I have replaced my heater control valve a month ago as it the heating wasn't working now it only blows hot air and the HCV only gets 12v supply regardless of heat settings. I have managed to get hold of the wooden effect panal (as my car is the Ghia) for the dashboard.
Is this a DIY job for one just to put up with? Its not a major problem but Ihave the spare part so if its easy I may as well do it.
Edit its the MK4 btw with an electronicaly controlled heater. Read more
The headlining beading (I hope that is how it is called) is coming off on both the passenger side and the driver side. It is much advanced on the driver side. What is the best glue that I should use to stick it back? I tried with some PVC sealant (on the driver side) ? and I have a feeling that I made the problem worse.
Any suggestions most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

However the car is not used everyday and does stand on the driveway for 2
or 3 days at at a time. Could the lack of usage have a bearing?
No, not at all. This is quite common - perhaps not put on quite right at the factory. Don't worry about it, just replace.

It can't be that thankless! 12 weeks off a year, a full pension after about 20 years service, vast expenses and hundreds of applicants for every constituency long list. Seems like a very desirable job and if you can't stand a bit of public scrutiny don't join them!
More than a dozen motorists were left stuck in a car park when a car's central locking system malfunctioned and blocked drivers' key fobs.

Seem to remember hearing/reading something about this last year, it was happening regularly to several cars a day on a supermarket carpark, seem to recall it was traced to a nearby phone mast.

I work for a large voluntary organization and our offices have a car-park sufficient for our staff and some visitors-recently,more and more members of the public have been using it-if confronted we get abuse or excuses-"I put money in your collecting boxes" or "I am a Mason and we donate to your charity".They should not be clamped-their cars should be confiscated. Our car-park is clearly marked "Private Property-Authorized Business Use Only".
The G-Wiz electric car was being recalled today after one burst into flames.
Keith Johnston, GoinGreen managing director, said the fire was sparked by a faulty heat-sensitive cut-out switch. "Even though it was a single incident, it was decided as a precautionary measure to launch a recall."

Not many moving part on a G-Whiz - so can you do service them at ohm?
Planning ahead...are there any definitive studies on the cost of holding a car from new to [say] 3 years over years 4-6 for example, including likely maintenance costs?
I'm considering a change and looking at BMW 3 Tourer, C Class [old shape, don't go for the new one], new C5, Legacy, and Focus Estate. But whether to buy new or used increases the options by quite a lot. Probably going for a petrol too, not over 2 litres.
I also assume that a top of the range Focus is probably indistinguishable from a Beemer given my type of driving. Views please! Read more

I'm sure HJ would agree with you, although most onlookers wouldn't. If you don't care, then it doesn't matter!
I'm a s/h man myself, but it's your money. We need people to keep the chain going... :-)

First; check the coolant level. The handbook will show you how.
Hi Guys,
I have a slight issue with regards to my 1995 Pug 306 TD.
Last year I had to repair my engine as the head gasket had failed, so the following was done :
Skimmed Head
New gasket
New Head bolts
New Timing belt
Also stupidly enough I changed the Heater matrix at the same time as it had failed previously.
Recently the engine seems to be using alot of water, I mean in the last 6 weeks I've had to refill the radiator twice with water.
I cant seem to find any leaks anywhere round the engine plus the heater matrix is working fine with no leaks, so I'm abit stumped as to where all this water is going as none of my other cars have ever used this much water in this short time.
Would anyone have an idea as to what could be causing this problem, any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

IME its the bottom of the rad - they leak like sieves! However, I did 20K miles with such a leak, topping up the water daily. They seem to live for ever like this.

A mate did it on his without much difficulty and he's not a mechanic.
