubt you will also.

i wonder how many people are driving around in cars that have been misfuelled
and sold on and are none the wiser ?

The AA estimated there are 120,000 instances of misfuelling per year, so probably many thousands. I wonder what %age of the 120k are started and driven; and what %age are common rail?

They tried to launch a campaign about it in 2004.

Not worth the hassle then?
I like the look of other radios also.

Guess i'll just ring dealer and find out how much they charge to put in the MP3 connector that doesn't come with the standard radio(last time i checked it didnt). might be wrong?

Topic,

Me?, Having retired, I tend to loll on my back on the brown leather sofa at home, posting using a Compaq F500 laptop.
I`m late 50`s, 6`2" and 11stone, threw 100 ties out when I retired and have reverted to wearing blue jeans.
I`m interested in Military history and just got back from a trip to see the Normandy beaches and the Bayeur tapestry.

The Punto multijet van did this trip, its very low profile, which is my preference in vehicles.

Wife changed her car this morning and as she likes to support our local shops she uses a good old fashioned insurance broker that works from a good old fashioned shop with glass at the front,im sure some older members on this site will remember these type emporiums before the coming of shopping malls closed outdoor markets and fast food burger shops, anyway i drift......
ive just checked on the motor insurance bureau online facilitation and her new car is not shown as insured, this may mean that until the emporium opens 10.00am sharp monday morning she stands getting pulled by the fuzzies
Her old car that i sold also this morning is as i speak insured by a local blue rinse lady via the internet .

Hi , i own a 530 sport e39 shape, and my on board computer shows a best figure of 17 mpg, usually its round about 16mpg,
although the average speed on the obc also is usually around the 13/16 mph range as well,
these figures are through normal urban driving conditions,
to fellow 530 owners are these normal figures ,
thanks.

another comparison...Jag S type 3.0 auto

OBC figures..v.heavy stop/start peak time traffic with very little free flow............= 15.5mpg
..similar roads, off peak, slightly longer roads i.e. less back doubles..= 18.5mpg
.. country A roads, not going mad, but nipping along........................= 25mpg
.. good long run on m/way at good o/s lane speeds inc kick down.....= 26.5 mpg
..18 miles of very careful 70 on m/way inc 5 miles at 50 in r/works..= 34.4mpg

as said above, the figs are approximate as it's not brim to brim, although some years back i compared the two (OBC and brimming it) and although different, it wasn't far out

Mrs MLC has had a 54 reg Hyundai Getz for the last six months. No problems and she quite likes it. However, I just find it a bit dull.

Saw an 06 plate Grand Punto for sale at a dealer for £5000. Looks nice and a bit more 'grown up' than the Hyundai. Not seen many used ones around and finding it hard to judge used values. I have my doubts on what I'd get offered for the Getz though. Read more

I'd bet that a lot of the 6 month to year old ones are ex fleet/rental market... rather like my "2B" Punto active (end of previous shape) a year old when I got it.

A year on, and I don't regret buying it - despite the odd power steering and the bit of trim which seems impossible to fasten on - it's just worked, and been economical on fuel too.

Main dealer servicing, if done to the book, is more expensive than you'd expect from the comments on here though:
2 year service (new plugs and cam cover off to check clearances in addition to a (scheduled) trip on the diagnostics machine) came in at nearly 250 UKP. (2 1/2 hours plus bits).
No hydraulic tappets on the 1242 petrol, just shims.

I'd argue anyone with an 80 UKP service is getting oil and filter only, and I have a feeling that some of the spiked ECU's died because of excessive gap in worn plugs.

You pay your money and take your choice. Cheap car to buy though.
